The desserts were good, but the service completely ruined it for us. Almost all of our orders came out wrong even after we repeated them clearly multiple times. I ordered a hojicha drink & got matcha instead. We also got the wrong parfait twice & ended up receiving the marron parfait instead of the strawberry vanilla parfait we originally asked for.The staff also seemed impatient & dismissive while taking our orders, which already made things uncomfortable. What really upset us was being told to leave within an hour after finishing our food, while the table beside us - who had been there longer than us - were allowed to stay & even received complimentary gifts. The difference in treatment was very obvious & honestly felt disrespectful. At some point it stopped feeling like just'bad service' & started feeling like selective treatment & discrimination, which is especially disappointing considering how much businesses talk about diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging nowadays. Customers should be treated fairly & respectfully regardless of who they are. Good desserts are not enough to make up for how unwelcome we felt. Definitely not an experience we would want to repeat.
Good desserts, mediocre service. Friends ordered a strawberry vanilla parfait & got a marron instead. Another ordered a hojicha drink but got matcha instead. The owner also insisted we leave after one hour. It's understandable since it was about to be peak hours, but we would have appreciated a notice of it before we order & for this rule to be applied to other people too since some we've noticed have been staying for even longer than us. Either way, it was unpleasant to eat there.
I love that that they added some more vintage tables in the store. It added more vibe. The desserts & pastries from their regular menu are great! Their participation in Japanese week is super fun too. I personally find the chestnut cream in the parfait a bit too sweet & tastes maple. But the other components are great! Not overpowered by sweetness. We love the katsu sando!
Honestly, I am very disappointed with how we were treated at the café. We came to enjoy some good food & a fun decorating activity with friends, but we were kicked out in less than an hour. The same treatment was not given to other customers who were there before us. We understand that lunch service was starting & that there would be many customers, but fairness should be applied to everyone, not just a particular group of people.
Furthermore, while ordering, my friends & I did not receive what we asked for. There were several mistakes. I ordered a hojicha latte but received a matcha instead. My friend ordered a'fruit rouge' parfait but was given a'marron parfait.' The worker (or owner) was also very impatient during the situation. We chose not to say anything further to avoid making a big deal out of it, but all these small issues made the experience quite unpleasant.
Overall, this was not a good start to'La semaine Japon,' an event we were really looking forward to.
Incroyable experience !!
We were lucky to have air bnb next door. We bought coffee & breakfast daily as well as one of almost all of their many pastries for our group to try. It was fun to sample all the'fancy' desserts. Everything was delicious & fresh. The owner was very friendly & we enjoyed visiting his shop. Thank you for being a memorable part of our Montreal vacation.
Marriage parfait entre le Japon & la France. L'omelette au riz est recomamdé. Surtout avec leur ketchup maison. La rose est aussi belle que délicieux. Les gens sont charmants. Excellent service
This unassuming coffee shop was a delightful surprise. They make delicious pastries, soups, & sandwiches.
We ate some unbelievable food during our Montreal vacation… but this'Notre Dame Rose' Gateaux Cake is easily the most delicious thing we've ever had the pleasure to stuff our faces with.
ASK FOR YOUR RECEIPT & CHECK IF YOU HAD TIP ADDED WITHOUT CONSENT
I like the cakes & pastries here & pop in when looking for a treat. I live the neighbourhood.
This evening I went with my daughter & she wanted to pick the cakes as a surprise. We agreed that she would choose 3 & I would pay.
It was fun for us, however the proprieter sneakily added a 15% tip & made sure that I didn't see it.
At the payment, I noticed the price jump as high covered the screen & made his selection. I asked for the receipt, as I felt that it was suspicious but wanting to maintain the fun for a four year old feeling independant. Checking it later I realised what he had done.
I was going to add a tip as he had played along & because I like the desserts.
I'm quite saddened by this experience especially & feel unnecessarily cheated.
Super accueil ce matin, pain au chocolat top, viennoiserie maison à la framboise délicieuse, je recommande à tous.
Excellentes pâtisseries, sans oublier le pin au chocolat. Merci pour l'accueil
Third time getting a birthday cake from Bervig, & it's absolute perfection every single time. This was a chocolate raspberry cake, with the freshest raspberry cream, a very fluffy chocolate cake, melting in our mouths. It was delicious & very well balanced. Owners are very nice & attentive to detail, it's a pleasure talking to them every time. If you're looking for a good cake for a special occasion, highly recommend!
I order a cake every year for my wife birthday at this place for 4 years now....& every year the cake is delicious. As French, I have very high standards for pastries, & what Bervig sirved is top quality, similar to what I could find in Paris. The place itself is very cosy & nicely situated.
