Incredible service, but the food & comfort missed the mark for the price.

The absolute highlight of our night! Our server was fantastic, she guided us through the menu, helped us order, & was incredibly attentive the entire evening.
Ambiance & Comfort: The restaurant has a really nice vibe, but the school-style chairs are incredibly uncomfortable. It's hard to enjoy a two-hour dining experience when your back starts aching halfway through.
The Food: This is where things fell short, especially given the high price point. The porchetta was amazing & easily the best thing we ordered. However, the steak was overcooked, burnt in some areas, & had way too much fat (even for a good cut). Both the steak & the lobster baked potato lacked flavor, though the potato had a nice texture. We also tried the scallops but really didn't like them; the dish just felt very weird.
Overall, while the concept is cool & the staff is top-notch, the food felt overpriced for the actual taste & execution.
We arrived at Papito right when they opened so we had the space almost entirely to ourselves & we absolutely loved our dining experience here. Definitely our favorite restaurant in Montreal so far! The prime rib was perfectly cooked & tender, amazingly flavourful, & all the vegetables were super tasty. The ambiance is very lively, & their playlist was 10/10, super nice vibe to come with friends or family. Our servers were all very friendly & made our experience very memorable! Will be coming back when we return to Montreal
Unfortunately, this place falls short in many ways.
1. Their attempt at a minimalist menu only creates confusion as to how an item is prepared & what the portions are like, which puts more burden on the waiters to answer more questions. Some items are already market price. This makes choosing items take longer & waiters are held at tables for longer, causing service to run even slower.
2. Service was very slow. Half of our order came fairly quickly, the other half took almost an hour after to arrive. This made the sharing experience very lackluster. While clearing our tables, our waiter also tried to take away our sauces that WE PAY FOR when our meats hadn't even arrived & also never gave us new napkins.
3. The flower arrangements & lighting are pleasant to the vibes, the music is unbearingly loud & the industrial building causes sound to travel everywhere. Our party had to step outside several times for a breather because it was simply too much, & we could not hear each other very well let alone the waitress when she would ask us questions.
Another important note I'd like to add for women: we struggled keeping our purses on the chairs. Waiters would bump into them & never pick them up. This is not very pleasant when you have expensive purses. One of our friends became increasingly frustrated with this. We're not sure if that's what they were designed for, but we eventually placed our purses on the wooden stand by our feet.
4. I'm not sure if I perhaps misread the dessert selection, but we ordered 2 flans & were incredibly disappointed by them. Neither of us finished it as we dislike cheesecake & the flan was more of a queso flan so the cream cheese taste was not what we expected.
Items are very expensive for what they are. We paid 500$ & left this place unsatisfied. I will not be coming back.
Fantastic food, amazing presentation, attentive & engaging staff, & an all around great vibe. The perfect place for our large group to have dined in Montreal. So happy we did!
Had a delicious dinner here on a Saturday night. We were in town for a concert so had an early dinner but still had a great ambiance. Love the vibe, the service was top notch & the food was fantastic. Our server (I think their name was Frances) provided us with great suggestions that took into account our food intolerances. Food was so fresh! Had the bread & butter, eggplant, chicken skewer, catch of the day & cucumber feta. Everything was lovely but the fish was a stand out! Will be back next time we're in town for sure!
