I always enjoy this place. Still relatively cheap, & abundant plates. All of the food is good, at minimum, & a lot is great. Their noodle dishes are all good. All of the favourites like hunan dumplings, general tao, orange beef, szechuan stuff in general is there & ranging from good to great. They have a lot of the more traditional stuff, like shrimp in lobster sauce, dry chilli beef, szechuan chicken, etc, & all are great. Service is great too. The waiters always make us laugh. Overall great place. Go thereView more

Once a really good Chinese restaurant on the level of the old Yangtze restaurant on Van Horn. But they closed & Pékin Garden moved to the east side of queen Mary road & since that they just don't seem to have that same quality. It's a decent place to eat but it's not a place you have a nice dinner out meal with family or a date. Very dated old interior & menues should be replaced. For a quick lunch under $15 for one with soup & a small portion of rice, the main protein & what not is decent & quick but it hits the spot to full the belly. Value: lunch time maybe not dinner time. Service: reasonable but nothing to applause. Parking is tough. Selection: typical old style Chinese Canadian selection. Pineapple chicken filled with way too much breading - like no chicken practically. Soup broth poor & lacks flavour as do wontons. Beef too chewy. General Tao too sugary & too much breading. Egg rolls cheap & tasteless. Quality & freshness: well......View more

For the past 12 years, Pekin Garden had been our family favorite restaurant. It had its ups & downs, but generally we were pleased by their food & always returned. Sadly that has changed.

We ordered delivery & it arrived *COLD*. Not luke warm, completely at room temperature, cold. Even the soup! Needless to say it was ruined, cold & soggy, sauces congealed (reheating in the microwave did not revive it). Far more concerning, the egg-rolls were burnt (almost blackened!) flattened & dried out, & several dishes had unusually low-quality meat & chicken that could not be chewed. Overall the food was terrible in taste--cold or not! On top of this, they carelessly forgot to include a main dish dipping-sauce we ordered, which we paid an extra surcharge on. After a few bites it left us feeling sick & we had to THROW IT ALL OUT. A dinner for two that cost $50!

I politely phoned in about the issue, but was told it's our fault because we ordered at a busy time & their driver has many drop offs. To add insult, they charged an extra $3.00 delivery surcharge when they are incapable of organizing deliveries. I called a few days later to speak to the owner, but to no avail. Instead they rudely told me off & spoke over me, not even willing to listen or apologize. I said we won't ever return & they are losing long time customers, & they literally said THEY DO NOT CARE! I can overlook high prices & shrinking portions, but food so bad it has to be thrown out? & then to be apathetic & rude to your customers when they tactfully voice concern? Unfortunately we will never order from Pekin Garden again. I cannot recommend them any longer & I hope this can go out as a warning to anyone new or long time customers. This restaurant has gone way downhill in recent months. Avoid at all costs!

A great neighbourhood eatery. But - after we had gone there for the third time in less than 1 month, I started noticing that the General Tao Chicken's sauce was not the Tao sauce but the one used for the orange duck. The sauce was good, too thick, though, & too sweet. The Tao is a totally different sauce & a bit spicy. It seems that they sugar everything (even the dry garlicky spare ribs).
