Went there for a comedy fund raiser. The food was delicious & the staff was amazing. Quick & efficient service with great homey attitude. Will go back.
"I really like the new vibe they've given to the place, especially the service area, & it's nice to hear bands from their early days, good jamming, covers. The food is a bit lacking, but just a matter of tweaking, highly recommended."
I ordered the homemade Irish stew. I really hated it. Maybe it's just not to my tastes, but it was not what I was expecting at all. I've had the Irish stew at Ye Olde Orchard & it's amazing, I've even posted about it before. Theirs was creamy & had a rich savory flavor of Guinness. By contrast this Irish stew at McKibbins was very tangy & sour, almost like there was vinegar in it. It made it taste like the soup was rotten or spoiled. I tried tasting individual pieces (carrot, potato, meat) to see if there was something I could avoid, but everything was saturated with it, especially the meat. The only thing that tasted good to me was the dollop of mashed potatoes on top & the bun that came with it. The bun was very moist & delicious with a subtle sweet flavor. It was a shame because it was pretty expensive, $23 before tip & I had to throw out the rest because I just couldn't finish it. Perhaps this type of Irish stew is more authentic & I just made a regrettable decision for my taste buds. I just wanted to warn others if they were similarly expecting something akin to Ye Olde Orchard. I will say that the pub had a nice atmosphere & the staff seemed very friendly, knowledgeable & attentive. Maybe they have other things that would appeal to my palate. The decor was charming, with a little matching door for "leprechauns".
Nice place, live music. Staff is super friendly. Might take a little bit to get food & drinks on a weekend. Very busy, & the staff gets a little behind.
The music is way too loud, not good music either. Whoever is making the playlists is definitely over 40, service was slow. Sad to see this place fall so far.
I used to love this place, but the food quality has decreased immensely. The fries are ugh, even the St Ambroise New England IPA is different & not in a good way. I had the French Onion soup & it was luke warm. On the flip side, the waitress was outstanding. However I won't be going back anytime soon.
