Soft poached fish & you can also add other toppings as well. It's really not spicy at all. The fermented cabbages just add the right flavor to the dish. Really a good comfort food! Also I forgot the take the picture but their crispy pork was so so so good as well!
Highly recommend this place! The taro milk tea is rich, smooth, & perfectly sweet - definitely one of the best I've had.
The food is amazing too. The sour soup fish is flavorful & comforting, the pickled long bean fried rice is fragrant & well-seasoned, & the sizzling squid tentacles are tender with great smoky flavor.
Everything tasted fresh & well made. Will definitely come back again!
I really love their fried rice & noodles!!🤤& the portions are always a lot!! I think the Sichuan pepper flavor is my favorite & super spicy.
Love their taro & matcha drink too☺?
This is chinatown montreal. The noodle soupe avec Angus beaf at Le Belle Epicee is a fusion delight, with tender meat & flavorful Angus beef with rich, savory Chinese broth & pho noodles, offering a satisfying, hearty bowl with perfectly velveted beef that soaks up the balanced, complex flavors-a must-try here for those seeking asian flavors. The soupe is a little but spicy but just enough for me. The portion is big & can be for sharing. I also ordered citron lemon tea & very refreshing & for me good combo for the signature pho noodles soupe. Price is ranging from 15$ to 25$ per person but again maybe good for sharing. The people there are also accommodating.
I enjoyed my extra spicy General Tao's chicken & egg roll combo, food was very fresh & the sauce & spicy were very flavorful & authentic . Service was fast, food was hot, excellent choice & affordable. I will return when in Montreal.
I visited this restaurant on a Monday evening because it was one of the few Chinese places without a long wait. I am Chinese myself, though Cantonese, & perhaps that is why the flavors here did not fully match what I was craving. This restaurant serves more Taiwanese style dishes, so the taste is different from the Cantonese food I usually enjoy. We had already eaten pho earlier in the trip & wanted something different, so we decided to give this place a try after reading some reviews.
I ordered the General Tao chicken special for $12.99, which came with two spring rolls, a bowl of rice, & the main dish. Online the photos make the portion look larger, but in reality it was an average serving size that could really only feed one person. The taste was fine but not something I found appealing, & I could not finish it. We also shared the fried tofu appetizer, which came in a small portion with a sauce that was somewhere between sweet & sour. The flavor combination was not what I expected & threw me off.
The Hong Kong style milk tea was a pleasant surprise. At $2.99 it was inexpensive & tasted authentic. The service was also very good. Our waitress was polite, attentive, & very friendly which made the experience more positive. While we were dining, I also noticed a Quebec family come in, look at the menu for a bit, & then leave shortly after. That gave me the impression that perhaps the food style here may not suit everyone's taste.
The total for two people was about $41, which is fair for a sit down dinner. Unfortunately I did not feel well after the meal & went back to my hotel to rest for the night. Overall, I would say this restaurant is decent but not exceptional. The pricing & service were good, but the flavors & portions were not what I hoped for. If you enjoy Taiwanese style cooking, you may appreciate it more, but for me it was simply an average experience.
La Belle Épicée absolutely deserves five stars. The prices here are very affordable which makes it a great spot to enjoy with friends or family. Right next door is Fang Tea, & together they even offer combo specials for about $50 for two people, which is such a good deal & honestly hard to beat in Montreal.
The food itself was delicious, well prepared, & came out quickly. Everything tasted fresh & comforting, & the portions were generous for the price. It really felt like good value without sacrificing quality.
The service also stood out. The waitress who helped us was not only very beautiful but also incredibly kind & attentive. Even though I only know limited French since I am from Ontario, I was able to speak Mandarin & that worked out perfectly fine. She made me feel comfortable & welcomed, which I really appreciated.
Overall, La Belle Épicée offers a mix of affordability, good food, & warm hospitality. Whether you are a local or a visitor, this is the kind of spot that makes you feel at home while also giving you a taste of authentic flavors. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a casual yet memorable dining experience in Montreal.
Absolutely loved the food at La Belle Épicée in Chinatown, Montreal!
We originally wanted to try their pork dish, but it wasn't available, so we went with the signature chili oil Szechuan chicken instead-& we thoroughly enjoyed it! The flavors were bold, spicy, & incredibly satisfying. Will definitely be back to if we happen to be at Montreal !
The'original' (highest spice) soup base is authentic & delicious. We have some doubts about other items on the menu, since the one less authentic addition (the sliced beef) doesn't quite fit with the flavor profile- but we would definitely recommend the noodle soup with the original broth + fish for an easy & satisfying meal. For reference, the bowl pictured easily serves two
Great spot to try if you love chinese food, especially if it's your first timer in Chinatown. Fast & friendly service!
I totally fell in love with this restaurant & I totally recommend to everyone!
Food is great : noodle, rice, appetizers, stir fry & grilled basa fish.
I recommend :
- grilled basa fish : so crispy, so flavorful , just the right amount of spices. There are no bones & it's a great dish to share.
- Lunch menu special : for only 9.99$, you get a soup base, noodles & protein, all customizable!
- Fried pork bites & if you are feeling adventurous, whole squid skewers.
- Legit any drinks. I had the mango sago, strawberry smoothie, brown sugar coconut milk taro & the Hong Kong milk tea & they were all amazing.
Happy to see sauerkraut fish in MTL. Everything is super flavorful & the portion is quite generous for the price.
Sadly not great. I've only tried it once but their broth & spice usage is weak. The broth for the gain stew tastes like mediocre canned chicken broth with a lot of gelatin or starch added to give body. However, there is little flavor. The la dominates while there is little ma, which means there's a decent amount of spice but very little numbing flavor, or any other spice or herb flavor. Additionally, the portions are extremely small, making this place very expensive. Aunt Dai's is a way better option for this cuisine, at least as of a few years ago. To give you a concrete idea, the bowls are only slightly larger than a standard western cereal bowl. They are not family style portions.
