Review Summary

Restaurant Le Khmer is widely celebrated for its delicious, authentic, and flavourful Cambodian cuisine, offering generous portions and great value. Customers frequently praise the friendly, accommodating staff who provide fast service, making it a beloved local staple for both casual dining and special events like catering. While the majority of diners describe the food as fresh and memorable, with favorites including the beef sandwiches, rice dishes, and various soups, it is generally considered a takeout-focused establishment where the atmosphere is secondary to the quality of the meals. Although a few experiences noted inconsistencies in consistency or facility maintenance, the overwhelming consensus highlights a welcoming family-run environment that serves consistently tasty and well-seasoned dishes.

I've been to Khmer several times in the past, mostly around the time they first opened, & I remember enjoying it quite a lot. I also recall the owners being very kind, which is why this recent visit was especially disappointing.

I had lunch for two people this time. The Soup Angkor was fine, & the fried spring rolls were also okay. Nothing remarkable, but acceptable.

Unfortunately, the rest of the meal fell short of what I remembered. The chicken wings, which I've enjoyed on previous visits, tasted over-fried & then reheated, leaving them greasy & dry. Most surprising was the rice: although the portion was generous, it was very dry & seemed stale. As someone who cooks rice at home using a simple rice cooker, I found this hard to understand, as good rice is usually very easy to get right. I only managed to eat a few bites.

The Tonkinoise soup was also quite bland. The broth, served separately (for take-out), looked & tasted mostly like water with very little depth or seasoning.
To the owners: this review is not meant to be negative for the sake of it. I truly hope you take it as constructive feedback. I've enjoyed your restaurant in the past & would love to see the quality return to what it once was.

We are from Alberta & was visiting Quebec & came across this lovely, family run business on the outskirts of Montreal. We were missing good Asian food & these Cambodian brothers (& father) did not disappoint! They were kind enough to take our orders so close to closing. The food was vibrant & flavourful, no frills & service was friendly & laid back. Our mom said the spring rolls were the best she ever had! Definitely worth a visit!!
