This restaurant offers tapas in a fantastic fusion of Peruvian & Japanese cuisine, along with a delightful selection of cocktails.
We tried serveral small dishes & we particularly enjoyed the incredible mix of flavors of the Lomito Saltado. We also loved the attention to detail, like the adorable origami crane pinned to the Sakaya cocktail we ordered-it was not only a charming touch but also delicious!
For dessert, we had the'Suspiro Nikkei,' & it was nothing short of a revelation. The creative combination of dulce de leche & miso flavors wowed us.
The lively decor enhanced our experience, creating a vibrant atmosphere that was both inviting & fun. Furthermore, The service was friendly & efficient.Voir plus
This is one of my favorite place in Montreal. The fusion of japanese & peruvian is the most geniuses idea. The flavors go well all together. & Nikkei is portraying perfectly that! The place is cute & the menu is incredible! Their drinks too!Voir plus
Good atmosphere, but honestly the food was bad. Nothing like real Nikkei food & it was very salty. I did not taste any peruvian flavours.Voir plus
We had an amazing experience at Nikkei. I had my eye on this restaurant for a while because the idea of a Peruvian & Japanese fusion sounded so interesting. We walk in & the decor is gorgeous. We decided on the blind menu, & allowed our waitress to decide for us. From the first bite, we were amazed!! Very interesting flavours! Even the cocktails were unique & their presentations were beautiful. Our waitress Estelle gave us top quality service from the moment we stepped in. She gave us great recommendations & answered all our questions, so she really knew her stuff. We'll be back for sure! Well worth every penny!Voir plus
It was a very nice experience, the food was excellent, the rich variety of flavors was like a celebration of the Peruvian-Japanese identity. It really made me happy. I recommend the experience.Voir plus
A hidden gem in Montreal worth discovering. Beautifully created dishes inspired from Peruvian & Japanese cuisine. Unique dishes, great vibes, friendly service.Voir plus
I visited this Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant about three weeks ago & tried their "MTL à Table" discovery menu. The food was excellent-beautifully presented & full of flavor-but it is definitely on the pricier side compared to similar restaurants in Montreal offering comparable dishes. While I'd recommend it to friends for the unique fusion experience & quality of the food, I'm unsure if I'd return myself, considering the cost. It's worth a visit if you're looking to try something special & don't mind the splurge!Voir plus
The fusion between Japanese & Peruvian food was ok, it lacked seasoning, flavor. The dishes either were too sour or felt too spicy & the desserts felt store bought just so sweet. The cocktails did not have the right balance felt too sweet & the other one was watered down as there was too much ice. The service was slow at the beginning it felt that the kitchen staff & servers were a little overwhelmed, they were however very nice & apologetic. Towards the end it felt rushed with our two hour time limit & as they reminded us again even though we had not even had the dessert course. I would not recommend for an intimate date night however could be good for groups as you would have more time to eat & share multiple dishes.Voir plus
This restaurant was a great surprise! With a Japanese-Peruvian fusion speciality dishes, you can taste different flavors from tiradito & ceviche to curry. The drinks were also very good & the ambiance was perfect. The restaurant is a bit pricey, but the quality of the food compensate! Update: I just tried the special menu Mtl à table & it was delicious!Voir plus
An amazing menu of Peruvian & Japanese fusion. If you like ceviche, crudo & sashimi, you wont be disappointed. Cocktails are really good as well. The best Bloody Ceasar I've ever had is made here. Definitely give it a try. It does get busy in the evenings, so a reservation is your best way to guarantee a table.Voir plus
A beautiful discovery ! If you want extras to your first experience at Nikkei book the Chef counter ! I did an got a true Peruvian experience with the knowledge of the Chefs in front of you ❣️Voir plus
Very good restaurant the mix of Peruvian & Japanese is a nice discovery. The cocktails were also very good & unique & we had an amazing service. Thanks you!Voir plus
We tried this place for the first time & thought it'd be as good as Barranco (same owner) but we were greatly disappointed. We tried one of the ceviches which came with rice & found it wasn't going well altogether, & the portion was half of Barranco. The scallop in curry sauce was just ok, scallops weren't big considering the price. The lomo saltado meat was very tender, but sadly both latter dishes were served merely warm. They also don't have yuca fries on the menu which is a must for a Peruvian restaurant. Drinks are highly priced like other fancy restaurants. The service is however good & it's the reason it earns a better rating.Voir plus
Great ambience & cocktails, not great for Japanese or Peruvian food lovers.Voir plus
Nice place, great food. Together with Tiradito, best Peruvian cousine you can find in Montreal.Voir plus
"Coming from a country where gastronomy is number 1 in the world, I give the taste of the food a 4/5. Very good handling of flavors, fresh fish & ingredients, but the extravagance of the portions leaves something to be desired. It's understood that it's Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine, but that doesn't justify the disproportion between portion size & price. Plate-Price ratio 3/5. Very good service, friendly, 4/5. Parking is a nightmare (terrible), 1/5." "I'm not one of those people who use their cell phone all day, but this trend of putting the menu on QR codes is not friendly at all. The idea is to enjoy a lunch tête-à-tête with the other person, without the interruption of a phone. For what you pay, it wouldn't hurt to have printed menu impressions (we know menus change), but it should be mandatory."Voir plus
