NYKS is a cool-yet-unassuming bistro/pub that surpasses expectations with it's great food, drinks, & service.
We visited NYKS for lunch on a Thursday afternoon in July. There's a few options in the area of Ste-Catherine & Bleury Streets, but we found one of the best.
Upon arrival around noon, the place was coming alive. The staff were friendly & welcoming. We were quickly seated at a high-top table for two on the sidewalk out front, which was rather nice. NYKS had its streetside garage-style windows rolled up, with nice tables set up at the interior's edge that gave patrons inside a cool summer vibe & made passers-by (like us) want to drop in for a visit.
Our server was excellent. Friendly, charming, efficient, helpful. What more can you ask? It was a hot summer day & he quickly took our drink order & ensured that we had refreshment right away.
Before I discuss the unexpectedly excellent food, I'll mention that our server claimed NYKS had the best pour of Guinness in Montreal. I've been to all the best Irish (& English) pubs in the city, & Guinness is'my' beer, so his words raised an eyebrow. I happily put his claim to the test. The best in the city? Them's fightin' words, on a stage of unstable dynamite. But having recently enjoyed Montreal pub crawl experiences (plural), along with my fair share of pints'o the black stuff, I'll say this: I split the G & thoroughly enjoyed my glass. Followed by another.
The food was outstanding & of much higher quality than we expected for an afternoon lunch at an unpretentious bistro. For that matter, the food was as good (or better) than that which had been served to us at some of top-rated places we'd recently visited. A pleasant surprise!
For an appetizer, we had a fabulous'warm seasonal mushroom brushetta.' For lunch, it was an excellent & surprisingly satisfying Niçoise salad, with a generous portion of pan-seared tuna steak, mixed green salad, green beans, tomatoes, baby potatoes, a soft-boiled egg, kalamata olives, red onions, & fresh herb dressing. Also, a very tasty Ratatouille, with added lamb sausage, Kalamata olives, feta cheese, & puff pastry with basil pesto.
All in all, a 5-star lunch.
I've frequently walked past NYKS in the evening & it appeared to be a popular bar for the 5-to-7 & nighttime crowds. Based on other reviews, it seems that's true. But it's also true that NYKS is more than just a bar. It's a great little place for refreshing drinks & an exceptionally nice meal.View more
Boisterous gastro-pub. I sat at the bar & was well looked after by the bar-tender who mixed drinks, pulled drafts & filled water glasses so deftly, he seemed to have eight arms. The Confit Duck Salad was so tasty, I might go back again tonight!View more
The atmosphere & vibe was awesome. Drinks came quick & service was great. Only thing was got poutine & cheese didn't melt because fries were not hot.View more
Love this spot. Visit each time I come to Montreal. Great food, great drinks in a charming little environment. I enjoy stopping here in the warm summer months & having a cocktail on the highchairs outside on the sidewalk. Remains a popular Montreal eatery.View more
Cute, cozy spot for a drink! I tried one of their cider-beer drinks (which I've never seen offered anywhere else) & enjoyed it.View more
Really great cozy spot to have a drink & a bite. Service was fantastic!View more
great place to stop in for a drink if you're staying downtown. really enjoyed the Canadian Mules here.View more
Hey everyone!
If you're looking for a small but nice place to enjoy good food & drinks, served by a very welcoming staff eager to make your experience a blast, look no further!
I went with friends on late afternoon up to the evening (6 hours) & the music (80-90s?) Never too loud so you can talk normally, a big plus for me!
*crowded between 5-8pm (but not loud), don't hesitate to reserve a seat!
I took a medium bavette, it was spot-on! Bison Burger if you want to feel fuller.
Thank you Maxime, Émilie & Noémie!View more
Great spot for a beer or drink. It's quite small though so not good if you have many people. There is essentially no where to stand.View more
Good food. I ordered the duck poutine it was delicious.
Nice staff but not enough of them
for the amount of people they cram in.
be prepared to wait for your drinks/food even if it's a simple order.
Very tight seating makes it feel overcrowded.View more
Excellent food, excellent atmosphere & very friendly service staff. The food was Amazing & reasonable costs. The vibe was pretty cool, despite being packed & a full house it was pleasant. The meals came out hot & perfectly timed for good conversations, drinks & enjoying the space.View more
The restaurant has a cheerful, cozy atmosphere with a vibrant downtown vibe. The food was amazing, & the drinks were unique & delightful. While the food took a little extra time to arrive, the friendly servers made up for it. Overall, it's a great spot to hang out with friends!View more
Service was terrible. Waited so long to order food & order drinks - or order anything additional! Couldn't recommend, sorry.View more
Great place for a drink. It was busy on a Saturday night. Service was excellent.View more

Absolutely amazing. Me & my friend went for a little chit-chat gossip session & absolutely enjoyed this place. Our fantastic server Jordan by far has the best personality ever! They were so well versed on the cocktail menu & helped me & my friend pick out the best drinks for us! The atmosphere of the place is also so nice. Extremely happy with our visit & will be back for more! All props to Jordan. :)View more
I was followed by someone for a while while walking back home late at night & came in this bar for safety & the staff was super helpful, gave me a glass of water & led me trough the back door so I could get back on my way home safely! You guys made my night so much better! Will definitely come back for an actual drink!View more
Sorry but we were underwhelmed by NYCS. We stopped in on a Friday & sat at the bar. We were told we'd have to leave in a short while as the bar seats were reserved. That's was new to us. We quickly ordered calamari & drinks. While the beer was good, the wine glass had at most 3 ounces. & when the calamari came, it was flavorful but tough. We bolted never to return.View more
This pub was such a charming & laid-back spot to relax, with such a cozy vibe. The staff were incredibly friendly, making us feel welcome, & the overall atmosphere was fantastic. Whether we were enjoying a drink or just soaking in the ambiance, it was the perfect place to unwind. We loved spending time there during our two nights in Montreal!View more

I went there tonight & I had oliver twist cocktail & I really liked it! It was strong but fruity & easy to drink (sour taste) & the price was good too! The vibe & the atmosphere were nice as well♡View more
A very nice restaurant. Food was delicious from the calamari to the mussels to the lobster & shrimp roll. Hope to dine here again before leaving back home. Outdoor seating & very good service. They also have parking. Good spot for food & drinks. Stays open late.View more
The place was very clean & well maintained. The staff were very friendly & quick. To drink I had the Oliver Twist which was delicious. For dinner I had the Duck Confit Poutine which was to die for. Come here for a delicious casual meal in Montreal.View more
Stumbled on this place to get cover from the stormy wet weather. Great place, good music, excellent service & enjoyed the light bites we ordered. Due to the location It's certainly not cheap & probably not 100% value for money, hence dropping a star - but I would still recommend if you are in the area & want a drink.View more
Very nice staff, just off work, also let us order two drinks, made our evening enjoyable!View more
Fantastic spot for a drink. Always busy, even on a Monday. Staff super friendly & just a nice atmosphere. I come here every year!View more
Their food is fantastic for a hang out bar. Went for preshow drinks, had their lobster roll, it was sizeable, the fries were crispy. Everyone else enjoyed their meal as well. It is a bit loud but we had a booth & we were able to talk. Probably want to make reservations if possible next timeView more
Overall, I had a pretty good experience at NYKS. Got seated quickly due to having a reservation. Problem we had was that our food order never went through which took double the time to get our food. They had been nice enough to give us the drinks on the house which was nice of them. The poutine wasn't great tbh. Had this burnt & sweet taste to it. The tartare was okay. The french onion soup was absolutely delicious!!!View more
What a wonderful meal & drinks. Tremendous food, great beer, thank you so much for making our night!View more
