I had mixed feelings about my experience at O.Noir.
The service at the beginning was excellent, & the concept itself is very unique & interesting. Dining in complete darkness is truly an experience. However, once seated, the atmosphere changed significantly due to very large groups being extremely loud. There was yelling, constant laughter, & disruptive behavior, to the point where other guests were asking them to be quiet. One woman even took out her phone repeatedly to take pictures of her food, which completely broke the immersion.
I understand that when someone loses their sight, they may naturally compensate by speaking louder, but I strongly feel that guests should be reminded to keep their voices at a reasonable level. I also think limiting table sizes to no more than four people would greatly improve the experience-large groups really take away from the calm & immersive atmosphere. The noise became so overwhelming that we rushed through our meal just to leave, & I ended up with a migraine.
As for the food, it was mediocre overall. While it is impressive that the chefs are visually impaired, the execution could be improved. I ordered the beef (sirloin/flank), & it was very difficult to cut & chew in the dark. The pieces were too large, which made eating uncomfortable & even nauseating.
I would recommend doing the two-course option instead of the four-course meal. There is about a 30-minute wait between each course, which makes it a very long time to remain in complete darkness-especially when paired with excessive noise.
The concept is excellent, but the overall experience could be significantly improved with better crowd control, smaller group sizes, & clearer expectations for guest behavior.
This was a great unique experience that everyone should experience
What an incredible & unique experience! From the moment we walked in we were treated with exceptional service. From the hosts in the lounge to our amazing server, Dominic, the place knows how to make customers feel valued. The food was fantastic! Pick some surprise course, it adds a fun element & you won't be disappointed. Dining in complete darkness was surreal & a challenge, but it was such a fun experience. It also makes you feel so much empathy for those that are visually impaired. No pictures to add, but definitely check this place out.
Such a unique experience! My friend & I had an amazing time & an unforgettable night.
What an unforgettable experience! We went to O'Noir as a family & it was truly one of the most unique dining experiences we've ever had. Dining in complete darkness really heightens your senses & makes you appreciate food in a whole new way.
The staff were absolutely amazing, kind, professional & incredibly impressive. We were especially moved by the visually impaired team members who guided us with such confidence & care. The food was delicious, & the whole experience left a lasting impression on all of us. Highly recommend if you're looking for something different & meaningful.
It was a fascinating experience eating in total darkness. The food portions were pretty large & tasted good. Our server, Sammy, was very helpful & attentive. I highly recommend coming here at least once for the unique experience.
The food is surprisingly tasty. We ordered 4-course meal with hot & cold starters, a main & a dessert. Every dish is unique. The dishes are very sizeable. So by the time the main dish was served, although it was good indeed, I was so full that I could no longer enjoy it like I did with the starters. So if you are not really gourmand, I don't recommend a 4-course.
Our waiter Fay was friendly & professional. Everything was served perfectly & precisely.
The three stars for atmosphere was because a table of guests were making donkey sounds (literally) & laughing very loud throughout their dining time. I have no idea from where they got the hint of entering a zoo instead of a restaurant & started behaving like animals.
What a unique experience! If you go, let them "surprise" you!
What a unique experience! Other than the person who kept its watch, there was absolutely no light to be seen. We ordered downstairs in the bar, where everything was clearly explained. Our server, Sophia, was absolutely great, her instructions were very clear & her service impeccable. I made us appreciate the gift of sight. It is very hard to comment on food. It was tasty, thats all I can say.
Loved the experience! Fay was a fantastic host, the food was excellent, & the experience in the dark was unique & memorable. My only suggestion, & this has nothing to do with the restaurant, is to avoid going as a large group. The beginning of the meal was amazing as there were only a few quiet tables, but once some noisy larger groups showed up, it was harder to enjoy the experience.
