Review Summary

Pub McCarold is widely regarded as a staple in the Cote des Neiges neighborhood, consistently praised for its warm, lively atmosphere and dependable pub fare such as burgers, poutine, and traditional Irish dishes. Patrons frequently highlight the extensive selection of beers on tap and whiskies, noting that the venue serves as a reliable spot for casual drinks and social gatherings. While most reviews emphasize the friendly, attentive, and professional nature of the staff, experiences can occasionally vary due to the busy nature of the pub or isolated service issues. A classic neighborhood Irish pub in the heart of Cote des Neiges with a strong student & local crowd vibe. The place stands out for its solid beer selection (20+ taps) & a wide range of whiskies, making it a reliable spot for casual drinks.

Food is standard but well-executed pub fare-burgers, poutine, fish & chips-with a few standout comfort dishes like mac & cheese. The atmosphere is warm & lively, especially during games or evenings, though it can get noisy & service may slow down at peak times.

A dependable, no-frills pub with good energy & solid food/drinks-best for relaxed nights with friends rather than a refined dining experience. Be aware that children below 18 are not accepted, even babies!!

Decent pub in Universite de Montréal / Cote des Neiges neighborhood. A bit limited in the selection of beer but they do have all the classics. The food is good but rather pricey. A pint + a plate of fish & chips cost around $42 taxes & tips included.

My friends & myself were once part of the furniture at McCarold's. Our long evenings were then filled with long forgotten & unproven manly-man tales of conquests & fortunes. For the sake of a healthier liver & as family duties were calling upon, I had to abandon ship & ancre my safety boat in a distant suburb. I still go back every now & then, so to remember the good times & the better times. Set almost at the foot of Mount-Royal in the busy, eclectic & diversified district of Côtes-des-neiges, in Frenglish Montreal, the venue offers plenty of seats, with several rooms & 2 terrasses. The selection of beers & liquors is one of the best in Montréal. The kitchen offers a pretty good selection of meals based on pubs' culture. For example the ever Oh so popular Ballymore burger & Shepherd's pie. If one feels adventurous, the burger with peanut butter, the Edson, or the Japanese poutine, the Chuck Norris, are worth the try. If you're thinking « lean », you can opt for a fresh salad as a side. If you're thinking blood pressure annihilator & heart attack, side for a poutine along the burger & keep your meds at reach. Besides minding my nutrition, I just love to sit on the terasse on the side by the church when the lilacs are in bloom during spring or in the fall at peak folliage. If you come around, please do say Hi to Martine & Mathieu, the loveliest staff I've ever met around. They've hold clients in respect for as long as I can remember. I'm positive they can show you where the bar still shows signs of wear from my elbows, as years of indulging pints after pints required appropriate support & balance. Cheers to all beer lovers !
