Food. Seemed fresh. Cooked properly. Poorly seasoned - lacked flavour on every dish eater except the won ton soup.
Service. Casual & young servers. Limited English & French. Knowledgeable on their product selection.
Atmosphere. Casual cosy. Beautiful ambient music was the highlight of this restaurant. The music made this place feel relaxing & calming. Big credit to management to select this style of music. Seating is table & banquets & menus are plasticized table mats.
I was eager to try this place as I've passed by here dozens of times at all hours & days & nights where they are typically busy. So I bright a group of foodies & some asians to delight in what I hoped would be authentic & a flavourful experience.
First off, this is not a traditional Vietnamese restaurant. This is somewhat of a fusion as well as (the waiter called it) a North American reinterpretation of Vietnamese cuisine.
The pricing is reasonable as well as the portions for the most part, with the exception of small appetizer wonton soup at $7.00.
Overall the food was exceptionally bland. When I say exceptionally & bland, I am not overstating this I am actually trying to heavily emphasize these this point as it was a serious bone of contention. The food is cooked without any passion, it's all mechanical like a processing line & when I peaked in the kitchen to observe how they function it too looked as if it was just a processing of dished being pushed out.
Basic cooking 101 is the chef must taste the food before serving to a customer. I can't imagine a Vietnamese person enjoying the food let alone recognize that this was a Vietnamese recipe as there was essentially no flavour - & don't get me started on the lack of an appetizing aroma. This was only a meal for two senses - your eyes & texture.
In addition to this point, the chicken with the noodles dish lacked sufficient sauce to blend the fried noodles & as such had to order additional sauce to moderately cover the noodles to soften then to an eatable status. Moreover, the portion of chicken was beyond small, when compared to the grilled chicken dish it was less than a third of the portion of chicken. It was also poorly cooked or the chicken was off because its texture was a bit stringy & a bit rubbery.
I sadly have to declare that this is not a proper Vietnamese restaurant as it's (lack of) seasoning & reinterpretation of dishes as well as adding dishes that are not Vietnamese (pad Thai as one example, wonton soup as another) do not fit the bill. Even in terms of the wonton soup, it's seasoning (the only dish that had some flavour), was nothing like a wonton nor were the wontons & as such, should not be named wonton soup. It was a bit of a letdown as I was expecting wonton soup. One can state that their dishes & recipes are reinvented or jacked up - sure, but if you're not communicating this on the menu & instead offering a dish with a recognized name & therefore taste profile, then a customer can be misguided & thus let down as I was.
So, I will not return nor recommend this place as I don't see its value proposition, its food satisfying, its expertise worth while having again.
There are too many competitors on & off the island of Montreal & I would prefer to risk trying a new place & hope to find a goodie than come back again & be let down terribly. The thought of even eating the food again makes me somewhat nausea.
I do not see how the rating of this place is above a 4 star as it does not posses the qualities of 4 star restaurants & struggles to achieve a 3 star rating.
I get this place is trying to make its mark in a somewhat unique manner, but idea & execution are two different things. As to explaining why this place seems so busy I expect it has to do with its location & lack of competition nearby. & the other likely due to people not knowing the food or having low expectations. I humbly suggest.
Great place for vietnamese pho & grilled meals. The food is delicious is the Prices are reasonable.
Really wholesome Vietnamese food at very reasonable prices! The banh Mi was fantastic, & the pad thai was surprisingly tasty. Bonus that it was open on a public holiday
I was there this week & the food was absolutely phenomenal, the sizes of the portions were enormous, Service was excellent, & I must admit… It was the Best Vietnamese restaurant I have been to in Montreal.
Nice place, great & fast service. However the food was not great. It is tonned down in flavor probably to match the neighborhood demographic. So don't go there to expect super authentic Vietnamese food but it will do the job.
This new Vietnamese joint is a blessing. Portions are larger than expected for its prices; $15 lunch special with pho & large imperial roll is unbeatable in Montreal. They make their own cakes, carrot one was one of the best I've ever had. I'm a regular now.
I always go to CDN for Vietnamese but my friend told me about this restaurant. Im so glad I discovered it. Food was great. Better than anywhere else, such great deal & so close to my house. It's going to be our go to Vietnamese. Thank you for great food. Im so excited to try other food.
3 of us shared combo f & combo g. We had fried chicken dumplings & shrimp spring rolls as well. All the food was delicious & portions are huge! The pho soup (mini was part of combo) was the best we've ever had & next visit I'm ordering a full sized one! Finished off with the most yummy Vietnamese iced coffee! Friendly service as well.
Me & a friend came across this neighbourhood restaurant for the first time & we discovered they hand down the best soup & menus I've ever had! The broth is rich & flavourful, & the service is always friendly. Pho Anni is now become my go-to spot for Vietnamese cuisine. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, & the quality is exceptional. Pho Anni exceeded my expectations . The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is attentive, & the food is simply delicious. I'll be back again & again! I'd love to see more dessert options besides the delicious banana rolls I had so far, but overall, I'm a big fan from now on.
BYOB Vietnamese restaurant, this is mind blowing! Food is great & they are not shy on quantity. I've really enjoyed the pho & the spring rolls, can't wait to try everything else on the menu! Oh & by the way, great price!
Just up the street from us & we wish we had gone sooner!!!! What amazing flavors & the portions are great! The Vietnamese Iced Coffees are a MUST! We will be coming back often 😁
The food here is absolutely delicious with generous portions! Service is also excellent. Going to become my new go-to spot for Vietnamese!
Very great food, classic taste of pho & bun bo hue. The Vietnamese coffee is also 👌
Looked for a close Vietnamese restaurant that was still open at 8:30PM on Saturday. The soup blew my mind. It was so rich with beef taste. It is definitely a go-to place for the out-of-town guests.
So happy we have this great Vietnamese restaurant in our neighbourhood! Service is excellent, generous portions & delicious food. We will be back!
Went to this new restaurant with family. All items fresh & tasty. My wife only eats chicken breast which is usually not available in Vietnamese restaurants. We were pleasantly surprised that in fact they served breast. Service was friendly & efficient . Seems all family members from waiters to kitchen. It was a very enjoyable evening with great food. I
Went to try this new restaurant yesterday. It is a very friendly place. Service was fast & efficient. The food is delicious. My kids had the pho soup & the broth was delicious my mom had a vermicelli & lemon grass chicken which was very tasty & I had a beef & chicken on rice. All dishes are generous in their portion. I have eaten at a few Vietnamese restaurants in NDG & for years Pho 88 on Decarie was a strong bench mark for excellence we now have a new king of the neighbourhood.
Wow I've been trying to find a good Vietnamese restaurant in Montreal for over a year now. I'm from Ottawa & we have a lot of great Vietnamese restaurants due to popularity & competition. I would say this restaurant is up there. The pho broth has flavour & the portion of meat is great. They have real sriracha which is a plus & finally a place that serves vermicelli with a hefty amount of vegetables! I 100% recommend this place & it's a bang for your buck !!!!
The best Vietnamese place I have ever come. I'm vegetarian & they also provide vegetarian menu which is even BETTER. The family is super friendly & welcoming, I cant wait to come back!!!