A Unique Concept, But Not for Everyone O'Noir offers a great dining experience, but it may not suit everyone. Unfortunately, the experience didn't work out for me as I started feeling quite nauseous & dizzy in the complete darkness. Without visual cues to gauge distance or body position, my vertigo seemed to kick in. & even though I don't have claustrophobia, I began to feel a bit panicked & short of breath in the dark. The restaurant itself was quite warm, which didn't help my discomfort. While the food was good, I found it hard to enjoy while feeling unwell. One improvement would be for the restaurant to enforce its "no loud conversation" rule & perhaps lower or turn off the music. Our room was extremely loud; a nearby table was swearing, shouting, & even making fake vomiting sounds, which added to the stress. When I started feeling really sick & needed to leave, it also took a while for the waiter to return. One additional thing to note: the waitstaff touch shoulders & hair frequently when serving drinks, which felt a bit intrusive. A more comfortable approach might be to place the glass on the table & guide guests to it without contact. Overall, I'm glad I tried it, but I definitely won't return. This experience may be best for those who aren't as sensitive to sensory overload.
To start with, the service & the unique experience in itself are very enjoyable. I really like the concept of eating in the complete dark & the waiters were super nice. That being said, I would never go back for 2 main reasons. The first being that the tables are extremely close to one an other which makes the experience really less fun, I could strech my arm & touch the table right next to me, which means you have to hear their whole conversation throughout the night, as if they were sitting at your table. The second reason is the quality of the food for the price. 54$ for 2 service, I would expect a minimum of quality for my plates, which was far from the case. I ordered the surprice sea for appetizer & all I could taste was salad, croûton & sour cream. To this day, I think I might have had one tiny piece of the salmon they said it has, but definitely not worth anything. The worst was the main dish. I had the confit lamb shank. The gratin was the only good thing in that plate. The sauce tasted like premade or from a jar & extremely like water. I couldn't eat it & had to return the plate to change it for the ravioli which were better. I never had to return a plate in a restaurant in my whole life. My friend had the sirloin steak. She ordered medium rare & she had medium well close to well-done. The quality of the steak was again very poor & had a lot of fat on it, that left us with little to no meat. There's no depth in the dishes. Really lack of flavor & quality. I had been wanting to go for so long but ended up being extremely disappointed.
this is such a unique experience, everyone should do it at least once in their lives! The meal heightens your other senses & encourages you to communicate with your dining partner & the staff. I highly recommend asking for surprises for food & beverages, within your dietary restrictions!
O'Noir has been on my wishlist for so long when I lived in Toronto. Yet yesterday was underwhelming. The positive side is the unique experience. It made you feel grateful & gratitude to the servers working in a stressful environment. They do take care of the clients well. Check-in for food allergies, telling you where the dishes are positioned, etc. The food was a huge let down. Warm ciabatta & served with butter in the single serving. For starters, I asked for scallops that supposed to come with sprouts & croutons. There's only 3 oily rubbery scallops in the dish along with the sauce on the side. (Their IG shows at least 5 scallops in the reel) I did not taste any Pinot noir from the sauce. The sauce tasted like premade. I made the note to the waiter, but they didn't do anything. I mentioned it again before I leave. They even question me if I really didn't have the sprouts salad with my scallops. My sauce was on the side. The whole dish just 3 scallops & nothing else. My friend & I both ordered the sirloin steak & I asked to switch my mash potatoes to salad. I ordered medium rare & she had medium. The meat portion was huge but overcooked. Mine tasted like medium well & hers was well-done. She said her mash potatoes was really sweet & heavy. The side salad for me was just two bites of greens. The foie gras sauce again tasted like from a jar with no foie gras flavor. Food was definitely on the heavily oily side, but there's no depth in the dishes. Really lack of flavor & layers. The service was slow but I understand they are a bit crowded & understaffed. It actually made me more appreciate with my life. Another note was the tableware & furniture in the dinning room felt very cheap. It gets crowded & squishy in the dinning room. Everyone is sitting very close to each other. When you are already in a heightened awareness mode with your surroundings, those tiny details really just grinds the gear & made the whole experience unsatisfactory. I think one experience is enough for me. I'd like to look on the bright side & be more appreciative in my life.
