Le Surcouf is a welcoming French restaurant established in a Victorian home for over 45 years now. Dominique and the chef Serge will be pleased to help you discover the fine French classic cuisine. In the fall the restaurant offers a special game menu in addition to their regular table d'hôte that you create yourself.
Reviews consistently celebrate Le Surcouf for superb traditional French cuisine, artful presentation, and a warm, intimate atmosphere inside an old house with a fireplace that makes dining feel special. Service is described as professional, attentive, and friendly, with knowledgeable staff guiding wine choices and accommodating dietary needs including gluten free options. Many describe it as a West Island gem and a prime spot for anniversaries, family gatherings, and memorable evenings, offering both a refined carte and a reasonably priced Bistro menu. Decor and ambiance receive frequent praise, with quiet, cozy dining rooms, local art, and a welcoming feel that invites lingering. While a few reviews note busier nights can bring noise or slower pacing, the overall consensus is that Le Surcouf delivers consistently high quality, generous portions, and thoughtful touches that keep guests returning. Overall, guests emphasize that the combination of cuisine, service, and setting makes Le Surcouf one of the standout French dining experiences in the area.
We hadn't been in a couple of years although it was always a favourite. Glad to see the quality & service are still at 100%. These days it's not easy to find traditional French cuisine...everything is molecular this, gastronomic that... usually some celebrity chef-du-Jour showing off his cooking skills. But Le Surcouf remains true to its origins & purpose...outstanding traditional French cuisine. Sure, the flourishes & extra touches are there, but the backbone is wonderful taste sparing no expense in terrific ingredients. After all, where can you still get a whole sole Meunière, filleted & cleaned table-side. Or crepe suzettes flambeed before your eyes. Not that I mind creative cuisine, but it's always good to get back to the traditions that set the stage for everyone else. Le Surcouf is a West-Island gem that can compete with the best of downtown, & in a gorgeous setting. I needed smelling salts when I saw the bill, but it was worth it!

Superbe expérience pour ma première fois. Le service est impeccable. Le menu est assez varié sans être trop chargé. Un beau menu de cocktails. À y retourner!!
Location just by the water, with beautiful artwork & a cozy vibe. Service was excellent & menu & specials gave lots of variety & exciting things to look forward to for future visits!
When we get a chance to go out to dinner, Le Surcouf is our go-to in the West Island. The food is consistently outstanding, the team there is always pleasant, & the layout makes every section feel calm & intimate. We always leave satisfied.

En plus de l'excellence du repas, ce qui impressionne surtout, c'est le souci des details dans la presentation des plats & le service hyper attentionne dans un environnement extremement agreable. Nous recommandons ce resto tres chaleureusement.
We really enjoyed our visit to Le Surcouf on Saturday, March 1st.
We started our culinary experience with complimentary zucchini quiche, followed by creamed mushroom soup (soup of the day), fois gras & lobster bisque. After which we had an apple sorbet to cleanse our palates. Main course consisted of rack of lamb & Flambéed pepper filet mignon. Desserts included:
Baba au Rhum, Crème Brûlée & Vanilla profiteroles in chocolate sauce. Wine list was varied & chose Massimago Mariabella 2022 (Valpolicella Ripasso).
Ambiance was cozy & welcoming. Lighting was soft & inviting.
Highlight of decor was the promotion of local artists' work. Extra promotion of local artist work, on labels of house wines.
The restaurant was a bit expensive, but its excellent service was worth the price.
We would add a light background music to enhance the ambiance.
Well worth the visit. & we will definitely return!

Went with friends to celebrate our birthdays & Le Surcouf made it very special. The food was excellent, service top notch & atmosphere very cozy with the fireplace, especially on a cold Montreal night! We highly recommend Le Surcouf & shall be back!
Excellente cuisine francaise, en particulier le foie gras & la cuisson de la viande rouge (boeuf, veau). Service au table très amical, ambiance chaleureuse. Belle sélection de vin.
Another wonderful evening at Le Surcouf. The bistro menu offering during the week is fantastic. Allows for an upscale dinning treat during the week at a great price. We got a nice table near the fireplace. The service was very nice. The meal delicious. My wife had trout & I had a shepherd's pie with a twist. Made with pulled pork & sweet potatoes. Been numerous times & never have been disappointed. Our favorite go-to restaurant.
We parked in back & were greeted amazingly by the kitchen people welcoming us in through kitchen to hostess lobby (kichen was immaculate!) where we were greeted again by hostess who promptly & warmly greeted us as well before turning us over to Stephane who seated us at the best table in the place & took care of us for the rest of the night along with the rest of the waitresses who were amazing (sorry didn't catch their names🥴)!!
Along with the delectable food, we were pleasantly presented with apple sorbet between entrees & main meal to clear pallets as well as profiteroles after our desserts as an extra treat!
Absolutely wonderful evening from beginning to end & can't wait to do it again! Thank you!!!
