Le Speakeasy offers a unique and memorable dining experience defined by its immersive, secret-club atmosphere, creative decor, and flavorful French-inspired cuisine. Guests frequently praise the high quality of the dishes, particularly the gnocchi, duck, and various seafood options, as well as the inventive cocktail menu. While the service is often highlighted as outstanding, attentive, and knowledgeable, a few visitors have noted occasional inconsistencies in service speed or attentiveness. Despite being located in a historical setting that can be noisy or present mobility challenges due to stairs, the restaurant remains a highly recommended destination for those seeking an intimate and fun environment in Old Montreal.
We had the best time at Le Speakeasy! We booked a surprise 60th birthday dinner & the staff really made it feel special. Kevin was our waiter for the evening & was kind, attentive, & knowledgeable - I would recommend this location to anyone looking for a great meal & cool atmosphere in Old Montreal!
Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. The food was some of the best I've had in a long time, & the service made it even better. Kevin behind the bar was fantastic - friendly, attentive, & made incredible drinks. Mateo was equally amazing as our host/server & made us feel welcomed the entire night. You can tell the staff genuinely cares about giving people a great experience. This place deserves way more recognition & popularity than it gets. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for outstanding food, drinks, & service.
Pretty great restaurant! Staff was really friendly & attentive! I appreciated that the drinks were a bit strong, & the food was well seasoned! Especially the mushroom dish which was a 100/10!

Food was delicious & staff was very attentive to our needs of a group of 9! The ratatouille was the star of the show, perfect spot for a girls night out!
We visited Vandale Speakeasy & were really impressed by the food - everything we ordered was delicious, well-prepared, & beautifully presented. Unfortunately, the service didn't quite match the quality of the kitchen. Our share plates arrived before our tasting plates & utensils, which made things a bit awkward. Our food even showed up before our drinks, despite the bar being fairly empty (we were told the bartender was backed up). Water glasses went unfilled all night, & there were long waits between each of the three courses.
What stood out most, however, was the nonchalant attitude of both our server & the bartender. There didn't seem to be much urgency or attentiveness, which dampened what could have been an otherwise fantastic dining experience. Honestly, it makes sense the place was empty on a Friday night.
The food alone makes Vandale worth a visit, but we hope the service catches up to the level of the kitchen.
The food is a bit underwhelming but for the price of 25$ for 3 course it's acceptable! Our server wasn't very attentive however the atmosphere is lovely
Overall, our night for 2 was amazing. We went on Friday April 11th from 7pm to 9h30.
Excellent: service was truly amazing (she was funny, kind, attentive), ambiance & vibes were immaculate, our gravlax entrée left us speechless, good portions for tapas style, the matcha crème brûlée wow!, cocktails are expensive (?20$) but definitely worth it, & 3 course for 25$ was a steal. Focaccia was amazing too.
Good: the main dishes lacked a little flavour… the pasta was good, but nothing that can't be whipped up at home under 30 mins.
To be improved: our main dishes took quite a long time to arrive, but understandable as it was busy & the server made sure to check up often.
Disappointed: we were left disappointed by the Asian short ribs that really lacked flavour & sauce. Mainly we were disappointed because the rice was quite undercooked.
But we left this place happy, we ate well, had great cocktails, & for 150$ in total it was worth it (tip & taxes incl.) for 2x 3 courses, 2 cocktails & a beer, foccacia & saucission extra (great portion). We'll come back :)
Very well located & very friendly & attentive staff (barman & host/server). I went for 5@7 on a Thursday & tried their $1 oysters & tuna tataki for food. The tuna tataki had a gorgeous presentation, very esthetic & full of texture & flavour too. I do recomemend this place 👍🏻
Went here for a girls dinner for a 5à7 on a Thursday. Wednesday's & Thursdays from 5PM-8PM they have $1 oysters & drinks have special pricing. The oysters were okay but the rest was phenomenal! We took the table d'hôte $25 & both beef options were to die for! The pasta was also very good. The staff were also very attentive & kind. Honestly for the price - 100% worth it.
Another wonderful dinning experience! Antoine was a most gracious host & very attentive! The food was beyond our expectations! Thanks again can't wait to come back!
