We had a wonderful dinner tonight at Mondavie. The restaurant atmosphere was warm & lively. The jazz band was very entertaining. Server Rad was the best. He was fun, attentive & engaging. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Modavie in Old Montreal, & it was truly an experience to remember. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm, attentive service & the smooth sounds of live jazz filling the space, we ordered the Salmon Tatar, Caesar salad, the duck confit & rack of lamb, & every dishes were absolutely exceptional. The duck was rich & tender, with perfectly crispy skin , crunchy almonds & a beautifully balanced sauce that brought everything together. The rack of lamb was equally impressive - cooked to a perfect medium rare, juicy & full of flavor, with a herb crust that added just the right touch. We had the crème brûlée & tasted really nice! Modavie is a fantastic spot for a special night out - whether you're a local or just visiting Montreal like us, I'd highly recommend it. Great food, great service, & a unique atmosphere that brings everything together. We accidentally forgot & left our credit card on the table as we left Canada to New York. Amazing experience. Tyler was our fantastic waiter. Dinner & a show, the live music on Saturday night was top notch. The food was also some the of the best. I had the lamb cavatelli, it was so tender & flavorful. Definitely recommend giving this place a try, especially if you like music.Voir plus

They had accidentally given me potatoes instead of mashed potatoes, & when I asked to verify just so I won't be charged extra (it wasn't a big deal, honestly), they came back with a massive bowl of mashed potatoes & told me it was on the house. Seriously, could've have asked for better service.
The lamb I thought was a little too subtle on the flavours, but that's my personal taste, & I believe pretty much everyone else would've thought this was well seasoned (my friends tried it & thought it was really really good). Mashed potatoes, vegetables, & the potatoes were all very delicious.
The waiter also suggested me a red wine to go with the lamb that I've been trying to find, & have been failing to - I only remember hearing'Chateau', which didn't help me narrow it down when I got home. If you see this, Modavie, & any of your waiters somehow remember my wine from 22 Nov 2024, I would be forever in your debt (I probably should've asked earlier). We were also the group that sat in front of the band & ended up moving to a quieter part of the restaurant (which they did so happily - thank you so much).
Anyways, 10/10 would recommend, everyone should give this place a try. My friend's duck & steak were all incredibly delicious as well. Can't wait to come back when I visit Montreal again.Voir plus
Exactly what I was looking for in Old Montreal where it seems many restaurants have closed. The atmosphere here is perfect. Beautiful, dimly lit & easy to have a conversation while listening to live music & enjoying a perfectly prepared meal. I recommend the scallops appetizer with capers though we also enjoyed the seafood linguine with scallops-they were perfectly prepared in both dishes & while the tomato sauce was great, the appetizer's sauce will not be forgotten. The poutine (without lamb) with shoestring fries was also perfectly salty & tangy with more than enough small pieces of cheese curd. (This is a respectable poutine but one that isn't drowning in gravy like you might enjoy in many other restaurants-it has less guilt too!) I also enjoyed the salmon tartare but it had a much more subtle flavour than the other dishes. The service & atmosphere were wonderful. I would love to return.Voir plus

The atmosphere was absolutely charming-dim lighting, cozy yet elegant decor, & a live jazz band that elevated the entire experience. The music was simply superb, creating the perfect backdrop for a relaxed & enjoyable dinner.
As for the service, it was flawless from start to finish. The hostess welcomed us with a smile, the bartenders were friendly & skilled, & our server was attentive without being intrusive. Every interaction felt genuine & professional.
Now, let's talk about the food-miam! My friend & I started with the Caesar salad, which was fresh, crisp, & perfectly dressed. For the main course, we both indulged in the filet mignon, & it was absolutely divine-tender, juicy, & cooked to perfection. Every bite melted in our mouths, & the flavors were simply outstanding.

My boyfriend & I loved this restaurant. Their drinks were really creative & delicious. They were also reasonably priced. We had the French onion soup & snails as an appetizer, & then tried the duck & the lamb for our mains. Everything was delicious & fresh. I had the raspberry sorbet as a dessert & my boyfriend had a chocolate mousse cake. The service was good & our server even took the time to write a list of other restaurants he recommended in downtown & old Montreal for us to visit during our trip. My husband & I came here on the recommendation of our walking tour guide & we're so glad we did! I had the salad niçoise & my husband had the onion soup & a small Caesar salad. Made reservations for Friday night & was totally worth it. The live music was amazing & a nice add to the vibe without being too much. The staff were extremely friendly & great. The food was classic French bistro. Got the escargot, sweet bread, & beef tartare & all were excellent. They've always got a seasonal pasta, fish & butcher cut for some variety. I do not recommend coming to this restaurant because it was a huge disappointment for us. We had a reso but the restaurant was not busy at all, with many empty tables inside. Our server greeted us & we placed both a drink & food order. My mom got her coffee right away but I think the server forgot my wine. I sat & waited for 30 minutes before I got impatient & tried to flag the server down. When we finally got our food, which also took a really long time, it was mediocre. We ordered the mussels & fries & when the guy who delivered it opened the cover of the bowl, a mussel fell onto my mom's foot. The fries were also cold & soggy. The grilled octopus was okay. It was also cold & for the price I thought it would be a bigger portion. In total we spent over $100 cdn & it was not worth the money to me.Voir plus
My friends & I were celebrating my friend's Bachelor Party/Trip on labour day weekend in Montreal, & I insisted that we get authentic French cuisine seeing as how we came all the way from Toronto. Modavie exceeded every expectation everyone had. The Atmosphere was very pleasing, with low noise volumes that I found quite nice as loud environments tend to make me uncomfortable, along with the decor & lighting being very well done. The service by Quentin was absolutely exceptional, making us feel quite at home & being attentive to our needs. He suggested another establishment for an evening drink as our reservation ended & the resturaunt was full & we found our way there based on his description. The food itself was absolutely out of this dimension. Never before have I tasted anything as refined as the bone marrow, garlic snails & duck confit. The flavors of each dish were lovingly curated like a selection of the finest paintings at the Louvre. The creme brulee was the perfect dessert to finish with, with its thick, stain glass worthy shell & it's decadent, eye widening pudding. Amazing experience! We had a great time with a party of 6. Most of us had a dish with lamb, as we were told it was their specialty, & they certainly delivered! Several of us usually don't even like lamb, but Modavie converted us. Our waitress, Eman (sp?) was so lovely & made the night so enjoyable, giving us details about the wine we ordered & just being so personable & kind. We were in a room next to where the band was playing so the noise level was perfect. I would recommend asking for a table outside of the room the band is playing in if you are hoping for conversation because you can still hear, just not as loudly. I won't lie, when we walked in with two toddlers we got the look from the host. (Parents know the look.) So I was leery. But we were there by 4:15 so it felt like an ok time to bring them in. & things turned around quickly when we got a table & food. I can honestly say the best (mushroom) risotto I've ever had. Salmon tartare & cheese tray were a hit for the whole family, including the one year old. & appreciated the effort put into the mocktaiks. Really fun. The lamb - which the waitress said they were known for - was probably our least favorite item. That's not to say it wasn't good. But i think we should have sent it back to get it to medium. Rare was...just too rare. One other fun note - the music playlist. This isn't something I really ever notice but we kept commenting how great it was & it set the right vibe.
