Overall, reviews of Poutineville depict generous portions and a wide range of poutine options, from classic to creative toppings inspired by different cuisines, with many finding the poutine tasty and comforting and the prices fair for the size. The atmosphere is described as casual and fun, with options like board games and a lively vibe that suits a quick bite or a relaxed evening. Service is frequently praised for friendliness, attentiveness and efficiency, though some visits note inconsistent experiences such as a slower or less engaged server, lukewarm poutine, or fries that were not hot. A few reviews mention smaller takeout portions or food that did not meet expectations, but many diners report positive experiences and would return, especially for the Montreal style and other signature poutines. The restaurant is also seen as family friendly with options for different tastes and dietary considerations, making it a reliable choice for groups, students or travelers looking for a big meal and a casual setting in downtown Montreal.
We were in the mood for poutine & happened upon this spot. The serving sizes were generous, & the waitress was very friendly. We were pleasantly surprised to find board games available for us to play! It's an ideal spot for socializing with friends, whether enjoying a game while waiting for your food or having fun while dining. We definitely plan on returning to finish our game!
Single server & chef tried their best but the restaurant was severely understaffed. Two of our orders were wrong & food wasn't the best. Good atmosphere with board games available. A bit overpriced for the quality.
Food was really great. I feel bad for the server because she was all by herself & the food took a long time to order, prepare, & clean up. Not complaining, just an observation some patrons would be far more critical of. Otherwise, the food was great.
Food is extremely filling even with the regular size dish. Make sure to come on an empty stomach, or you will regret it. Other than that, the food is really good & has the perfect temperature, they offer board games for you to play, & the staff is friendly. The food takes an average time to get ready. The place takes a semi retro look, but there's no distinct smell or warmth to the place.
So coming from New England in the states, & as a family who loves a good poutine, we were very excited about our first poutine in Canada. We were pretty disappointed, however. The poutine was very mediocre. We tried the Traditional + bacon, & a General Tao, to try something different. It may have just been a bad choice because the bacon tasted funny, like microwaved leftover pork tastes. We didn't finish ours. The general Tao Was also just whatever. The curds were lacking a bit on flavor, like bland mozz. The gravy was decent, & the fries seemed decent as well, & those 2 are the primary ingredients. But certainly couldn't give this 4 stars even. Probably the funky tasting bacon that left the worst impression. We've been spoiled by places in the states that make excellent poutine. Such as the one at The Fix in Worcester Mass, which has a gravy that is infused with rosemary & black pepper, & Maplebrook Farm cheddar curds. My kids literally fight each other as they race through that one. Will try one more poutine somewhere in Montréal before we leave & hope for a better experience. The waitress was pleasant, & the vibe was very casual.
I came here one night on live comedy night. When I came in I was invited to join the table of comedians playing an improv game. It was welcoming as they are also an English friendly bar like Grumpy's (live music) just a couple doors down. Yes they have Xbox. I've heard that their food was VERY good. My friend recommends getting the hand mashed potatoes for one of the various options available for your choose-your-own style poutine. Next time I'm in Montreal I will for sure return & try some of their poutine on another comedy night!
