It's my 4th or 5th time here & every single time before was great, which is why I keep coming back when I'm in town. As I came myself, the hostess brought me to a table & I had asked if I could sit in the corner at the booth, she hesitated & gave a very uninterested "its reserved". Its 9pm on a cold Sunday evening, not only that, she proceeded to put me in the dead center of that dining area, as if she was offended that I had even dared to ask. I watched & the same happened to another couple that came in after me. The server (I believe his name is Patrice) was awesome & the food (Salmon Tartare & Lamb Rack) was fabulous as usual. By the time I left at 10pm it was still empty as expected, & diners were filing out of the restaurant on the cold evening.Voir plus
I loved everything about this place! Initially due to the road construction we didn't find the entrance but we are grateful we finally found it. We had the pesto gnocchi & mushroom risotto. Both were top notch. We had the lamb embellishment & will recommend it. I am thankful to our server for suggesting it. All the cocktails are yummy. We tried the mirage & cinnamon one. The music & ambience was top notch. Made a Thursday night feel like a weekend. Will be back for the creme brulee!Voir plus
My friend & I decided to have dinner at this place due to the high ratings on Google. Now, after analyzing all the reviews, I realized they must be fake, since some of the images are repetitive. Everyone was raving about the food! First, the good things - the service was indeed excellent; our server was attentive & timely, & the hostess was accommodating, seating us upstairs so we could be a part of a jazz performance. We sat down & ordered our drinks, which were great! Then, we ordered bone marrow, foie gras, & scallops as appetizers. All of them were warm & tasted mediocre. Particularly, the foie gras came on top of a piece of bread, which was soaking through in fat. I understand that foie gras is very fatty, yet I was expecting the bread to provide a balancing bite, but it was so overpowering, I could not eat it. For the main course, we ordered lamb, which was highly recommended by other diners on Google (turns out they were fake reviews), & fries. The fries were soggy, & the lamb dish came out cold with all the soggy, sad-looking vegetables. I just could not eat it & asked our server to reheat it, which he did & I ate it afterwards. Initially, we wanted to have dessert, but after such a terrible food experience, we couldn't wait to go somewhere else instead! I don't know, maybe they were busy, & we had bad luck, yet the entire restaurant wasn't full. We won't be returning!Voir plus
Amazing dinner. Went here spontaneously on a Saturday at 7:30pm without a reservation with my boyfriend. Was sat immediately at the bar as all tables were reserved (totally get it, love sitting at the bar). The bartender was attentive & very talented as the cocktails we got were both superb. We ordered the snails as an app, I got the duck confit, & he got the lamb chops. We were given extra bread for the snail butter without asking. Waters always refilled. Meats cooked perfect. Live music was to die for. Got double espressos, crème brûlée, & profiteroles for dessert which were equally delicious. If I lived here I think I'd go every week.Voir plus
We traveled to Montreal for the 2024 total eclipse & afterward headed to dine at Modavie . Upon arrival, we were surprised to learn that our dining time was limited to 2 hours-a unexpected limitation. Our server, Stephan, was outstanding, entertaining us with jokes & offering great recommendations. While the wine & some of the dishes were enjoyable, the Nicoise salad was disappointing-overly oily & lacking expected flavors like anchovies or dejon mustard. Also, the Lamb Cavatelli was well made but boring. Lastly, the Fondant au Chocolat was overly sweet & lacked complexity, tasting more like a store-bought brownie than a freshly made dessert crafted by a pastry chef. Overall, our experience was underwhelming, & we don't plan to return. The price for two was above average.Voir plus
The restaurant is beautiful with a nice ambiance. Our waiter, Tyler, was super nice & professional. However I had the salmon tartare & I was very disappointing. I usually love tartare but this one was unfortunately tasteless. My friend had the lamb pasta however & it was delicious so I will probably go again to try something else! Some work on the cleanliness of the bathrooms could also be done, it was dirty & smelly. It wasn't my best dine in experience but I will keep an open mind & try it again for sure. Nice restaurant. The atmosphere is bustling. The service was good. Waiter was studious, but not very attentive. Staff to customer ratio may be the reason. The food was good. The rack of lamb was a little bit gamey. The desserts were phenomenal! We ordered the bone marrow appetizer, beef tartare, steak & fries, 2 kids menu (pasta & chicken nuggets), & the rack of lamb. Lovely restaurant in Old Montréal with live music from 7PM & a selection of lamb on the menu. The poutine was delicious & worth the added cost for the braised lamb. I was hoping to try the lamb pappardelle mentioned by other reviewers but it appears they've switched to cavatelli, which was cooked perfectly so no regrets! The only downside was that the lamb cavatelli was too rich & oily for my preference, otherwise would also highly recommend this. The