Philinos Restaurant & Bistro in Montreal's Mile-End district offers a menu that is influenced from the Mediterranean, with fresh ingredients such as olive oil, calamari, lamb, pork and herbs. Their dishes can be described in two words: simple and savory. The chefs at Philinos rely on traditional Greek recipes for appetizers and customary dishes such as Moussaka, Dolmadakia, and Kotopoulo. Sample Menu: Spinach and feta cheese Pie, Marinated grilled octopus, Grilled chicken fillet, Grilled lamb chops, Home made Greek sausage and other tasty dishes. Philinos offers customers a cozy and relaxed haven in which to enjoy a hearty meal.
Overall, Philinos is described as a lively yet welcoming Greek‑Mediterranean spot where the food is consistently delicious, fresh, and well presented, with standout dishes like charred octopus, lamb chops, chicken souvlaki, and moussaka; portions can be generous and the prices high but felt warranted by quality and BYOW options, though a few reviews note small entrées and the greek salad surcharge; service is repeatedly praised for being friendly, professional, attentive, and accommodating, with staff often cited as a major part of the positive experience, while a rare interaction with management is mentioned as less smooth; the atmosphere is warm, festive, and homey, suitable for birthdays, groups, or business meals, and accessibility is highlighted with a large space, helpful staff, and well designed facilities; despite occasional noise on busy weekend nights, most reviewers would return and many call it the West Island’s premier dining option.
Yes, it's noisy! We were there on a Saturday evening. Thank goodness we arrived at 5:30 & were nearly done by 7:30 because at that point we could not hear ourselves talk.
Food was good, a bit pricey considering portion size (no greek rice, 1 potato, very small entrées). Service was good but when we asked for a twist cap to recap the wine (wasn't left on the table) the server pulled a cork out of his pocket & stuffed it in the bottle (ick!). Will not go back.
Great restaurant! My table had pork & chicken filets, with salad for appetizers, & cheese cake/baklava. Tasty, well spiced, generous portions, great presentation, well cooked as desired. Served appropriately quickly.
Cappuccino & coffee were excellent. Prices are overall on the high end but also reflect the quality, freshness, portions, cooking art mastery that is served.
The main part of my experience was with the staff, whom all participated in making this a great evening! Friendly & good sense of humor, professional, polite, very respectful! A real pleasure!
Accessibility:
Main entrance with double doors. No push button.
The restaurant is large. The space between tables is okay for manual & power wheelchair.
The staff is also always willing to give priority to accessibility & move tables for more space if needed.
I would recommend to a mobility scooter user to ask for a spot to park, if possible, because it's not much possible to maneuver inside the restaurant with a scooter.
Bathroom (women):
Door has no push button & is relatively heavy.
Very large accessible stall, allows power wheelchair to turn inside of it, with safety bar properly placed, toilet paper easy to access, nothing to block the space. The stall door opens as supposed, towards the outside.
Total of 3 stalls, 1 of them being accessible.
Sinks with access under, soap easily reachable.
Bathroom impressively well adapted for accessibility! Well done!
The staff is very respectful, helpful & seems used to have customers with disabilities.
Thank you for the great experience!

The service from our waiter was truly excellent, friendly, attentive, & very professional. Unfortunately, our interaction with the manager did not reflect the same tone.
We visited as a group, & two of us were asked to move tables to accommodate a vegetarian/vegan order since they could not eat from almost all of the group deal's plates. which we completely understood & were happy to do. Later, the manager mentioned that he had'seen' one of us taste from a dish &, as a result, charged her the full price of the group deal at the end of our visist, despite it being just a small bite. Our colleagues had simply offered food they were not going to finish, which is something most people do when dining together.
This left us feeling somewhat uncomfortable, as it seemed like we were being monitored rather than hosted. The situation felt strict & inflexible, especially considering the food would likely have gone to waste.
We fully respect that restaurants have policies, but a bit of understanding & dialogue can go a long way in making guests feel welcome. Unfortunately, the handling of this situation created an awkward atmosphere & overshadowed what could have been a pleasant first visit.
I love this restaurant, from the food, atmosphere, service, very fair prices, & great staff!
Food is always very consistently amazing! Owners & staff are incredibly friendly & service is always impeccable!
Had a nice dinner tonight - food was good, & the portions were generous. We had the trio of spreads as an entree & moussaka as a main. The atmosphere was festive so sometimes it was a bit hard to talk to my partner but it was understandable considering the large party they were accommodating.
The prices to me were fine as it is a BYOW restaurant.
The one thing that bothered me was the Greek salad that accompanied the meal. It has a surcharge of 4 dollars compared to other salads. I guessed it was because of the price of feta & olives. In the end though, there were 2 olives & a couple of crumbs of feta & pretty much the equivalent of a whole red onion - which I left. Not was I expect from a Greek salad in a supposedly highly regarded Greek restaurant - especially with them charging extra. I told the waitress & showed her the pile of onion in my plate - but it was disregarded & I was charged the 4 dollars. That was disappointing & off putting.
The food was outstanding, however the portions are gargantueous, we all took doggy bags home. The chicken souvlaki could be diminished to one stick & so could the price. The moussaka was delicious but the piece was good enough for two meals. The $65 option on the menu was crazy & too much food for 1 person. They should rethink the menu & prices.
