We went to Lester's Deli, a historic Montreal restaurant located in Outremont that has been serving traditional smoked meat sandwiches since 1951, & they are celebrating their 75th anniversary this year. It is considered one of the top smoked meat spots in the city. We ordered the Smoked Meat Special & Smoked Meat Sandwich. The signature classic Montreal-style smoked meats were served with bread, yellow mustard, accompanied by a side of fries & whole dill pickles. It was a casual deli experience but the food tasted delicious & appetizing!
Am 35year client. Always have same..Brisket sandwich. This time overly salty,tried to get attention of my server but was busy chatting up 2 tourists.Left half my meal & went to pay. After explaining my experience to cashier,all I received was a glassed over look ,zero response & my bill..... How's that for customer service

Thought I'd give it a try but it was a very expensive experience 42$ for 2 sandwiches is a little nuts, I know smoked meat has gone up but a little ridiculous with the size
Très bon restaurant, j'ai pris le sandwich Jumbo avec frites & liqueur viande fumée cuit à point pas trop salé Juteux patates frites, très bonne fraîche, pas congelée, & ne goûte pas la vieille huile, très bonne, très bel ambiance, très bon service quand on rentre à l'intérieur on se croirait dans un autre temps Le seul petit point négatif. Petit point pour le prix de la frite, il devrait augmenter la quantité le seul Point négatif que je peux dire de ce restaurant. Bravo à vous.👌👌
Updated review: Used to be 5 stars for my taste. Unfortunately, what I've experienced a few years back is nothing like it now. Last visit report: Fries still really good, pickles far from crunchy even a little hard to cut with knife. Now about the meat… I don't know what happened but this is not up to standards, i can replicate this at home. Made me feel a little sad. Not awful but certainly not a landmark anymore except for the decor. On the positive side service is still good.

Honestly, this might be the best smoked meat I've had in Montréal. It blows the competition out of the water. This is exactly what a real smoked meat sandwich should taste like - tender, juicy & full of flavour.
The staff were great too. Super friendly, energetic, & you can tell they actually enjoy what they do. I'll definitely be going back.

INCROYABLE. Mouth is watering as I write this out & think of the lovely experience I had. Best smoked meat sandwich ever. Best pickle. Best fries. Lovely service. There will not be a day where I don't think about you Lester.

I missed this so much from my time in Montreal & while delivery made this a pricy sandwich, it was worth every penny.
Lester's is a Montreal classic & I recommend anyone to go. The friendliness, humour, & relaxed enthusiasm was a great start to our trip. I loved how they guided us through ordering & their interactions with us. This coupled with the vintage interior is an experience on its own. Amazing customer experience. Ask about their house mustard!
The unfortunate part of Lester's was the smoked meat sandwich, in comparison to Schwartz's it's bland, the bread is bland, & the meat lacks punch & bite. The poutine was quite good so it brings the overall a bit higher

I ordered a smoked meat sandwich with mustard, fries, & pickles. Absolutely delicious. Not fatty or stringy as often seen with corned beef. Pleasant service & atmosphere in or out.
Dropped by for a smoked meat sandwich. Had been years since I had actually sat in the restaurant. I usually pick up or get delivery. We were warmly greeted by the young lady behind the counter & told to grab any seat. Then Ashley & her team gave us excellent service. We were expertly guided through the menu to make sure we ordered correctly as there are several subtle differences in the menu options when it comes to sandwiches. I ordered the Super deluxe platter which included a drink, dill pickle, a frie & the large sandwich with 3/4's of a pound of meat. The sandwich was delicious except I ordered it fatty & I found it very lean as compared to a fatty at Schwartz's. The fries were not great as they were soggy & probably fried in oil that wasn't to temp. My wife's Cole slaw was delicious as was her meat platter. Loved the nostalgic feeling of eating in as it brings me back to a bygone era. All in all a yummy treat with a couple of easily'fixable' issues. Could easily be 5 stars. Recommended.

Lester's is a must try if you're visiting Montreal! We live nearby & have visited multiple times over the years & have always had great service & great food. Without spoiling it, the staff played their famous prank on my mom when she came to visit & we still laugh about it. The restaurant itself has tons of cool memorabilia & has that vintage vibe that you won't find elsewhere. I highly recommend the super deluxe smoked meat sandwich combo & a Stewart's orange pop to finish it off!
