I came here on a double date & the atmosphere was lovely (great lighting, fun music, & I loved the zebra print chairs haha). The staff was some of the best I've ever seen: incredibly attentive & friendly. & don't let me forget the most important part! The food was absolutely delicious! So well spiced & super flavorful. I love Ethiopian food, I would absolutely come again. Highly recommend for any future date nights you may have planned, or friends! Great for groups because the food is easy to share.View more

Service was good (for instance offered wet towel to clean hands before the meal, & wi-fi credential, even without me asking for it). I ordered the vegan two courses tasting menu for one person, as I know nothing about Ethiopian food. The size of everything was indeed for tasting, however in light of the relatively high price ($35), I was expected more. Most of the items were not that spicy (good for me). There was only one really too spicy to my taste - not sure what it was (color was dark brown). It was interesting experience, but personally I'll likely keep it as one time experience. They are not take-away friendly (I tried). The place is not too large' the mirrors make it seem to look larger. It was busy, though. It worthwhile mentioning that the google entry is outdated: - there is no Israeli cuscus on the menu.View more

This was my second time going there with my daughter & we get first class service, I was impressed! The inside was Warm & cozy, Lovely decor, Very classy & romantic. The food was AMAZING!!! & still the same, still great, The hummus was different than others I've tried, also the injera was so so delicious, everything we ordered was delicious. The staff were very friendly & helpful making recommendations. The Bathrooms are very interesting too. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting or living in Montreal who want to try something new! It is the best Ethiopian food we have ever had We will return. Five out of five. Well done! I read the reviews & people complaint that the service is slow ,it was quick for me & I am satisfied.View more

My friends & I had a great dinner at Nil Bleu. As it was our first times trying Ethiopian food, the waiters were helpful in telling us about the dishes & portion sizes.
As a group of 4 we got the vegetarian sampler for 2, & then ordered two additional meat dishes off the menu. It was more than enough food for us all as there was even some leftover.
I would highly recommend them for their food, & service. Great flavours to their dishes.View more

The food is fantastic. We had Kitfo (my favorite) & Lamb with Berbere spices. The ambiance is wonderful & the staff is very attentive to your needs.
The best Ethiopian restaurant we have ever been to (we have been to many, & always come back to here......)

Really nice food (be ready to eat with your hands); priced right. I generally have the sharing platter, & either wine (well-priced) or one of their lovely cocktails (many have a special ingredient) however a nice beer also fits, or some Ethiopian tea. Relaxing atmosphere, & relaxed environment - with attentive service. Some dishes are spicier than others - not a problem for most, however if it is a concern do be sure to inquire.

The food was great: it was presented beautifully & in large portions! Some of the best Ethiopian food in Mtl for sure.

Service: much better than what I'd expected, but there was a bit of chaos! There was a long wait btw our starters & main course with nobody showing up to ask if we were done! Someone from our party asked about wifi & they said they had it but never came back to provide the details...

Otherwise we had a lovely time there. Highly recommend the tasting menu!

Disappointing experience...
First, I would like to mention that the food was excellent & our first Ethiopian dining experience was very interesting, even for our two daughters aged 4 & 8. We ordered the vegetarian & meat "tasting" plates.
The big problem : after two hours we literally got kicked out!! The waiter approached us after we had finished the main course telling us that the service was 2 hours & we would have to leave in the next 5 minutes.. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!
We were 6 adults & 2 children & we were all shocked.
The service was long, which is why we had already been seated for two hours.
In short, the food is interesting, but for the service & good manners, don't expect much! Let's say that it is not a $300 well spent..

We have been to Blue Nile a few times over the years, whenever we are in Montreal. The food is always absolutely delicious, the service rapid. Delicious traditional Ethiopian food - love it!! We'll be back again.

Such a great place ! I found it by chatting with an ethiopian taxi driver in Montreal. Very authentic cuisine, but not as spicy as the original, which would be unbearable for an occidental palate.

The service was great as was the food; this was our first experience with Ethiopian cuisine & we very much enjoyed all of the dishes that we tried. I would say that the one drawback is the temperature in the restaurant. It's a hot time of year & we didn't feel any AC or fans while we were there, which made things uncomfortable & less enjoyable.

We certainly enjoyed our meal (see below for details), but we have also had the good luck of being able to enjoy excellent Ethiopian food in various other cities (e.g., Dakar, Washington, DC, Atlanta) & have to say that, while the food at Le nil bleu in Montreal was flavorful, it was bland by comparison. Maybe Le nil bleu thinks that it needs to tone down the flavors (&, especially, the heat) for the local clientele. For anybody who is new to Ethiopian cuisine, Le nil bleu offers a reasonable introduction. For us, not needing any such introduction, eating at Le nil bleu whetted our appetite, leaving us hungry for something more authentic. We wouldn't mind eating at Le nil bleu again, but we'll be checking out its competition first.

