Review Summary

Le Khmer is widely praised as an excellent discovery with hot, delicious food, friendly and accommodating staff, fast service, and generous portions at affordable prices. The menu is celebrated for authentic Cambodian flavors and dishes like Tonkinese soup, beef loc lac, fried chicken, and the Family Platter, with many noting that both takeout and dine-in experiences feel welcoming and well executed. The restaurant is described as a local favorite and a reliable option for gatherings, with strong catering that can customize menus and even create vegan options, delivered on time and with care. While many reviews glow, a few recent visits are noted for not reaching past praise, citing overfried wings, dry rice, and a bland broth as exceptions and a hope that quality returns to its former standard. Overall, Le Khmer stands out for flavor, value, and warmth, making it a go-to spot for casual meals, family dinners, and special events in the area.

I've been to Khmer several times in the past, mostly around the time they first opened, & I remember enjoying it quite a lot. I also recall the owners being very kind, which is why this recent visit was especially disappointing.

I had lunch for two people this time. The Soup Angkor was fine, & the fried spring rolls were also okay. Nothing remarkable, but acceptable.

Unfortunately, the rest of the meal fell short of what I remembered. The chicken wings, which I've enjoyed on previous visits, tasted over-fried & then reheated, leaving them greasy & dry. Most surprising was the rice: although the portion was generous, it was very dry & seemed stale. As someone who cooks rice at home using a simple rice cooker, I found this hard to understand, as good rice is usually very easy to get right. I only managed to eat a few bites.

The Tonkinoise soup was also quite bland. The broth, served separately (for take-out), looked & tasted mostly like water with very little depth or seasoning.
To the owners: this review is not meant to be negative for the sake of it. I truly hope you take it as constructive feedback. I've enjoyed your restaurant in the past & would love to see the quality return to what it once was.

We are from Alberta & was visiting Quebec & came across this lovely, family run business on the outskirts of Montreal. We were missing good Asian food & these Cambodian brothers (& father) did not disappoint! They were kind enough to take our orders so close to closing. The food was vibrant & flavourful, no frills & service was friendly & laid back. Our mom said the spring rolls were the best she ever had! Definitely worth a visit!!
