Still dreaming of this meal. My partner & I went to Mauvais Garçon for our anniversary & enjoyed the'Menu Experience' which was a 7 course meal of some incredible dishes. We ordered a few extra as well because we like to try things. A fancier version of comfort food - right up our alley. The service was also impeccable & the vibes were great.
Slide 1: Caesar Salad house dressing, parmesan chips, herbed croutons. 10/10 probably our fav of the night but it's hard to choose.
Slide 2: Burrata - basil-arugula hummus, roasted chickpeas, pomegranate, zaatar, confit tomato relish. Again 10/10. We inhaled this.
Slide 3: Beef tartare -'jerk' aioli, grilled scallion, plantain chips. I never tried beef tartare before & was nervous to because I don't typically eat a lot of red meat. I appreciated the flavours but Jason enjoyed this one a lot more. 8/10.
Slide 5: Popcorn chicken - garlic, maple & dijon glazed, carrot, cucumber, chipotle mayo. This was not part of the'Menu Experience' but we wanted to try it - 10/10. Incredible. Our eyes were rolling behind our head.
Slide 6: Fried Pierogi - potato, caramelized onions, cheddar, beer-braised cabbage, dill yogurt. 8/10. I really enjoyed this one but Jason felt there was too much dill (he's also not a huge dill fan where I am). Melt in your mouth delicious.
Slide 7: Chicken Sliders & Truffle Fries - buffalo fried chicken, slaw, ranch, chipotle mayo. 10/10 another favourite. Chicken melts in your mouth. I'm usually not big on buffalo but I really enjoyed this. The fries were amazing too.
Slide 8: Cookies & cream. Need I say more? 10/10.
They also have a vegetarian menu too fyi! Thanks Mauvais Garçons for a wonderful experience!!

The Bar & The Best Espresso Martini:
Beyond the fantastic food, Mauvais Garçons truly shines in its cocktail offerings. They boast a creative & well-executed drink menu, but there's one particular highlight that demands special mention: Jonathan makes the best espresso martini in the city.
His espresso martini is simply unparalleled. It's perfectly balanced - strong enough to give you that delightful coffee kick, but smooth & exquisitely blended, without being overly sweet or bitter. The frothy head is consistently perfect, & the overall taste is a symphony of rich coffee, a hint of sweetness, & a potent, yet refined, alcoholic base. It's clear that Jonathan possesses a masterful touch & a deep understanding of what makes this classic cocktail truly exceptional. It's the ideal way to cap off a fantastic meal or to kick off a lively evening.

Overall:
Mauvais Garçons is a must-visit in St-Henri. With its beautiful ambiance, delicious & well-crafted small plates, & especially, the undisputed best espresso martini made by Jonathan, it offers a memorable & truly enjoyable dining & drinking experience. It's a place you'll want to return to again & again.
Food is good, my favorite was the tuna & burrata. The tasting menu is overpriced for what it is. Better to get the dishes individually. The music is obnoxiously loud & the TV playing movies distracts from the decor.
Mauvais Garçon was such a great surprise! Émile, our server, was incredibly helpful & made our experience even better. Everything was delicious - from the beer to the plates. The restaurant follows a tapas-style concept, with dishes meant to be shared, & the ones we've ordered were amazing. Make sure to get the Brussels sprouts & the fried chicken sliders!
It was just a quick stop to pass the time, but I honestly can't wait to go back!
Tried their new Notre-Dame location.
Service & atmosphere were quite excellent. The staff is awesome too & overall nice vibe.
The tuna tartare was our first dish - very tasty. Unfortunately everything else was SOOO SALTY. I don't know if the chef that day was just heavy on the salt but it was hard to finish the other dishes because of how salty they were.
That's a shame because it was otherwise a great place. I guess we might have gotten unlucky that day.
The drinks were delicious!
It seems to get busy so reservation would be recommended.
We went here for our annual holiday get-together & found out if the recent influencer hype is justified. It's important to note we did not try the new "menu experience" because they lacked the items we wanted. So we picked our own. Firstly, we were greeted with, quite honestly, subpar service for a place with a menu at those prices. We realize the place is called "mauvais Garçons" , but the service was fitting of that. Apparently, "May I take your order?" has gone out of style & been replaced with an uninterested & lazy, "So what are we doing? What's happening for food?". But that's subjective; maybe I'm too old-fashioned or snobby ♂️ Our tabletop was also loose & kept shifting by serval inches every time we rested our elbows on it. As for the food itself, the sliders were by far the best thing we tried, & we have had better. We also don't understand how the menu says "à partager" but each dish is an odd number (3) of items. Yet, the tables are for 2, 4, or 6 people, not triangles or nonagons. Given the elevated price for the small portions, this is a problem for us. We ordered 3-4 plates each, a drink, & a dessert, spent $120 each (no GST/TPS that day), shared, & left hungry anyway (actually ate again elsewhere). The dessert was also tiny & subpar in taste. You may have seen some hype around the $65 7-course "menu experience". We suggest trying that if it includes all the dishes you want to try. But it's for a minimum of two people, so $65 becomes $130 to share one extra item (the plates will have 4 instead of 3 from what we saw in the reels). It's not as ridiculously cheap as advertised, but still slightly less overall, & maybe you won't leave hungry. For our experience, unfortunately it did not live up to the hype & was not worth driving through Montreal's Saturday dinner-time traffic. We apologize for the mostly negative review, we understand that our single, isolated experience may not be the norm at this particular restaurant.
We ate on the wine bar side & enjoyed the tasting menu. Everything was outstanding- exceptional service, excellent food. They were flexible & accommodated our party & timing. So wonderful to find a place offering inventive delicious quality dishes that is unpretentious & welcoming. Could not have asked for more.
Let's start by saying if you love tapas & a decent variety for a small menu this could be the spot. I recently visited a Mauvais Garçons with 3 friends, & we had a fantastic experience. My friend reserved for us online for my birthday dinner! The service was excellent-attentive, friendly, & very personable. As mentioned, it's tapas, ideal to share dishes with whoever you're with. The variety of choices & flavours that kept us wanting to try more. We had tuna tartare, burrata, sliders, fries, brussel sprouts & cookies for dessert. Each service was more & more delish. The sliders really stole the show. I don't think anyone wanted to share. We sat outside! It was so enjoyable! I feel a great place to go on a date or bring a decent group of people. I saw there was a tasting menu & it seemed like everyone orders the Cesar - we didn't. But perhaps that means we need to go back? Made for a great pre-Birthday dinner!
We were there for NYE, & the service was too slow. We were supposed to have a fixed tapas menu, which was overpriced, & we got our first dish an hour after being sitted. It would take so long in between! at 11h30, we still had 4 dishes left that we decided to take home because we were not planning to be there for midnight.

the arancini are crunchy but melt in your mouth
The tuna tacos were one of the best tacos ive ever eaten
& that carrot cake OH MY GOD i took a second carrot cake home it was sooooooo goood
It is one of the best dishes i've ever eaten, that is for sure. The mix between the comfort food & the high end dish with quality ingredients is divine. It's like being at home, but in a NEW GAME+: all the perks, but better
That being said, the staff are what makes this restaurant so special. Super helpful in choosing what to order, gives you all the details in the dish in a manner where i did not feel like it was a menu explanation, but a genuine conversation. I stayed a little longer after my meal & went at the bar & the barman was super funny.
I was not expecting staying that long but i had so much fun. Will be back for sure
