Food was fantastic, Great service & quite a good atmosphere. My steak tasted great & if I could go back to the restaurant I would definitely get the steak again. Fantastic Experience.
We went there for a family lunch of 6 + a baby. We didn't know that some pieces of meats were only available for dinner but it was well explained by the waiter. We had flank steaks, filet mignon & ribs. All tasted good but we had to wait for 20 minutes for the filet mignon whereas the flank steaks were served in no time. They shall have served us all at the same time

Went there for the gourmand event. We did the 3 course option for $49! Our server was wonderfully kind albeit very busy (we would be missing utensils, etc). The appetizer & dessert were both great & lovely!! Disappointment came with the steak which was completely flavourless & dry. Fries unsalted. We had to ask for salt to just get through it. All 5 us ordered the steak & we all felt the same. Unsure if it was a bad night. Overall with individual bills coming to $60 each, was better off getting something else.
It's Happening Gourmand month, on a Saturday night, the place is packed. We could not be served in the beginning by our waitress, the busboy took care of us. He was very amiable. Post orders, it took very long time to get any of our dishes. When the waitress took over after the first service, the service dropped a little notch down. Appetizer: garlic spinach soup 5/5, cod fritters 4/5 (more potatoes than fish). Main dishes: lobster risotto: 1/5 (unevenly cooked, after taste had sand feeling), steak & fries: 3/5 (unevenly seasoned, one side more salty) dessert: brookie & profiteroles:5/5. Overall the experience was average.
My evening at Méchant Boeuf, located in Old Montreal's charming Vieux-Port, was a delightful mix of culinary delights & a few drawbacks. Opting to dine on a Monday night, we found the dining room unusually quiet, with only a handful of patrons seated at the bar. Our hostess & waitress proved to be attentive professionals. The service was impeccable from the start, with a warm attitude & thoughtful recommendations. We kicked off the evening by savoring a delicious Amaretto Sour, my personal favorite, & the Feeling Spicy, a bold concoction of Hennessy VS cognac, lemon juice, bitters, & lavender syrup. The cocktails were well-balanced, leaving a positive first impression. As for the appetizers, the pork dumplings were satisfactory, though their likely frozen origin was discernible. In contrast, the beef tartare was a pleasant surprise, generously portioned & tastefully seasoned. For the main courses, we opted for the NY strip steak with pepper sauce, accompanied by Monte Cristo potatoes, & the ribeye steak. The dishes were flavorful, well-prepared, & featured generous portions. The quality of ingredients & culinary expertise shone through. However, the experience was marred by the noisy ambiance created by patrons at the bar. Their boisterous behavior, with no regard for the tranquility of others, could have been better managed by the restaurant staff. Unfortunately, the servers did not take initiative to address the noise, negatively impacting our overall enjoyment of the evening. Despite this drawback, Méchant Boeuf remains a recommendable spot for its enticing flavors & professional service. I would suggest, however, carefully choosing the timing of your visit to avoid a overly loud atmosphere, especially if you seek a more serene & intimate dining experience.

Méchant Boeuf provided the perfect atmosphere for a romantic date night with my wife. The ambiance was cozy, the service impeccable, & the food absolutely delicious. We shared the steak frites, cooked to perfection, & indulged in their rich desserts. Highly recommend for a special occasion!
I had a lovely dinner last week. Menu selection was excellent, as well as drinks option. I had the steak frites with creamy spinach, the meal was delicious. This is a great spot in old Montreal!

