Initially we went to the restaurant to sit down, but understandably, there is a long wait for a table on Saturday night, so we ordered take out instead. We ordered Yin Yang fried rice & dried fried beef noodles.
Usually food is always great here. Food for this takeout is decent today. i would say above average compared to other Chinese restaurants.
Had to wait over 20 mins to write down our takeout order because kitchen close at 9pm on Saturday night, & they said they are too busy usually on Saturday night in the last 90 mins before kitchen close. Received the food only after close to 40 mins from the time we arrived.
I would suggest, dear readers, that on Thursday to Saturday night, order takeout instead of dining in, & go straight to the Cashier counter where you pay for the bills to order takeouts. Absolutely do not expect the waiters to take your takeout orders. You will wait a LONG time.
I would also suggest you order the food from Fantuan or UberEats through deliveries to save yourself the wait time of the food, because it is a long wait in evenings. (Price for UberEats & Fantuan is similar to restaurant takeout or deliveries, no markups in the app like other restaurants :)
Lunch service usually is pretty good service.
The counter lady with glasses was the onky person who was very nice & helpful.
Edit: useful info: they do not accept AMEX even though on the amex website, it says they do & its not written on the restaurant's website.
Papa Jackie offers decent Chinese food with consistently good quality. While the prices are on the higher side, the ingredients & preparation generally justify the cost. The parking lot is quite small, which can be frustrating during peak hours. Service used to be more attentive in the past - it's still acceptable, but not quite what it used to be. Overall, a reliable option if you're craving Chinese, especially if you're prioritizing quality over price.
First time eating here in June 2025
the restaurant is nicely decorated & the staff were very nice. The bathroom was clean & they had a cool aquarium that you could choose your fresh talapia, lobster & crab from.
Their menu is very varied, from single plates to full meals for big families. & is in a few languages.
We tried Menu C for 2 people that was decently priced. It came with Wonton soup imperial rolls, general taos chicken, beef with vegetables, sezchuan shrimp & rice.
The wonton soup broth was very good but the wontons had no flavor & were very doughy.
The imperial rolls were better but they give you plum sauce in individual plastic packets like for take out.
The chicken was plentiful but just ok in flavor.
The shrimp is a bit spicy & the beef was tender. The vegetables with the beef were well cooked & had a tasty sauce.
All in all a big meal for a decent price. We found it to be'ok' & the people really nice. If you want a large meal for a decent price then it is worth trying.
Also many reviewers mentioned the wait time for a table, we were there on a Saturday around 4pm & we were sat immediately, by the time we were done it was filling up fast...
For a city like MTL that's pretty much a Chinese food dessert, this place really stands out. The flavors are great, light, & super comfy to eat-definitely has that Cantonese vibe. The dishes are a bit pricey, but honestly, it's still a 10/10 for me!
Did take out.. food was not good for the price paid.. I heard good things but maybe it was a very OFF day.. but cost me a lot of $$ to eat below par Chinese food.
Good food, quick service, even in big groups, nice place but busy & crowdy. People love to eat there. However: TERRIBLE parking. Whoever drew the parking line, drew them for little fiats or scooters. Don't come with your big fat F-150. Good luck finding a spot. Also, some plates have a fair price & some are pricey. Prices did rise in the last year.
My family has been eating here for years & it`s by far the best chinese restaurant on the south shore you should definitely check it out food is good, the service is good as well. That being said we are a little disappointed that they keep raising prices frequently while portion sizes have gone down at some point last year. I order the same thing every time June 2024 - my order cost 53.xx$ July 2024 - my order cost 55.xx$ December 2024 - my order cost 60.xx$ In 5 months the prices went up 12% & they were already up since last year & the year before. If it continues like that eventually we will have to consider a different alternative
We visited Papa Jackie based on a recommendation & were pleasantly surprised. Although the parking lot was packed, we managed to find a spot just as someone was leaving. Inside, the restaurant is spacious, with plenty of room between tables, creating a relaxed & comfortable atmosphere. The food was excellent-everything we ordered was incredibly well-prepared & bursting with flavor. The quality certainly stood out, comparing favorably to similar spots in town. However, we did notice that prices were on the high side, & in some cases, the cost seemed disproportionately high. For instance, the lobster, which is understandably pricy outside coastal areas, felt particularly expensive here. Overall, Papa Jackie is a fantastic choice if you're after a high-quality meal & don't mind the splurge.
Very good authentic food. Flavourful. The staff is very nice & courteous. Definitely a great spot for friends/family but not for anything romantic. My biggest complaint is that the price is extremely high per item: about 30% higher than most Chinese restaurants in the same quality bracket.
Love this place. Always delicious & decently priced. From outside it looks unassuming, but the food is truly delicious 🤤
An authentic Chinese restaurant in the South Shore. The staff is friendly & was very helpful with the menu. The portions were very good for the price. Everything tasted fresh & good. The plates look beautiful & are very appealing to the eyes. The wait can be long, but they accept reservations. We left with lots of leftovers.
My friend suggested me that place for authentic chinese food. & i wasn't disappointed. The food was amazing💯💯, the portion was pretty decent for the price. I'll definitely go back there in an another time.
The service & the food was excellent. Prices were very reasonable. Could be the best Chinese on the South Shore.
If you are looking for authentic South Eastern Chinese cuisine without going all the way to Chinatown, here is PAPA JACKIE for you!. The food is amazing & the price is fair!
One of the best healthiest well priced foods you can get. My favorites are Broccoli & beef Pad thai