Went on an anniversary date with my wife. The ambiance & vibe was very nice & the food was flavourful, we can taste the fusion of Japanese & Peruvian cuisine.Voir plus
Nikkei MTL in Montreal's Plateau Mont-Royal is a delightful surprise for the culinary adventurer. During my visit, the cocktails immediately stood out for their innovative blends & stunning presentation, revealing a fearless creativity in mixology that's as rare as it is delightful. But the true star of the show is the food; Nikkei MTL's fusion of Japanese precision & Peruvian flair is executed to perfection. The quality of the fish is unparalleled, making each dish a taste of the extraordinary. This was my first encounter with such a fusion, & it was nothing short of revelatory, setting Nikkei MTL apart from more traditional dining experiences. The ambiance of the restaurant complements the exceptional dining experience. It's inviting & pleasantly atmospheric, striking the perfect balance between sophistication & comfort. Furthermore, the prices are surprisingly reasonable for the quality on offer, ensuring that guests can indulge in this unique culinary journey without reserve. A significant part of what makes Nikkei MTL so special, however, is the people. The waitstaff & bartenders exude friendliness & professionalism, contributing significantly to the overall experience with their attentive & knowledgeable service. In essence, Nikkei MTL is not just a meal; it's an exploration of culinary artistry, blending the best of Japanese & Peruvian cuisines in a setting that's as welcoming as it is innovative. It's a must-visit for those in Montreal seeking a dining experience that dares to be different, yet achieves perfection in its daring.Voir plus
Overall fun atmosphere & good food/drinks but not memorable & pretty expensive. Also, aside from the ramen dish, portions were smaller than other similar Peruvian/Japanese restaurants I've been to. We paid over $320 for 4 people (2 beers, 4 cocktails & 7-8 tapas). I recommend the ramen dish which was everyone's favorite.Voir plus
Fantastic original cocktails Food was a great fusion of Japanese & Peruvian flavours that worked really well together. Would recommend this restaurant purely based on the culinary experienceVoir plus
Charming Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant. Each of the dishes we ordered was delicious & at the same time, being fusion, allowed us to explore new flavors. We went at noon which allowed us to enjoy the restaurant at our leisure, chat & enjoy at our own pace. The service was good & on par with the food. I look forward to come backVoir plus
Nikkei has certainly delivered to the true Japanese tradition with Peruvian ingredients. The Aburi Nigiri with fillet mignon is sublime & we stopped at licking the plate. However our table manners went out the door when we finished the sashimi-style tiradito Nikkei & we could not resist slurping the leche de tigre left in the dish (trying to hide from the good looking afluent crowd which was as mixed as the food itself). The kumquat chilcano was the perfect drink to start with, & as Negroni has been my go-to apperitif since I had it in Italy many years ago, I had to try the Millonaire's Negroni.......WOW!!! This is without doubt my new favourite! How to describe it? Negroni on steroids that puts any negroni attempt to shame. It is like comparing a fiat500 & a ferrari.
We finish with the Sopa Sepia & the Ribu arequipeño.....here you need to forget you mom telling you DONT EAT with you fingers.... the ribs taste much better with you fingers...... then wash your hands, regain your posture & tell your neighbour at the chef counter they should try it too.Voir plus
Nikkei was a great experience overall! The tasting menu was scrumptious. Interesting fusion between Japanese & Peruvian cuisines. Cocktails are also amazing.Voir plus
Amazing japanese peruvian fusion cuisine! This is our second time at Nikkei, & the food, staff & ambience are top notch! Every bite is an explosion of flavour in our mouth! Truthfully food orgasm experience! Can't wait to return!Voir plus
If you can sit at the kitchen bar -do it, it's am incredible way to elevate an already exceptional experience. The food is amazing. If you are at all intrigued or curious about "Japanese Peruvian" do yourself a favor, go, order anything & you won't be disappointed. Don't skip dessert!
Simply incredible. My mom & I devoured 5 fabulous dish. First the Tron Shi-To de res, a beautiful fusion dish. Then came the tiradito Nikkei & causitas, both delicately scrumptious. But the tour de force was by far the last two dishes: Sopa Sepia & Ribu Arequipeño. The Sopa was rich & hearty, great udon & squid. My favorite was the ribs. Also, rich but not too dense sauce, perfectly spiced. We came quite hungry so maybe 5 dishes might be a bit much for a regular couple. Oh & the cocktails were killer too.
Nikkei means fusion, & they sure delivered. This food makes me proud of being Peruvian.
Loved the food. Really great way to combine Peruvian & Japanese flavors
The blend of Peruvian & Japanese cuisine is flawless. Every dish offers a peek into Peruvian culture & history delivered by passionate staff members. The drink menu marches in step with outstanding service & exotic mix of flavors with detail-oriented flavour pairings & clever plays on words.
It's a shame we can only give it five stars.
