Review Summary

McKibbins Irish Pub is widely celebrated as an iconic downtown destination, known for its vibrant atmosphere, authentic Irish charm, and consistently friendly service. Guests frequently highlight the extensive selection of beers and spirits, the enjoyment of live music, and the highly entertaining comedy nights as major draws for both locals and visitors. While experiences with the food menu are generally positive, with standout mentions for the bison burger, potato soup, and various wing options, the venue remains a top choice for watching sports, socializing with friends, or simply relaxing in a lively, historic setting.

I originally came for a comedy show, but was surprised by how good the food was! The bar food exceeded my expectations. I tried both the sweet potato fries & the regular fries, & they were both excellent, flavorful, & cooked perfectly. The wings were also top tier & definitely worth ordering. The music was great & really added to the overall vibe of the place.

The fries & fired pickles were good but wings were bit great. Otherwise they have a decent brew selection & the place is lively.

Posted 2026 - as said below about atmosphere & service, great. But I want the owner/operators to know, your wings have turned to an insult to wings around the world. Please please for the love of all things good in the world change your wings back from who ever you are buying from now GFS or Sysco or whoever. I would never reco the wings to anyone I like. I hope you see this.

Posted 2022 - Cosy pub atmosphere, great beer selection, service & friendliness is great, very good wings & wings come with fries, good pub menu. Usually full of people. As an out of towner this is where I come to feel at home.

Great place to see a hockey match. I recommend to arrive early to catch a table. The potato soup is a must & of course the chicken wings. If you are like spicy, the spicy sauce it's good, not so spicy but it helps.

They say that at 10 pm a group plays & it gets even better so I'll have to come back.

McKibbins on Bishop is the original, &, in my opinion, the best location of this beloved Irish pub, & it's my go-to spot in Montréal for a good pint of Guinness. Housed in a beautiful turn-of the century mansion, it serves solid pub fare (don't miss the wings or the chips with curry sauce) in a lively, traditional setting. Swing by on Monday nights for the weekly comedy show upstairs(in English) & be sure to grab a seat toward the back unless you want to become part of the act! Come St. Patrick's Day, the entire place is packed from top to bottom, making it the city's marquee venue for the holiday.
Sláinte!

So I have come to Mckibbins twice this trip. Once to support Bar Star & then tonight.

Saturday night was amazing & the service was top notch.

I went in tonight to grab a bite to eat, & when I got the late night menu it said that 6 wings were 12 dollars according to the menu & inlcuded fries from what i read at no extra. I was charged 16 dollars for the wings that come with fries, a carrot & two small celery sticks & just over 10 for 2 pops.

Getting charged a different price than menu price is extremely annoying. I tipped because 1. It's what you do for the servers & cook, & 2 because of the service on Saturday. But please correct your prices rather than surprising customers were a 4 dollar extra charge which came as a surprise since I thought I was gonna spend 20 instead of 30.

Edit: Additionally the late night wings are small, while for their size they have a decent amount of meat, for how much I paid that wasn't worth the price.

I went to Montreal on a business trip last week. Whenever I go to a new city I look up what the spiciest food available is & get it. In this case, I kept seeing the rim reaper wings at McKibbin's come up.

There were two sizes, 6 wings for'the curious' & 12 for the challenge.

I usually end up underwhelmed but not this time. When I got the wings, honestly they didn't look that impressive, looked just like regular buffalo wing sauce. Ate one wing. It was pretty spicy, & actually it had a really good flavor.

If I hadn't gotten the 12 wings, I would have been satisfied with six. After 8, I felt a gut punch. This is actually one of the best parts of it. When I've gotten it before, it usually happens a few hours after a challenge. So the wings & my body were letting me know before it's too late that I'm going to be having a bad time later if I continue. Knowing you're going to feel bad later is sort of an abstract concept, but that gut punch brought back some vivid memories.

I sat there for a bit, deciding whether I wanted to try to power through the last four, or give up. I have a plane to catch in the morning, I don't want to be sick while I'm dealing with that.

The pub was not too far from my hotel. I came on foot which wasn't bad, & I left on foot, which was. Every step was just making everything in there slosh around. It got to where I couldn't walk, I had to go into an alleyway & just sat on the ground breathing for a bit, unable to move. I didn't know how I was going to make it back. But after sitting still for a bit I managed to recover enough to make it the rest of the way. Once I got into my room I just laid on the bed sweating. I was thirsty, but the only thing to drink was water out of the bathroom faucet, & I couldn't justify moving just for that. Eventually I fell asleep.

I woke up some time later in the early morning, &... it was like nothing happened. I was really glad about that. I've never had the capsaicin fever in an airplane toilet & I don't ever want to.

So all in all, a worthwhile challenge that actually tastes good too. If I find myself back in Montreal I will have to make arrangements & try again... or maybe just get six.

A great atmosphere Irish pub. They have on the menu - unfortunately, only on the menu anymore - a challenge for their Guineiniss record book hot wings. Dear management: please, either make it worth it & give some reward for the challenge or remove the challenge from the menu.
Anyways, the Guinness record book hot wings were really good. Very hot spicy, but tasty spicy & good too. I'd highly recommend trying it. They have live music during the evening.

Had the ghost pepper wings & had an out of body experience eating them lol! Glad I tried them (by'them', I mean just one), & be warned, they're insanely hot. Fantastic pub & great eats. Lovely staff, too. :-)
