Kamúy offers a warm, inviting atmosphere that highlights Haitian and Creole flavors, with standout items like griot, accras, poulet frit, jerk chicken, conch and djon djon rice, plus comforting sides and pain patate for dessert. Cocktails such as Corossol Colada are praised, and portions are generous, often suitable for sharing. Service is friendly and attentive, with staff who explain dishes and make recommendations, even though a few visits note occasional delays or price considerations. The space, music and decor create a lively yet cozy setting, ideal for a date, friends or a pre show in the theater district. Overall the reviews point to tasty, flavorful food, warm hospitality and a memorable dining experience at Kamúy.
The food was flavorful, comforting, & full of fresh ingredients. It used spices & herbs to create rich, bold tastes, with dishes like rice & beans, fried plantains, & marinated meats. Their meals were warm, homey, & rooted in Creole tradition. Their drinks were also interesting & unique. Will definitely recommend to friends.
Con: difficult to find parking, but is accessible via Metro & bus.
Some of our food was good, some was not great.
Atmosphere is cramped & loud, there were flies flying around inside the restaurant. It's a nice spot & a nice place, just felt like they could improve here. The servers were nice, but they were very slow, they checked on us once to see if we liked the food, but then never came back to bring us more water or to see if we wanted dessert or anything.
We had the Tomato salad, Ceviche, Fried chicken, Jerk Chicken, Griot & Grilled fish as well as 5 cocktails.
The fried chicken was delicious, the Griot was some of the best in Montreal, but the jerk chicken was horribly dry, the chicken was TINY, it felt like I was eating quail.
The Jerk chicken is 25$ on the menu, but after getting home & looking at my receipt, they charged us 32$ per portion (we ordered two portions to share).
The grilled fish was supposed to be 40$, they charged us 45$.
We were also charged 2$ more per drink than what was priced on the menu.
The bill for 4 people ended up over 325$ (before tip) with 5 drinks, a bottle of soda water, 4 appetizers & 3 mains.
For the price, the experience we had was not worth it.

We were there for the jazz fest performance at 7:30, a perfect location & we were happily surprised at the quality of the food, drinks & service as we had never been before. Every dish had its own special taste but the hummus for me was wonderfully different. Service was friendly & accommodating. I would definitely return. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
Food was exceptional as well as the drinks. But I gave 2 stars for the service. Our waiter from Haiti does not know how to read the room. First he approached our table with a joke but it came across like an insult so it set us up poorly to begin with. Then, he only spoke to my boyfriend THE ENTIRE NIGHT. We were joking amongst ourselves that our waiter was in love. There were a group of 4 of us together & the 3 of us gave up at one point & just continued chatting between us since we were obviously not of any interest to our waiter. Not to mention, I'm paying the bill for myself & my partner & leaving the tip, so I'd appreciate some decency? He did not look at me once, he took my boyfriends order first, would randomly shake his hand, talked to him the entire time, ignored all the rest of us, made weird jokes, smelled like cigarettes, recommended things twice after we said we were not interested, & he waited so long to take our order but claimed he was letting us chat while we were wondering why he was taking so long. We would all go back but we'd hope to get a different waiter.
2024: got the accras, tamales, & the jambalaya djeon djeon. Everything was delicious. Creole espresso martini was good but nothing special. 2022: Got the Dombrey sweet potato dumplings with octopus & coconut sauce, & the Daisi des Caraïbes to drink. Both were absolutely perfect. I just really wish they'd put more effort into drink presentation as it was just served in a black cup. Also paper towels to dry your hands in the washroom was literally just a brown roll on a ledge. Considering the price, I feel like those are easy things to improve.
Food was spot on. Very clean non greasy. The pork was on point & the fact I got to have a Canadian dish in Pountine with a Haitian twist was an awesome experience. The drinks were nice & strong something Montreal lacks when it comes to booze. The staff was nothing but nice to my wife & young daughter. Thanks for the memories.
Très bonne cuisine créole avec des portions généreuses. Nous avons commandé 5 plats à partager pour deux personnes & nous voulions par terre. Le seul bémol : les drinks sont chers & petits. Un coup de coeur dans tous les cas!

I had the lobster dish & I was disappointed by the lobster. I found that it lacked flavour especially for a Caribbean inspired dish. The texture was also not the best. But the rice that I paired it with was amazing. The scallops, the sauce & vegetables that it came with were all very delicious. My friends enjoyed our meals but we were not that excited about the drinks. Our appetizers were delicious. I will definitely be coming back, but I would try another dish with the rice.
We arrived at 9:30. The DJ was great, but we wanted a slow dinner with lots of conversation following the OSM's Virée Classique. The music was way too loud for conversation. So we still love Kamuy, but won't come for a late night dinner again. Maybe drinks, instead.
Chef Paul Toussaint continues to knock it out of the park with his flavorful Caribbean fare. Everything was wonderful, from the appetizers to the drinks. I lived the ribs & my husband really enjoyed his jambalaya.
