Review Summary

Reviews for Maison Sai Yan describe authentic Chinese and Szechuan cooking with a broad, comforting menu and bold flavors that entice many visitors to return; dish notes highlight fresh seafood, robust sauces, and satisfying options like eggplant, though a few plates are described as ordinary or slightly dry and portions can feel small for the price; the setting is intimate and unpretentious, with friendly service noted by several, even as a few experiences mention slower pacing or moments of inconsistency; overall value is seen as favorable for the quality and authenticity, despite occasional price increases, and the restaurant is felt to be a worthwhile find that delivers true flavors more than fancy ambiance, with BYOB and accessible parking mentioned as perks.

The food was good & all the dishes came out around the same time. Unlike a previous reviewer, I did not notice any over saltiness in the food. I'm giving the food rating a 4 star since the taste is more or less the same as their competitors in the area The service is where they should improve. 1) when ordering, the waiter was constantly trying to upsell us. Despite telling her we wanted some simple, she acted like she was getting a sales commission. 2) unlike their nearby competitors, the dishes were served in smaller plates or larger plates that were only 70% full. It was very noticeable & puzzling since the ingredients in our dishes were not expensive. 3) they calculate tips on top of tax. The government is clamping down on this shortly & I hope they stop soon. 4) I asked if they had complementary dessert, they said yes. Minutes later, 1/2 a small bowl of red bean dessert was served & we were all supposed to share it In summary, on the surface, this looks like a family style restaurant, you want to help to be successful. The food was on par but, the portion size could be larger. However, multiple hints of greed & cost cutting erases any nostalgic feeling one might have from eating at a smaller family restaurant.

My family & I absolutely adore Cantonese cuisine - this place is pretty far for me but genuinely I would recommend it to anyone looking to try a great plate of food. 10/10 would always recommend extremely delicious!!

Hong Kong Canadian here. Very authentic Cantonese style BYOB, family-style restaurant. One of the very best in town. Must try their Lobster served on sticky rice, sweet & sour pork, salt & pepper squid & Pei Pa Tofu (stuffed fried tofu).

Excellent very flavourful Chinese food in a neat, calm & intimate/small location. Waitresses have great enthusiasm in helping us choose our food & are helpful throughout our meal. They do have baby/toddler chairs which makes this place family friendly. Yes it's true that they omit to mention price of some suggestions which could lead to some bad surprises as mentionned in some reviews. It would be nice if they improved on that. Overall, it's a nice alternative to the noisy & very busy large Chinese restaurants.
