Review Summary

Maison Bao is widely recognized as a highly affordable and convenient destination for authentic Asian cuisine in downtown Montreal. Many patrons praise the restaurant for its delicious soup dumplings, flavorful noodle dishes, and efficient QR code ordering system, which makes it a popular choice for students and those seeking a quick, casual meal. While the vast majority of visitors highlight the excellent value for money, welcoming atmosphere, and friendly service, opinions on the food quality are occasionally mixed, with some noting that certain items taste premade. Despite inconsistent experiences regarding service attentiveness, the overall consensus points to a modern, well-lit environment that is perfect for sharing comfort food with friends at a great price point.

First time visiting, had a good time. The menu had limited options but food was delicious. I ordered the beef soup dumplings & the spicy pork soup dumpling 🥟! Would recommend this spot for a quick bite with some friends or solo vibes

Great spot for affordable, good value Chinese food. They offer dumplings, noodles, & soup casseroles. The space is spacious, clean, & gets a lot of natural light from large glass panels. We came for Sunday lunch & the service was quick & efficient - very much in the style of dining in Asia, so don't expect staff to check in unless you flag them down. You order via QR code & food comes out quickly.
We ordered the pickled cucumber, steamed beef soup dumplings, steamed pork soup dumplings, & the crispy pork & meatball soup casserole. The soup casserole was the highlight - packed with Chinese herbal flavours & lots of good ingredients. The dumplings were decent for the price ($5.99 for 6), though we've had better elsewhere & they did taste pre-made.

Ordered Braised beef noodles, Sichuan noodles & pork & cabbage fried dumplings. The broth of the braised beef noodles missed the mark for me tasting very much like chili oil. The Sichuan noodles were good but the main selling point was definitely the dumplings, they were big & juicy & tasted amazing.

I like the decor & cleanliness of the store. It's very easy to order using the QR code & its a great spot for students with their affordable options. We ordered the Sichuan noodles, braised beef noodles, & fried pork cabbage dumplings. I personally really liked their dumplings the most.

Very good pricepoint. The radish appetizer was a rare find & done very well. I would have preferred if the dandan noodles had stronger flavours & used minced pork instead of dried shrimp, it could have also used cucumber slices or some greens.

I was really not fond of the chicken in the noodles & chicken soup, it felt like it was reheated & from a cheap rotisserie chicken you can buy at the store.
However I think that the chicken was the only thing that was problematic, my friends took other dishes like the pork dumplings & another noodle dish which were tasty according to them.
The waiters were really nice & the location is ideal, next to the metro & Concordia university.
Also prices are good & you get good portions for what you pay for.
