Fantastic experience at Méchant Boeuf. We were celebrating a milestone anniversary & had a reservation after Aura at the basilica.
Our server, Sarah R., offered us complimentary dessert instead of the usual glass of prosecco as she noticed we were looking at the mocktails menu. It was such a nice gesture & we were amazed that she noticed we were not having alcohol before we actually ordered.
We discussed with her our plan to order a filet & a strip steak & she suggested that we might do better to share a porterhouse which would be aged. This was a perfect solution for us - we were able to get the aged steaks for close to the same price as the individual non-aged steaks & the shared dish was a nice touch for our anniversary.
Our mocktails were great (we really appreciate it when restaurants offer fancy drinks without alcohol).The steaks were perfectly done (medium rare) & we especially enjoyed the mashed potatoes with egg yolk. The key lime pie for dessert was delicious (a personal favorite of ours). The food was all very satisfying & enjoyable.
Sarah R. really helped make our night feel special. She was observant, helpful & attentive, but not obtrusive in any way. She provided some of the best service we received on our trip to Montreal & felt very lucky for choosing Méchant Boeuf for our celebration.
3 Stars quality across the board, but i demote to 2 stars because of the price+expectation. Boeuf was out of their boeuf cut & various other items - from steaks to wines. They also refused to cook meat rare charred, then brought out a very overcooked medium rare. At this price point I am going elsewhere, although nothing here was bad, per se.
The place is very beautiful, but the food was disappointing. We ordered steak & shrimp, but they had no taste. The shrimp felt like frozen ones from a supermarket, & the steak was not good. Even the mashed potatoes didn't taste nice - I didn't know it was possible to make them badly. Cannot recommend. & it was too loud.

The waitress was the best, would 100% recommend, the food were all good , I had the rib eye steak & the dumpling, there were chef kiss

Rib steak not seasoned & thin, sure didn't seem like a 12 oz. Asparagus & carrots were overcooked. The server came with pepper, had to ask for salt. Would be nice if they could just provide them on the table as most people like to do it themselves. Somewhat disappointing for the price.
Méchant Boeuf never disappoints, & our latest visit was no exception! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm & inviting, setting the perfect stage for an incredible evening.
A huge shoutout to our waiter, Valter, who was unbelievably kind, knowledgeable, & professional, truly a top-tier waiter. His recommendations were spot on, his attention to detail impeccable, & his genuine passion for hospitality made our experience even more special. Service like this is rare, & Valter set the bar incredibly high.
Of course, the food was outstanding as always perfectly cooked steaks, lovely wine, & a lively yet cozy ambiance that makes Méchant Boeuf one of our favorite spots in Montreal.
Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience. Ask for Valter! Can't wait to return!

My wife & I tried out this restaurant that is one of 3 in the Hotel Nelligan where we are staying. From the moment we arrived the service of all the staff was excellent but I would like to especially highlight the very welcoming & professional service that our main waitress Amelie provided to us! (15 out of 10!!!)
The food was nicely presented & my steak was quite good although my steak had to be reheated .My wife had only a Caesar salad with a shrimp cocktail & the shrimp were excellent but she found the salad was too heavy & too full of ingredients like bacon, Parmesan cheese, soggy croutons & way too much salad dressing! Despite that we enjoyed our evening because of the nice ambiance & excellent & friendly service of all the staff & especially Amelie who made us feel very special!!!
We had an amazing night here celebrating my wife's 40th bday, we were very well looked after by Sarah. We ordered the beef carpaccio to start & picanha & NY striploin steak cuts for our main, everything were well made & very flavorful prepared to our liking! Definitely recommend this gem of a place for any occasion!

It was a good experience. To be fair, it was very busy during our time. The door was open a lot & it was a little cold inside. Besides that, the food was very good. The ceasar salad was amazing. The steak was cooked to our desired temperature & the sauces were good. The mashed potato was served cold & the fries were not noteworthy, but it didn't take much away from the meal.
beautiful ambience & great friendly service. location is awesome, in the beautiful area of Old Montreal. The food however at least for us that night left us disappointed. Both steak orders were well over-cooked & the braised beef ribs was quite salty & inconsistently cooked, beautifully soft & tender in spots & then tough & overcooked in other spots. I'm willing to give the restaurant another shot the next time we visit Montreal as the service was great.
We had an exceptional dining experience at this restaurant! The service exceeded our expectations-attentive yet not intrusive from our waiter Valter! The food was incredible, with the steak cooked to perfection at the ideal doneness. Everything came out at just the right time, & the flavors were spot-on. Highly recommend for a top-tier meal & great overall experience!
Certainement un des meilleurs « steak house » de Montréal, mais pas que! Les calamars sont incroyables!! Un endroit très agréable & convivial. Un service au top avec des équipes au petit soin. Il faut venir!!!! & revenir!!!! Le méchant boeuf c est surtout méchamment TOP!