We had the vegetarian fixed-price menu for two people. The appetizer platter had three items (rather than four as advertised). Our favorite for the entire meal was the yeberdjane (eggplant puree topped with another puree involving a lot of garlic). The yetimatim (tomato) salad & carmelized vegetables were good, if less impressive. The main platter consisted of gommen (spinach), yekik alicha (split peas), yemesser watt (lentils), zucchini sire (zucchini & – a few - beets), & yatakelt watt (carrots, cabbage, & - a little - potato), with a kale salad in the middle. Of these dishes, we agreed that the gommen was the best, followed by the yekik alicha & yemesser watt. The zucchini, presented as somewhat spicey, tasted a little of curry but was very mild. In fact, none of the dishes were spicey in the sense of being hot. The kale salad felt out of place &, while innocuous, didn't add much. The quantity of food was just right for the two of us. In particular, there was enough injera; we didn't need to ask for any extra rolls.

My daughter had the hibiscus ginger drink. She really enjoyed it, despite the fact that it was unexpectedly fizzy & she doesn't like fizzy drinks in general. The flavor of ginger was somewhat stronger than that of hibiscus. My glass of red wine (Vega Tolosa nature) was fine if unexceptional. I was surprised not to see Ethiopian honey wine on the menu.

We chose to eat on the terrace & thus to enjoy a beautiful summer evening. A bus & a couple of garbage trucks reminded us that we were next to the street, but it was otherwise easy to ignore the street noise, at least on a Saturday evening in late June. On the other hand, our table was somewhat wobbly; looking around us, however, the others seemed more stable. Inside, the restaurant has rather low lighting; this could be an issue for anybody with low vision, especially when going downstairs to use the toilets. I noticed some large paintings or prints with generic African scenes (i.e., not particularly Ethiopian) & the zebra-print upholstered chairs.

This is a fantastic restaurant. The service was fantastic, friendly & prompt. The food could not have been better. We've had Ethiopian in NYC & other places & this is easily on the list of best places. The spices, flavors & bread are great. Servings are very generous. We had way too much food, in fact. We ordered the tasting menu of meat & veggies for 3 people & the vegan platter for 1 person (which is such a great option, usually tasting menus have to be for a whole table, this allowed us so much freedom) - & we could not finish it all. We didn't have room for dessert. The wine menu is good, not great & the house cocktails tend to be based in fresh juices so they are sweet. & when they say spicy, it actually is - which is so great, usually restaurants warn, but it's kinda not spicy. The diversity of flavors was so fantastic I wish I could have eaten here all day. Eat here, go here, enjoy your evening. Oh, & the serving staff is so nice!

I really liked the ambiance of the restaurant, the music, lightning & workers was nice. Really clean also. I'm putting two stars out of 5 due to really high prices & really small portions. I ordered a vegan serving for two including an entree to share for two & everything was so small... Note: the vegan option was not more expansive than the meat option. It was delicious though & really pretty to look at to take photos but it was a scam. Ended with a 87$ receipt & not even a half stomach full. We finished going somewhere else after to be able to feel satisfied. Queen Shaba on avenue du Parc in Montreal do way better than Le Nil bleu. Bigger portions & more decent prices. Even the alcohol was more expensive than most places I went in Montreal for Ethiopian foods.

Even the wait to finally be able to eat took 35 to 40 minutes at least. Really slow service.

I'll never go back at Le Nil bleu ever again.

Smaller portion than competitors for a higher price. Not a fan of the filet mignon & the lentils which had too much black peppers for me (lentils are usually my favourite dish at Ethiopian restaurants). Everything else was great, especially the Doro Wat, the mousse & the eggplants.

Delicious food. Excellent service & ambiance. I brought my husband here to celebrate his birthday as we both enjoy Ethiopian food. What was also great was seeing so many people from different places enjoying themselves as well. It was a lovely time.

We first discovered Le Nil Bleu when staying at the Kutama Hotel ( which we also recommend). We had never tasted Ethiopian food before & it was love at first bite! This trip we were in Montreal for 2 nights & it was our dinner choice for the first evening.
Food is exotic & very flavourful. Service is friendly with just the right amount of attentiveness.
We highly recommend Le Nil Bleu!!
