Afficher toutbangladeshi(54) recommend(45) chicken(38) authentic(36) roast(30) beef(28) tehari(24) price(22) bengali(22) highly recommend(20) biryani(16) quality(16)Trying their food took me back to when I went to visit Dhaka, Bangladesh for a couple of months. Excellent service & very welcoming! Portions are generous! We had their Beef Tehari, Chicken Curry, with the side dish Allo Bhorta, Begun Bhorta, & Sutki Bhorta. All very tasty & delicious, spicy, & authentic!
Food:
Summary: Tastes like good home cooked meal, nothing close to bangladeshi restaurants or baburchis. Thats not an issue. Main issue it doesnt taste fresh, most items taste like it has been frozen for a long time & reheated when serving. Tried this place twice, & the food tasted stale both times. Price is reasonable based on local market.
Tehari: (4/5) tastes close to authentic tehari in Bangladesh. But the meat pieces were tough & felt like it was prepared long ago & re-heated. Not like it wasnt cooked properly, it was as if the meat became stale & tough by the process of freezing & reheating. But rating 4 out 5 still since taste was close to home.
Kachhi: (1/5) The meat was definitely old, stale, & reheated. The meat was tough & looked stale as well. It it did not taste a day or two old stale, it tasted like it was at least a week old. Rating 1 only because the rice had some hint of fragrance of authentic kachhi, but it is still far off. Plan to get a roast or something to have with it because the biriyani meat is almost inedible.
Roast Polao: 5/5. Tastes like home but the polao is extremely greasy.
Service: Service is very slow. Except for the owner, nobody else knows how to greet customers. But thats fine for a small authentic restaurant such as this.
Amosphere: Mostly a takeaway. Didnt feel like a place where I would plan to sit & enjoy.
You must go here! We had the Beef Tehari, Chicken Curry & Rui Fish with Milk Tea. Every dish was amazing. The service is so thoughtful, they even gave us a free portion of a lamb dish & dessert on the house after having prepared a catering order. The prices are more than reasonable, we were stuffed full for under $40.
One of the best restaurants for Deshi food in Montreal. We order Beef Tehari & Chicken Roast, which was perfect for us. The food was very delicious & we really enjoyed the food.
The main thing is their consistency, no matter how much customer they're serving, their food quality & taste never drops.
Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Atmosphere: 5/5
We were passing through Montreal from Toronto & decided to grab lunch here, & I'm really glad we did. We ordered the beef tehari & it was honestly so good-full of flavor & very comforting. Everyone working there was kind & easy to talk to, & the owner was especially friendly & welcoming. Nothing felt rushed, & the service was just genuinely nice. Overall, it was a great experience & I'd definitely recommend this place if you're craving Bangladeshi food.
We were visiting Montreal from Toronto & decided to stop by this Bangladeshi restaurant for lunch. It was honestly a really nice experience. We ordered the beef tehari, & it was delicious-full of flavor & cooked just right. The staff were very nice & welcoming, & the owner was super friendly & made us feel at home. The service overall was smooth & pleasant. We're really glad we found this place & would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for good Bangladeshi food.
After a long time in Montreal, I finally tasted tehari, borhani, & boti kebabs that felt truly authentic to Bangladeshi cuisine. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommend, & I can't wait to return for the kacchi biryani & more. Oh, & the naan that comes with the kebabs is absolutely stunning. The ambience / decoration is basic, but we were there for the food & it delivered.
My friends & I came all the way from Toronto to explore Montreal, & we found this hidden gem! I had amazing Bangladeshi food here - especially the beef tehari & roast pulao. The seasoning was perfect. I highly recommend trying their food if you're looking for authentic Bangladeshi & Asian cuisine 👌👌👌
Exceptional Bangladeshi style food, really enjoyed the roast pulao & the beef Tehari. Will come back again & again.
always order through uber eats & love the food specially tehari! but sometimes instructions like extra salad is not looked over. another time ordered kebab with naan combo & was surprised to find out only 1 cold naan with kebab with no sauce or salad.
also kinda disappointed as i couldnt order late night as i thought it's 24hrs open as said in uber eats
**Disappointed After High Expectations**
I had high expectations for this Bangladeshi restaurant in Montreal after hearing good things & seeing positive reviews, especially from the Bangladeshi community. Unfortunately, it seems like as the restaurant has become more popular, the quality of the food has declined.
I ordered 2 beef tehari, but it was overwhelmingly spicy & contained over 10 pieces of dried prunes in a single plate, which was excessive. On a previous visit, I had tried the roast & found it excellent, but this time the two pieces I ordered smelled more like tandoori smoked legs than authentic roast. The test was like old.
The beef kebab was decent but not something I would recommend. Honestly, the only thing that met expectations was the Canada Dry.
Overall, my expectations were not met. It's disappointing to see a place let their food quality slip after achieving some success.
I still believe this restaurant has quality foods.
The food was incredible! We ordered the chicken biryani & beef tehari-both were freshly made & full of flavor. The dishes reminded me of the home-cooked meals I grew up with in my Bengali family. We also got payesh to go, & it was lovely. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Bengali cuisine! :)
A Hidden Gem in Montreal - A Taste of Bangladesh!
We traveled from Ottawa for a day trip to Montreal & chose Moonstar based on its high rating. At first glance, the entrance & décor might seem a bit underwhelming, but trust us-once you taste the food, you'll understand why this place is so highly rated.
The flavors took us straight back to Bangladesh, especially the biye bari r roast polau, which was perfectly spiced & incredibly comforting. We also had the tehari & haleem, both bursting with rich, traditional flavors. Every dish felt like a nostalgic trip home.
All in all, highly recommended-this spot is a must-visit for anyone looking for authentic Bangladeshi cuisine in Montreal!
I stumbled across this store by accident, & it has been an incredible experience so far. I have become a regular here, since they cater for midnight owls like me.
Recommended dishes :
- Polao Roast ( Generally 9.3/10 rating )
- Beef Tehari ( Generally 9.1/10 )
- Sheri combo is nice, usually has 3 varieties. (8.7/ 10)
- Tandoori chicken usually maintain more flavour than general montreal tadoori chicken ( 9.1/10)
-Kheer ( this item is unreal, 11/ 10)
If you want food that tastes like Bengali food is mean to taste like, this is a must try!!
Amazing service! We ordered everything from the Rice Items (Tehari, Chicken Roast Polao, Kacchi, Grilled Chicken), fruit juices, dudh cha, & borhani!
Each of them were top tier! I would say this is the best Bangladeshi restaurant in Montreal! Beautiful authentic food!
Amazing food & customer friendly place. Best place in Montreal, if you look for the authentic DESHI taste. Highly recommended, especially beef tehari & haalim.
The food is absolutely delicious, however the price has gone up & the portion went down. Last time I went to the restaurant, they were charging same price as UberEats. 14 bucks for Tehari & 20 bucks for Kacchi seems a lot, considering no decor & service.
