I have been there about 4 times now, it's often a hit or miss, depends on the day. The food is tasty enough however the fries air on the salty side but are crispy & thin if you like that, steak came out burnt on the outside 2 out 4 times however the sauce is heavenly, the profiterole was also burnt once on the bottom, oysters are very small compared to other restaurants so not really worth the price.
Service is quite slow. It took three & half hours with a reservation for the 3 course host table, yet there were not busy as there was only 2 people at a table that already had their dishes when I came & one person at the bar.View more
Got the $50 deal with soup or salad, steak & fries, & a dessert. Wife liked the salad, I liked the carrot/turnip soup , steaks cooked perfectly & fries were great. Curious about their poutine…View more
it was okay & that's all. food was ok service was meh, the boeuf tartare clearly not very fresh since they put so much toppings, plus you HAVE to grab a drink for each 12 1$ oysters you have. i don't like having sugar & mostly only drink water. even tho we grabbed food, had to order drinks to have the oysters. if you know anything about food & restauration, you know this is a tourist scam mid restaurant. wouldn't pay to eat here again. fries were delicious tho, tasted just like mcdonald's lolView more
Great mignon steak, very soft & tender, great sauce, surprisingly the fries were much better then I thought. Very flavourful. The machine & cheese is very nice to try. Would recommend to come with a group. The basement is the Negroni lounge. Very comfortable seating, nice atmosphere 👌 no photo of the steak cause it's too good to leave anything left 😀 ordered a martini too. Very nicely done.View more
We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday here, & the food, server, & ambiance did not disappoint. We were seated in the lower level which had a dim-lighting, cozy vibe. We ordered the table d'hôte which included soup/salad, steak & fries, & dessert. Absolutely delicious & worth it! Our server Antoine was attentive & regularly checked in with us. A good place to check out & eat in Old Montreal.View more
Absolutely amazing time at this place. Our waiter was lively & informative, the atmosphere was welcoming but not boring, & the food was delicious.
The sweet potato soup is definitely on my top 5 list of best soups. Real cream was used, & that's a sign of a good soup.
The cream puff for dessert was was like creamy air covered in decadent chocolate. Worth the table d'hote just for this.
Now for the one negative thing I have to say about here. While my steak was cooked to perfection & flavourful, I am not used to having McCain style fries with a higher end steak frites. Especially in Montreal of all places, you would expect fresh fries? But maybe that's just me.
Worth a visit, & I will definitely go back. Especially after trying my friend's rack of lamb.View more
I had a great experience at Mignon Steak Vieux-Montréal, overall. The service was attentive, & the atmosphere was on point. We sat in the Negroni Room, which was cozy with low lighting & great music. The food was enjoyable, for the most part. The onion soup was solid, & the mac & cheese stood out-it was cheesy & had a nice crunch from the breadcrumbs, which made it a little different from the usual versions I've had. Also had green peas. Definitely worth trying. As for the steak frites, the sirloin cut was tasty, but I'd recommend asking for the sauce on the side. While the sauce was flavorful, it completely covered the steak & masked its natural taste. The fries were a fun surprise-they were almost identical to McDonald's fries in both smell & taste, which I actually thought was kind of cool. That said, the biggest letdown was the steak being served cold. It's such a shame because steak is always best sizzling, & you'd expect that at a restaurant like this. It threw off the dish for me a bit, which was disappointing. All in all, the service, food, & vibes made it a good spot to visit. A little more attention to the details would make it even better.View more
My wife & I had dinner at Mignon Steak Vieux-Montréal, & unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. Despite making a reservation at a steakhouse, we were bizarrely asked if we were vegetarians upon arrival. This felt out of place & left us wondering why that was necessary information when we'd clearly chosen a steakhouse. The service continued to disappoint. When we asked for salt for our fries, the waiter condescendingly asked if we had tasted them first - incredibly patronizing. We also ordered a side of mushrooms & onions, which was forgotten & only brought out well after our meals had been served. As a result, I had to watch my dinner get cold while waiting for the side dish. Adding insult to injury, we couldn't help but notice that the waiter was far more attentive to the table next to us, frequently checking on them & ensuring their dishes arrived in the order they preferred. This stark contrast in service made our experience even more frustrating. Though we were offered a free dessert as compensation, we declined, expecting that the mishandled side dish would be removed from our bill in lieu of the dessert. Unfortunately, it wasn't, which was a disappointing end to an already subpar dining experience. The entire evening felt condescending & strange, & we left feeling very unimpressed. We would not recommend this restaurant to others based on our experience.View more
The place is really nice, the vibe, the music it was on point. Staff were super friendly & helpful. Food was good but not the greatest, my steak was a little overcooked, good flavour, the sauce is the star there. Fries were really nice specially with the steak sauce. I upgraded to be half salad half fries, not worth it. It ended up being 2 pieces of lettuce like you see in the picture. I got the Crème brûlée for dessert, the flavour & presentation were good, the crust on top needed more sugar for that classic initial crack. Food needs to improve a notch to align with the place & price you pay.View more
Lovely space, great atmosphere, sensational soundtrack, very gentle servers, delicious food. Finally I could have good french fries (I'm very particular about it). The meat was perfect!!!!View more
went with my family (4) for a graduation & heard a lot of good things about the steak frite so we wanted to try it out. We waited an hour for our food & when it was served, the steak was cold. The quality was below mediocre. Everything was kinda cold except for the fries. Felt as though everyone around was already getting their orders served within 20 minutes (people who came in after us) & we patiently waited for ours & we were dissatisfied. Nothing special to note except the fries. To note as well, the service was quite frankly not that good. Even though we waited for a long time, our server never came up to us to ask how we were doing & didn't come to tell us that our food would take some time. Hardly any friendly service compared to what customers were receiving. Could not properly enjoy our time at all. Finished our food within an hour & left.View more
Came here for 5a7 dollar oysters but stayed for the fries. Very forgettable oysters that were the size of nickels. The oysters came dry without any of their brine water. The highlight was the skinny fries that were perfectly fried; crispy snap with a soft interioView more
Herminie's service was great, she was very sweet! The food was to die for, I swear my friends & I were scrapping the plates with their fries... which were perfect by the way. Don't hesitate & have a seat at one of their tables 👌 Oh & order the soup! It's at least as good as the fries.View more
1st time experience. Perfectly satisfying dinner. Everything was delicious. The Canadian beef was cooked to a nice medium rare, the fries were light & crispy. Salmon tartare was very refreshing, with a lot of textures & pops of horseradish. The atmosphere was very "mignon".View more
Accidentally found this gem in Montreal. I was interested in Steak Frittes so decided to pay it a visit. They have oysters special from 5-7pm so we got that for a starter. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. The fries & the signature sauce were delicious. Friendly & helpful staff & amazingly cozy & relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful music. Great selection of wines & cocktails. Loved the place. Looking forward to coming back again next time I visit Montreal. Thank you for your hospitality.View more
