The service is very slow! The food is good & the atmosphere is nice. But make sure you order everything you need because good luck getting service after your first order. For example, I've been a couple times now & Ive figured out where they store the salt & pepper shakers, so I just go & get it myself instead of waiting for service. They take forever to refill coffee.
We loved this Cafe so much we came back for breakfast again & again during our nine day stay in Montreal. Excellent staff, great music (not too loud) delicious food & really good coffee. Welcoming, airy & chilled atmosphere, just sorry that we never had time later in the day to enjoy their 25 dollar beer & burger offer. Hopefully we will try it on our next visit to Montreal.
As someone who lives in the neighborhood & has been a regular customer of this cafe, I've always appreciated its convenience & the generally friendly service. I'm currently on maternity leave & stop by at least once a week, either with a friend or a family member. It's been a small but enjoyable part of my weekly routine, until recently.
The last time I was walking by with my stroller, I stopped to ask the short brown-haired waitress outside if I could quickly order a coffee to go. Before I could even finish my sentence, she cut me off & told me she was too busy, & that I'd have to come inside with the stroller if I wanted anything. Her tone was dismissive, & the interaction felt unnecessarily cold.
What's frustrating is that I've never had an issue like this with any of the other staff members. Everyone else has always been incredibly warm, accommodating, & kind. Unfortunately, this particular waitress consistently lacks the same level of courtesy, & it stands out, especially in a place that's supposed to feel welcoming to locals.
I understand how difficult it can be to find & retain good staff, especially these days. But for a neighborhood cafe that likely depends on repeat customers like myself, I would expect a little more kindness & flexibility, especially toward a regular juggling a baby & a stroller.
This experience has genuinely made me reconsider whether I want to keep supporting this spot. A bit of empathy goes a long way, & it's a shame when that's missing.

Though I only had a coffee here I found the atmosphere to be quite pleasant & relaxing. The coffee was great as was the server. I hope to give it another go next time I'm in the area & try their food. 👍😎
Food is a bit overpriced in my opinion for the amount that you get, but it is good quality & tasty! :)
I was especially blown away by the mocha coffee I got! Definitely, in my top 3 best mochas I've gotten in my life. So if you're looking for a sweet tasting coffee drink, definitely give it a try!
I love this place. The Staff is cool, the place is cool, the coffee is delish & the hand made poterie cups make everything better. My only disappointment are some of the items on the menue. It's my second time ordering the monte cristo (mushroom) the the mushrooms are not fresh. There is an amoniac taste to them. The potatoes are somehow always too cooked & dry & not seasoned. I guess I'll have to eat something else next time :)

Incredibly relaxing place to stop for a coffee, beer or meal. I only had a cappuccino this time but I will definitely return to try their beer & food. Spacious dining area. Everything works at this cafe. Great service, menu & ambiance.
(updated) This is my favorite cafe/pub in the neighborhood. Great food. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, drinks are all great. Friendly staff, chill atmosphere, local products & fresh produce. Highly recommended.

Our favourite Cafe! Varied brunch menu, great coffee & friendly service. We brought our dog on the terrasse, & there is a park just across the road. Electric car charging right outside with high capacity chargers a short walk away.

March 2024: had the smoked salmon sandwich, was pretty good, just wish they had a bagel option. The fried chicken is kinda more schnitzel style, it was good. Funky coffee with choco rum & the mimosa were nice. Service was pleasant & efficient. Wish they offered their mushrooms as an optional side. December 2023: Great decor, friendly efficient service. Pumpkin spice sour was a pretty good mix of fall spices & whiskey.
A very cozy place with pleasant furniture & clean decor. It is spacious, so you do not feel squeezed between tables. No clutter & that allows the customer to enjoy the coziness. The beautiful lights (👍) are a great way to create an inviting environment, a fact neglected by many restaurants, eateries & coffee places in the city. The service was excellent & the food was truly delicious. The vegetarian burger had a perfect consistency (most of the time, veggie burgers are soggy or too dry). The fries flavoured with garlic were a delight & those who love spicy mayonnaise, you have it. The veggie tartare (beets) was nicely seasoned & balanced. The plain plates were a nice blue, allowing to showcase the colours of the dishes. The American IPA Les Trois Lettres, 6.5%, is an excellent IPA with a perfect amount of bitterness & earthy scents. Great experience! P.S. Just a tiny suggestion: some minimalist flower pots for some of the plants in the window would be a nice addition. 😊
It has a nice ambience but food was awful. I got El Pablo. Fried chicken wasn't eatable. It was too fried that became hard. Potato was the same. It looks like they just warm up a left over food. I though maybe because it was 2:30 pm & too late for brunch. Service wan't that good either. They forgot my request to re-fill my coffee & brought the bill.
Whenever I visit Montreal I come to Monk Cafe & absolutely love it. I come with friends, or to just sit & write while enjoying a coffee or cocktail. Aside from the delicious food & beautiful decor, the staff are so nice & welcoming which is the best part of all.