really mediocre valentine day experience. first, i had to ask twice to have our table to be fixed (the table was wobbly) & for ice. that being said, it was busy so that wasn't a huge deal. the drinks were great, nice presentation & tasted perfect. we ordered the greek cheese with jam & pomegranate. it came with only three slices of bread so we ended up asking for a basket of bread, which to be fair, we didn't know we had to ask for it. then we ordered the wagyu experience option & the food took an hour to arrive. i have to mention again, it was very busy. but for the price & the type of meat, it was sooo disappointing when our steak (which is the only hot meal of the course) came out cold. it's important to note that our steak couldn't be heated like its supposed to, since heating it up would over cook the meat. our fries & sauce were not given to us & when i ordered, our server did not ask me about what kind of sauce i wanted, pretty unorganized. at one point, my partner & i went out for a smoke & by the time we got back, the lamp that was on our table disappeared our server also did not pay attention to the small details you'd expect for such restaurant. no dirty plates or utensils were picked up, i had to ask a busboy to give us new ones. it was just so disappointing. the food was very tasteless & cold. i would not recommend this restaurant. arrived at 7:30 & left at 10:30 because of the amount of time we had to wait for our food. i'd advise you to spend your money & evening at another steakhouse like Gibbys.
Ordered a peppercorn sauce steak with mashed potatoes & it came with grilled bok choy. Steak was cooked as it should be & potato mash was delicious. The sauce was a bit on the salty side. Also ordered a poutine as an entrée & the gravy was WAY too salty, kinda ruined the poutine. Drinks - ordered Le Péché- was ON POINT though! 😋
Walking through Old Montreal & Stumbled upon Méchant Boeuf, it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was great & the music was too. Our server Jérémy was awesome! He recommended the mashed potatoes & my boyfriend & I loved it. We had oysters, steaks as well. Overall a great experience with fantastic service, & definitely an addition to our places to eat in Montreal.

Over crowded drinking hole that happens to serve mediocre steaks as a side hustle... I would not recommend this place if you're looking for a relaxing, quality culinary experience. This is an overpriced restaurant with loud techno playing in the background for good measure. Trashy crowd.
I absolutely loved my evening at Méchant Boeuf last night! Great service from start to finish, ambiance was vibrant on Wednesday with a pretty great DJ. Started off with oysters & octopus from the raw bar, loved it! I'm quite a fan of octopus dishes so whenever I see one I have to try, & I was pretty impressed. Next was the calamari (perfectly seasoned) & the wagyu beef mini burgers, so tasty! The braised beef poutine is a must for poutine lovers. My friend had never tried poutine before, I don't think it'll be his last now. For the carnivorous folk, we had a medium-rare hanger steak & it was just perfect. Definitely a steakhouse to try in old port!
LONG BUT WORTH KNOWING. As a server, I know this isn't right!
To kick things off I'd like to say that the portion sizes & flavours of the meals are great.
Our service however, was bitter-sweet. Our waiter was polite & helpful with the menu & fast to come take our drink orders. As a server myself, I find what happens next absolutely appalling. I ordered the salmon tartare as my appetizer, yet, only 25 minutes AFTER placing the order did the waiter come to inform me that they were out of salmon & instead offered me beef tartare (which I accepted, but never received). Some 20-30 minutes later the main dishes started arriving to our table, all except two. My boyfriend had ordered a steak (probably the fastest food you can order from a kitchen..) that he never got, so I quickly asked the waiter about how much longer it would be & he looked at me with a blank stare. He apologized for having FORGOTTEN to place the order & proceeds to explain that the kitchen is now closed. After waiting over an hour for an appetizer & main meal, we never received. No substitute food options were offered, that was it. My boyfriend would have to sit there & watch the rest of us eat our meals...
While this was going on with us, our friend across from us was speaking to the manager. Apparently he ordered a salmon tartare that never came & posed if he could have the beef & the manager told him there was none of that left either. Interesting side note, the waiter offered me beef tartare didn't he? I never got it though. So the friend then explains to the MANAGER that he is hungry, he'll take a burger, anything fast. The manager says "I'm very sorry but the kitchen is closed, you guys can share..." I sincerely hope this was a joke. Then he tells my friend that he can offer him a round of SHOTS for the table instead. Instead of ANY FORM OF FOOD THAT HE HAD ORDERED. Needless to say, my friend refused. We came there to eat, when you take an order it is your JOB to make sure the customers get the food they ORDERED. & I find it offensive to be offered SHOTS as a meal replacement. I've never heard of a manager anywhere offering a liquor replacement to someone who ordered food. As I said, I am a server as well. If I screw up someone's order I will ensure that the customer gets a MEAL they are happy with instead. Or a discount? Nope, get wasted on an empty stomach!
