Modavie is a timeless place that brings us back to our roots, where ladies & gents gather and eat in a lively atmosphere caused by great conversation, live music and the wooden scents of a vintage room. Born in 1997, it quickly became popular among locals & visitors, and is now considered a Montreal institution.
Treat yourself to refined French fare in an antique & dimmed corner locale spawning two floors. From the classic beef tartare, to tasty sweetbread, to the famous ratatouille, your cravings will be easily satiated.

Liked the salmon, loved the live band, but steak, lamb & pasta is not good at all! You're paying for the atmosphere the food does not match.View more
A bit of online searching led me to Modavie, & it did not disappoint. Comfortable atmosphere, pleasant live music, & excellent food. Two of us had lamb chops: superb! One had the Butcher's Cut (du jour) which was Quail: even better!! & perfect portions, well-presented without overdoing the art. Desserts were also excellent. Best food I've eaten in months.View more
The food was AMAZING, as were the vibes. The live music was great, & not too loud. I had the lamb cavatelli which I can't recommend highly enough. Truly enjoyed my time there!View more
I had the pleasure of dining at this delightful establishment this summer. I commenced my meal with a delectable beef tartare appetizer, followed by a succulent lamb main course. The ambiance was further enhanced by the presence of a live jazz band. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking an exceptional dining experience.View more
One of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time. Service was quick, attentive, & very friendly. Food was definitely worth the price, & was the highlight of a beautiful evening at the Old Port. The decor was wonderful & clean, & the live music was a welcome accompaniment to our meal. We ordered the escargot, rack of lamb, the sea bream (catch of the day), & the seafood linguine. From the mains to the sides, all of it went beyond our expectations. My father especially loved the lamb, it was of a quality very rarely found in restaurants, & cooked perfectly according to our specifications; the sauce was also very good, extravagant in elevating the meat & its pairings. All the seafood was also wonderfully fresh, & the quality of the pasta brought it to the next level. Will likely look to come again if we ever return to Montreal.View more
Service was amazing she started us off with nice words & was attentive to our needs, & ended it off by wishing us a good night. The whole restaurant seemed to match a cozy & tight style. The live music here was very good, but a little bit too loud for tables 1-3 tables away from them. The food was also good, but did not live up to my expectations. The lamb was just your average lamb, & the bone marrow was very sour. However, the pasta was the opposite of the rest. It exceeded my expectations & was very creamy while having some flavourful ground beef!View more
Classic French cuisine with a wonderful atmosphere. The staff is extremely professional & will happily guide you through the menu. We started with the escargot & moved on to the poutine with braised lamb & duck confit for our main course. Highly recommend all 3! There was live music & overall a great atmosphere.View more
Visited for the first time. Quality of food was very good (the lamb with the poutine was delicious) but if you have gluten allergies check twice. I had ordered beef tartare. They brought bread in my food despite reviewing everything about my celiac before ordering. So I asked if the bread was gluten free. They brought back the plate & quickly returned with bread replaced with lettuce. I had to check again if they replated or not & they had to check with kitchen. I ate the food but all the time was thinking if I should have trusted them or not. Nothing happened afterwards but it just wasn't a pleasant experience.View more
Great place to enjoy some solid French food & listen to music. The moules-frites were cooked perfectly with a wonderful broth that paired nicely with the bread to dip. The charcuterie board was a pleasant surprise with the variety & taste. We split this with 4 people. & the lamb burger was a good choice.View more
Lamb cavatelli was fabulous. Linguini with shrimp & scallops was not bad by any means, just banal & I could honestly do better at home. Salmon was good. Seasonal vegetable side for $7 was ridiculously small once I have coughed up $30-40 for a meal with half a serving of veg. Sorry. Live jazz was stupidly loud in the one room Nad we moved before we sat.View more
Nice room. Lively. Lamb chops excellent. Also ordered fish special which was Lake Trout. Was served the Salmon BUT it looked delicious so I dived right in! Delicious! Plus, saved $2 as the Trout on my bill was less than the Salmon I was served! 😆View more
Amazing place, one of my favourite go to places in Montreal. If I had the chance again, I would definitely have this on my list of possible places. It had tender & beautiful lamb of which I ordered today. It was deliciously cooked, a beautiful gravy, potatoes, & a once in a lifetime meal.View more
We came here recently & had a great time overall. It's a nice place down in Old Montreal to grab a bite or have some drinks. The restaurant has a nice vibe & they had a live band playing that night which was pretty cool. The service was very good considering it does get quite busy here at times so I'd highly recommend getting a reservation. The Food was above average as well. Some items on the appetizers could've been a bit better but the main courses were top notch. The Lamb was probably one of the best I've ever tried & the Filet Minion was exceptional as well. The Cocktails were all really good & the dessert was enjoyable too. I'd definitely recommend to give this place a try as I'm sure I will return again myself whenever I visit again.View more
