Pub McCarold is described in reviews as a lively Irish pub with strong food and drinks, where the atmosphere and friendly service are consistently praised. The kitchen earns praise for hearty, well presented fare, from classic pub dishes to inventive burgers and regional favorites like poutine, with some calls that certain poutines are among Montreal's best. The beer selection is solid, featuring international classics and local options, though a few note it could be more extensive. The vibe is welcoming and convivial, often busy in the evenings, with outdoor seating in warmer weather and a layout that accommodates groups. Service is generally attentive and professional, though a few visits mention slower times or occasional missteps that can dampen the experience. Overall, Pub McCarold appears as a dependable go-to in the area for good food, good beer, and a lively pub atmosphere.
My friends & myself were once part of the furniture at McCarold's. Our long evenings were then filled with long forgotten & unproven manly-man tales of conquests & fortunes. For the sake of a healthier liver & as family duties were calling upon, I had to abandon ship & ancre my safety boat in a distant suburb. I still go back every now & then, so to remember the good times & the better times. Set almost at the foot of Mount-Royal in the busy, eclectic & diversified district of Côtes-des-neiges, in Frenglish Montreal, the venue offers plenty of seats, with several rooms & 2 terrasses. The selection of beers & liquors is one of the best in Montréal. The kitchen offers a pretty good selection of meals based on pubs' culture. For example the ever Oh so popular Ballymore burger & Shepherd's pie. If one feels adventurous, the burger with peanut butter, the Edson, or the Japanese poutine, the Chuck Norris, are worth the try. If you're thinking « lean », you can opt for a fresh salad as a side. If you're thinking blood pressure annihilator & heart attack, side for a poutine along the burger & keep your meds at reach. Besides minding my nutrition, I just love to sit on the terasse on the side by the church when the lilacs are in bloom during spring or in the fall at peak folliage. If you come around, please do say Hi to Martine & Mathieu, the loveliest staff I've ever met around. They've hold clients in respect for as long as I can remember. I'm positive they can show you where the bar still shows signs of wear from my elbows, as years of indulging pints after pints required appropriate support & balance. Cheers to all beer lovers !
Super bonne ambiance de bar !! Les bières sont bonnes, ce pendant ils ne font pas de pichets… la nourriture est correct, nous avons essayé la poutine spicy, les frites sont bonnes.
Food was nice. But at the end of tonight (27/09) the female server was stood over us when we were paying the bill & when half of us hadn't tipped (as young students) she said what is wrong with the service? Service was ok but very slow. & that if we didn't tip she wouldn't be paid (she only brought us our bill & didn't serve us).She then pushed by asking if we were local & understood how tipping culture works in restaurant. Ruined our evening at the restaurant & made my friends uncomfortable.
We spend the summers in Montreal & have been going to this pub once a week. The staff has always went out of their way to make you feel welcomed & of course the food is awesome.
Today, for the first time, a women waited on us & I had seen her there before. She is a manager or supervisor & she made us feel so unwelcomed & like it was a total inconvenience for her to wait on us.
As always, I still left a 20 percent tip because I know how hard the staff works & they deserve to be appreciated. We will still go there weekly because of the food & service & I will make sure that she does wait on our table.
Hard to believe one person could ruin your view of an establishment.
