Basically, it was ok. Some dishes were better than others. If you figure out which to order & which to avoid you'll probably enjoy your food.
It was a take out order so I can't comment on the service, but the person that took the order was nice enough.
My take on the dishes we ordered:
- Really enjoyed the samosas.
- The lababdar, chicken & paneer, were both tasty. The color was a bit weird, I'm used to a redder color (maybe it's a regional difference), but I still enjoyed it.
- The chicken tikka masala was not very good in my opinion. The texture & color felt more like tomato (spaghetti) sauce. I've had much better.
- I didn't taste the butter chicken, but no one at the table was raving about it, or complaining about it (take this as you want).
- The naan didn't seem fresh & had no ghee or butter on it. It wasn't bad, but I've had better.View more
This was the first time trying at NEW ROYAL INDIA. Went to try their Chicken Biriyani, ordered on the spot spicy, it was really good, presentation was fabulous with onions & lemon, chicken was tender & cooked perfectly & many blend of various spices. Atmosphere was very clean & most of all service was spot on A+++ they are very good people, hospitality was more than there. Thanks again guys, warm greetingsView more
This little hole in the wall has great food. I know that I gave it 4 stars for a reason. The Chettinad chicken was very tasty, the goat was excellent, my wife said, & the lamb melts in your mouth. The rice was undercooked & wet. This is why I gave it a 4 star. The young lady behind the counter was the owner's daughter, & she assisted me in picking the food. Never knew this place existed. Great find. I will definitely go back. We bought a lot of dishes but the price is good.View more
The food is DELICIOUS!! Went for a birthday party so we got to taste a few things from the menu- the samosas, the butter chicken, the paneer bites, incredible. The staff was super kind & friendly, I will definitely come back. Best Indian food I've had in Montreal yet- in terms of variety, taste, staff being so considerate.View more

Hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. I have had the opportunity to try this restaurant on two separate gatherings with friends. First of all, the staff & the owners are super friendly & accommodating. They closed down the restaurant just for our group to celebrate a birthday. The food was beyond delicious especially their crispy mushrooms, fish pakoras, & butter chicken. I hate daal, but I went for a second bowl here. It's Indian home-style cooking & in my opinion top 5 Indian restaurant in the city. Also, it's a BYOW restaurant.View more
It was my first time ordering & it's pretty good. High rating for price, quantity, temperature & freshness but the chicken tikka masala is too salty, in my opinion. The overall flavour is nice but the saltiness overpowers the spices a bit. Perfect amount of heat to the dish though & the chicken is very tender. I can't comment on service or atmosphere, as I haven't dined in yet but the packaging & food held up nicely during delivery. I will likely be ordering again in the very near future to try a few other dishes. There is plenty of variety on the menu so I will have to explore it!View more
By far the best Indian food in all of Montreal. It's reasonably priced & I've never been disappointed by anything on the menu. The Chicken Tikka is spicy but subtle & warm & deliberate. The rice is fluffy & as perfect as Basmatti can ever be cooked. The samosas are mildly greasy which is my only small gripe but the flavor makes you forget all about the extra greese. 100% recommendation from this professional chef. The people that gave bad reviews wouldn't know good Indian food from frozen pizza. Many are laughable in fact. People have no idea what goes into running a restaurant & creating delicious food they just expect it to appear magically. This family knows great Indian food & they will share that with you. Ignore the keyboard warriors & soft core wannabe critics. Trust your taste buds & try this place.View more
First thing, is the place has VERY odd decoration. It's almost like they are set up to host a wedding, in 1987. Also, they have hard plastic covers on the tables. These covers are not properly flat, but rather quite bumpy, so you have to be careful when you put a glass down, otherwise it will tip over. We showed up on a Friday evening at around 6pm & the place was completely empty. Food: Some things were good, others were really not. The goat curry had nice flavour, but it was very watery. The tandori chicken was not right. Not sure what the issue was, but it wasn't like any other tandori chicken I've ever had (& I've been to India several times). Naan didn't appear to be "real" naan. Based on the tandori chicken & the naan, I'm guessing they don't actually have a tandor. Mango lassi was the worst I've ever tasted. Service: Staff were generally friendly, but had earphones in all the time, even when serving us. Spent the rest of the time on their phones & never came back to see how the food was.View more