Just enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Modavie. Despite the fact that it was a holiday (unbeknownst to us), they graciously accepted us as guests without a reservation. There was live entertainment upstairs which we enjoyed immensely. We started with onion soup. Although it was not what we anticipated, it was still delicious & flavorful. They are known for their lamb dishes, so we had the lamb chop dinner with seasonal veggies & the rack of lamb. Both enhanced with a side of foie gras. The lamb dishes were cooked to order "saignant." Both were seasoned perfectly. The rack of lamb came with a sauce that really set off the flavor of the beef ! Service was attentive & friendly. This restaurant is a 5/5 rating in service, food & ambiance. Although not inexpensive, considering the USD to Canadian dollar exchange rate, it was actually very reasonable when you consider all things put together. So yes, I highly recommend trying Modavie when you visit old Montreal - you won't be disappointed !View more
Great place for French food & live music. The rack of lamb was some of the best I've had at a restaurant & our server was very helpful on helping us pick out our wine, appetizer & desserts. Will be back!View more
A lovely restaurant in the old part of Montreal. Excellent service & food. The go to place for lamb dishes.View more
We had an amazing meal at Modavie. Our server, George, gave us great suggestions from the wine to main dishes to desserts. Everything was on point. He was very attentive & friendly. Go for the lamb chops. They are to die for! My son has the mussels & my husband had the duck- both superb. In addition, there's live music which gives the experience a nice touch. We wanted to have a great French meal & Modavie did not disappoint. ❤️❤️❤️View more
This restaurant is my favourite in Montreal. I had the pleasure to visit yesterday & today. For appetizers I highly recommend the French onion soup & sweet bread. My friend said the escargot was the best it contained the perfect seasoning balance. The lamb chops are amazing & so is the duck confit. Every cocktail I tried was delicious. Don't forget to get the crème brûlée. The server was meticulous & Lorenzo took great care of us, what a gem of a person! I will definitely be back when we visit Montreal next!View more
Amazing food & really love the decor, there's also live music Friday evening. Great service & friendly staff, food came relatively quick. My favourite is the lamb chop & mushroom risotto!View more
the live music is fun, the service is personable which makes you feel welcomed & comfortable. The food didn't disappoint either, they make a great rack of lamb.View more
Lorenzo's excellent service turned a great brunch into a phenomenal experience to be remembered. I recommend the duck waffles or the braised lamb. The live music is enjoyable & the ambience is very rustic yet cozy. Thank you again to Lorenzo & the team who took care of us today.View more
Great place to eat ,atmosphere has good vibes & Lorenzo was a pleasure to meet with my sisters. He had a great sense of humour. Thank you for being a highlight to our first visit in Montreal. We will definitely be back 😊 I got the lamb cavatelli it was so delicious.View more
Amazing food, service & ambiance. We had the snails followed by the lamb chops & mushroom risotto. Everything was delicious. Creme brûlée for dessert was also amazing. Cocktails were great, mirage was delicious - only critique would be that they could offer more wines by the glass. But the ones offered were enough to pair with the meal.View more
Nestled in the heart of Old Port, Modavie stands out as a culinary beacon, even if you have to navigate through some construction to get there. The diverse menu caters to a variety of tastes, ensuring there's something for everyone. I had the pleasure of trying the Lamb Cavatelli, & it was a delightful fusion of tender lamb & perfectly cooked pasta that danced on my palate. The live music added an extra layer of charm to the experience, enhancing the already cozy ambiance. It's not just about the food at Modavie; it's about the entire experience. The service was impeccable - attentive & timely, without being intrusive. It's clear that Modavie values its customers & understands the essence of hospitality. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Modavie is a must-visit spot in Montreal's Old Port. Don't let a little construction keep you from this fantastic dining experience! :PView more
Friendly stuff. We arrived & they told us the kitchen closes in 30 minutes. Food came promptly & delicious. Crème brûlée had a crunchy top & sweet no stinky egg smell. Fois a gras was whole not past. Lamb chops were tender & well seasoned. They had live jazz but it was over when we got there. Parking is difficult at this time because the city has the whole street dug up even Uber couldn't drop us in front of the door. we had to walk then change sidewalks so we weren't sure if it's open or not but we got closer we saw like a bridge over construction to get to the door.View more
Great food. I recommend the lamb burguer, the mushroom risotto & the pesto gnocchi. The service by Lorenzo was outstanding.View more
Bone marrow too acidic, lamb good, too expensive.View more
One of our favorite places in Montreal & some of the best food hands down. We went twice & both times had the lamb pasta because it was THAT good - we also had the steak frites, French onion soup, Caesar salad, crème brûlée, & seasonal sorbet - all excellent as well & the drinks were very good. Very cute atmosphere with live music at night. Staff were so friendly & welcoming - we went to maybe 12-15 restaurants throughout our trip & none came close to Modavie.View more