lamb chops were decent, nothing spectacular. From the moment we walked in & were greeted by Lorenzo we had an excellent experience. The vibe is great the staff is witty & happy. We came for Easter brunch. We stumbled upon it & so glad that we did! The snails & beef tartare were wonderful as was the crème brûlée. They're known for lamb, but we opted on steak, which was good, not great. This was one of the best meals I've had in Montreal, hands down. We had booked another place but decided to cancel last minute & came across Modavie & was intrigued by the menu. We were able to book a table for 5:30pm & so glad we did. We were one of the first tables in & our server, Jessica was absolutely amazing. She was attentive, recommended dishes that she vouched for (ex sweetbread) & a wine (Cotes du Rhone, Le Caillou Rouge) that paired well with our meal. We had never had sweetbread before, & trust me it's not what you think. It's a part of the lamb & if not cooked well, can taste gamey. But Modavie is known for their lamb dishes & the sweetbread was fabulous. We also ordered the lamb chops & it was cooked to perfection. It wasn't over-seasoned, had amazing grill flavour & was so tender. & of course, not gamey at all. We also tried their risotto, French onion soup, & escargots. Oh & the basket of bread. Wow. It was so fresh, so hot that I couldn't stop eating it. The only reason I didn't give'Atmosphere' a 5-star is because we did feel a bit squished in the corner, but understand that most places are like this. This was definitely a meal to remember & Modavie is now on my list of must go-to when in Montreal.Voir plus

The vibes here were amazing, super elegant yet homey & cozy. Everyday they have an accompaniment for music & the day we went had jazz playing while we were eating. The apps (escargot & soup) were 🤌- both were not your standard snails or french onion soup. The soup had an extremely rich flavour shine through that came from the deep caramelization of the onions. The accompanying garlic butter & cheese that was paired with the escargot was salty which was good. Onto the mains, the table favourite was the duck confit. The duck was so tender & when paired with the sweetness of the walnuts & the acid from the pickled cabbage, it made a wonderful bite. The lamb chops were great as well, the meat was cooked to our liking. We do wish there was a sauce to accompany the lamb, perhaps a sweet red wine sauce to cut through the saltiness of the veggies & enhance the lamb taste. As an aside, the potatoes were delicious LOL. The lamb pasta was amazing as well, flavour-wise. We wish there would have been more lamb in the pasta as the portion of meat felt lacklustre. The pasta was perfectly cooked & held onto the sauce very well. Lastly, the drinks were delicious- perfectly balanced between sweet & tangy. The service here was phenomenal, they consistently checked up on us & made sure we were well taken care of. Overall, the restaurant was a great experience in MTL, a good place to go to if you're in the area & are looking for a more expensive dinner.Voir plus
I came here with my wife & two daughters (7 & 9) for dinner on a cold February evening. Our hotel had recommended this place. Lorenzo completely hooked us up with one of the best tables in the house, right in front of the live jazz band, it was perfect. The waitstaff was attentive & the food excellent. Whenever we visit Montreal from Upstate NY, it's tradition to have our first dinner of the trip at Modavie! The atmosphere is amazing, the food is always wonderful & the service is top-notch. Tonight our server was George & he was so kind & accommodating - we had our two sons with us (9 & 12) & they felt right at home. Our table had the lamb, steak & frites, scallops & seasonal pasta. 10/10 brunch experience!!! (June 2022) Very quaint atmosphere, delicious food, affordable prices & outstanding ambiance. Particularly enjoyed the jazz music at brunch which was a delight. I had the eggs benedict with lamb, creme brulee for dessert. My friend had the breakfast poutine. Came for dinner May 2023 - duck confit was delicious & so was the creme brulee. A thousand thank you to Yan for the great service & his patience & of course the whole team behind the scene for making my birthday so easy & accommodating! From the communication through emails days prior the big day to the actual day, everything went smoothly. The food was great, I had the onion soup, the lamb chop (a tad bit too cooked for my taste but we were also a big group of 14 so I understand) with a side of smashed potatoes, the crème brûlée (DELICOUS by the way) & a mocktail mojito (also delicious). I wish there was a 10 star rating. This place exceeded our expectations by far. The service, the drinks, the food, the entertainment were all amazing. Our bartender Sal made the best dirty martini. Lorenzo...well he took care of us like we were family! We dined upstairs & Tyler was our server. Again...another top notch employee of Modavie. Overall a very positive experience here. Staff were incredibly kind & attentive. Live music & a beautiful interior lead to atmosphere that is very enjoyable. We ate from the MTL'restaurant week', & everything was fantastic -- except for my lamb. 4 large bone-in pieces on my plate that were barely edible. The waiter was kind enough to heed our odd request to split the bill across 4 credit cards. I never felt like we were waiting for the staff.
