Grinder restaurant is located on Notre-Dame street, in the heart of Griffintown. Indeed, this neighborhood located in the southwest of Montreal is dynamic and promising; residential and commercial projects are already underway.
The original decor screams Zébulon Perron (Furco, Buvette à Simone, Philémon). He created a comfortable and warm restaurant, kitchen and raw bar. Grinder characterizes itself by vintage and modern elements such as glass and metal.
On the menu, raw & cooked items: tartares, tatakis, ceviches, carpaccios, etc. Also on the menu, steaks and grilled or braised pieces of meats, all to be shared. Grinder also offers a variety of fish and seafood, served cooked or raw as well. More than a simple steakhouse, all food lovers will find something to their liking among their selection of fresh products.
A 100% of their wine list consists of privately imported wines, always changing with the seasons, and of course focusing on wines produced while respecting nature.
Reviews consistently praise Grinder for high quality steaks, seafood, and flavorful dishes, with many mentions of memorable experiences, generous portions, and a chic, energetic atmosphere that suits celebrations; however, service quality varies, occasional delays or forgetfulness occur, some dishes and sides receive mixed feedback, and the noise level or crowding can be a drawback during busy times.
This is our second time & Grinder in Montreal absolutely exceeded expectations. We started with the burrata paired with aubergine cream-perfectly balanced with apple vinegar & chili flakes-& a bluefin tuna tartare that was incredibly fresh with a standout marinanation & sauce.
For mains, everything hit. The 9 oz bavette was cooked beautifully & full of flavor, the Grinder burger was tender & juicy, & the octopus with crispy potatoes was honestly out of this world. Even the sides were memorable-the baby sprouts were insanely good, & the creamy bacon potatoes were just as impressive.
For dessert, I tried pudding chômeur for the first time, & it was unforgettable. The rich buttery texture, combined with the sweet syrup & vanilla ice cream, made it one of the best desserts I've ever had.
The atmosphere really ties it all together: friendly & attentive service, great music, & one of the best IPA beers I've had in Montreal.
At around $80 CAD per person, it's absolutely worth it. I'll be coming back every time I'm in Montreal.
The tomahawk steak iwas okay but when it comes to the seafood, the really lacked flavors. We took the surf & turf for 3 people & the seafood was... meh.. Good vibes & service was good overall, but i was disappointed with the quality & taste of the seafood, even the butter sauce had no taste..
We had a reservation at 10:00 AM. When we arrived, we were seated right away, but we had to wait quite a while for the waitress assigned to our table to bring us menus-which she never did. We ended up having to ask another server.
To be honest, my experience was horrible from start to finish. After some time, the waitress finally came to take our order. She brought out the onion soup appetizer, & my boyfriend decided to add another appetizer of six shrimp.
It was also very cold where we were seated. I asked the waitress if she could close the front door, & she said yes-but she never did. We then asked to change tables, which she agreed to, & we were moved.
After that, we waited about 45 minutes (or more) for the shrimp. During that time, our waitress never came back to check on us. We had to ask another server for help, who then called her over. She came briefly, when to the kitchen.. come back said nothing, & then went straight to the bar & didn't return.
About 15 minutes later, a server brought a plate to our old table, where new guests were now seated, & then left. We realized it was likely our order. We had to call another waitress again because ours never came back. Eventually, they took the plate back to the kitchen & returned a couple of minutes later with shrimp they claimed were'new.' However, the shrimp were cold, dry, & clearly not fresh. When we pointed this out, the waitress got upset, walked away, & said we wouldn't be charged.
We then waited another 20 minutes for our main dishes. When the food finally arrived, it was disappointing-everything was dry & not fresh.
The service was extremely poor, & even when we expressed our concerns, no one seemed to care. The waitress later brought the bill with an attitude, which was surprising considering she was mostly absent & spent most of her time at the bar.
Overall, this was a very frustrating experience. Poor service, long wait times, lack of attention, & low-quality food. Definitely not worth it.
Went with a large group last weekend, Jacob was our server & did a great job with helping us celebrate our friend's birthday. It was a busy night but the flow of the night was perfect, shared the surf & turf platter. Food was really tasty, scallops were a tad small but made up for it in flavour. Steak was super tender & perfectly cooked. Would go back.
My second time here, I regret not writing a review the first time. Anyways, Sadya, you were amazing with the service, thank you for making our second visit a memorable one.
The food is top notch & the wine selection is excellent.
Will look forward to my next visit here when I'm back in Montreal.
I had the calamari & the halibut. Both were delicious. Each dish was cooked to perfection & paired with rich, flavorful sauces.
This was my second time at Grinder in the same week.
What really makes the experience worth coming back for is the attentive service. I had Alejandro both times, & he delivers a level of service that's rare to find.
Service is an art form, & they truly get it at Grinder.
