Review Summary

Bar Vivar is described in reviews as a small, cozy tapas spot in Montreal with a warm, unpretentious vibe. The food draws praise for high quality ingredients, creative twists on Spanish classics, and dishes that feel both adventurous and deeply satisfying, with standouts like tortilla and croquetas frequently mentioned. The menu changes often, keeping the experience fresh, and while some guests note that portions can be small and prices higher, the overall taste and presentation are repeatedly described as outstanding. Wine and vermouth options are highlighted, and the service is repeatedly described as attentive, knowledgeable, and welcoming, contributing to a sense of being at home rather than in a typical dining room. Occasional criticisms include readability of the chalkboard menu and rare timing issues during service, but many reviews emphasize that the staff and kitchen pull off an immersive, memorable night. The venue is also praised for being a hidden gem and a great setting for dates, gatherings, and even private events. Overall, Bar Vivar comes across as a standout destination for anyone seeking inventive tapas, a thoughtful wine list, and hospitality that makes guests want to return.

Elevated take on the classic tapas you would fine in a Spanish bar mix with original dishes. They have good vermouth & the staff is friendly. A bit on the pricer side but a fun vibe. I'm not crazy about some of their weird'wooden throne chairs', I guess that's the only negative I could come up with.

This place is an absolute gem, surprisingly tucked away in plain sight! They serve an amazing variety of Spanish inspired small plates. We opted to sit at the bar & had delightful conversations with chefs Georges & Andreas, who treated us to an impressive spread of dishes that were nothing short of exceptional. The front-of-house manager, Patrick, was equally engaging, & his wine pairings were perfect. From now on, this will be our go-to spot every time we visit Montreal!

The tortilla de patatas is absolutely amazing & so is the jamón plate. The drinks & seasonal dishes are hit or miss, I want to love & support this place so much but it's not totally on point unfortunately.

What a great surprise! The restaurant has a great cozy ambiance & the service is incredible. The dishes were phenomenal, a real work of art! I highly recommend the octopus, it was superb, really soft & flavorful. The dishes are not huge if you are really hungry you might wanna order two. Will definitely be coming back here!
