Moccione centers its culinary philosophy on the rigorous preparation of artisanal Italian pasta and traditional techniques that define authentic regional flavors. Every dish emphasizes seasonal ingredients sourced to highlight the natural profile of each component while maintaining a focus on structural simplicity. The kitchen prioritizes the mechanical craft of dough production to ensure consistent textures in every serving of ravioli and tagliatelle. These preparations rely on minimal intervention to allow the quality of flour and eggs to remain the primary sensory focal point. A concise menu strategy facilitates a rotating selection of plates that mirror the current harvest availability across local suppliers. Patrons encounter a methodical approach to Mediterranean cooking where technical precision dictates the outcome of every bowl served within this specialized culinary space.
Moccione is widely regarded as a standout destination in Montreal, celebrated for its authentic and refined Italian cuisine, particularly its exceptional fresh pasta and standout seafood dishes like the octopus, crudo, and trout tartare. Many diners praise the warm, vibrant atmosphere and the professional, welcoming service that contributes to a memorable culinary experience. While the majority of reviews are glowing and highlight the restaurant as a top-tier choice for fresh ingredients and inventive flavors, a few visitors have noted inconsistencies in portion sizes, occasional service lapses, or isolated issues with dish temperature and preparation. Overall, the establishment maintains a strong reputation for high quality, with many patrons eager to return for the well-curated wine selection and consistently impressive seasonal menu.
I had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant & was looking forward to trying it. There were definitely some positives - a few dishes were very good, & the younger staff members were friendly & welcoming throughout the evening.
Unfortunately, the experience was let down by a couple of issues. The cod pasta was highly recommended to us, & we were even told we were lucky there was still some left. Sadly, it ended up being the biggest disappointment of the meal. I did not enjoy it at all & felt sick throughout the night & into the next morning afterward.
The other issue was with service from an older staff member. At one point, she came to remove a plate that we were still eating. When we politely told her we weren't finished, she gave us a dirty look that felt unnecessary & made the interaction uncomfortable.
I can see why people enjoy this place, as there were some good dishes & the younger staff were great. However, between the cod pasta & the service issue, this visit fell well short of expectations. I'm not sure I would return.
Unassuming , comforting & just delicious food. Combination of flavors in the artichoke & Mozarella Di Bufalla appetizers were wonderful. Pasta dishes were all so fresh & satisfying. We will return undoubtedly .
Incredible pasta & delicious Italian dishes, we tried the gnocchi, the tonarelli, a couple entrees & the beef with vermouth sauce & all of it was amazing, the staff was nice & kind with excellent recommendations on food & wine, overall an amazing evening & will definitely be back!
High quality small plates at reasonable prices & paired with excellent service. We tried most of the appetizers & a few main dishes. Our favorites & the ones we would definitely recommend were the crudo, trout tartare, calamari & octopus (& lots of bread, of course).
That said, some dishes were less impressive. The desserts felt lacklustre (cannoli & baba tiramisu) & we didn't enjoy the beef pasta or the cheese arancini.
Overall, a solid experience with standout seafood dishes, though not every item on the menu hit the same level.
Moccione delivers one of those rare experiences where everything feels effortless & magical. The service was absolutely impeccable-warm, attentive, & genuinely passionate about what they do. The food? Simply extraordinary. Every plate was balanced, comforting, & executed with the kind of precision that only comes from real craftsmanship.
The wine selection was perfectly curated, each glass elevating the dishes like a well-rehearsed duet. & the atmosphere… it's pure charm. Cozy, vibrant, & intimate without ever feeling crowded. It felt less like a dinner & more like stepping into a modern Italian fairy tale-one you never want to end.
Highly, highly recommended. One of the best dining experiences in the city.
The food was truly authentic & full of flavor, every dish we tried was top class & clearly made with care.
However, the experience fell a little short on the personal side. We were celebrating our anniversary & had chosen this restaurant for our special day, but unfortunately, there wasn't any acknowledgment or gesture to make the evening feel memorable.
We ordered a bottle of wine & would have really appreciated a small touch, even a simple greeting or a sweet gesture, to make the occasion feel special.
At a charming neighborhood restaurant, especially one recognized in the Michelin Guide & with dishes at a higher price point, that kind of personal touch is something you expect & look forward to.
Overall, the food was excellent, but a bit more attention to the guest experience would have made it truly unforgettable.
If you love inventive Italian dishes, love fresh hand made pasta, love cocktails & are looking for the cozy, warm, lively spot for date night - then stop scrolling & reserve here! ☺?
Pasta is the star here. Outstanding service & food, well suited for either a date or dinner with friends. 1 appetizer + 1 main dish is plenty of food for 1 person, & all dishes can be easily shared. It's a bit on the cozy / casual side & it wears its atmosphere really well, but do not expect the chic quietness of an upscale French restaurant.
