Since it opened in 1931, the Centre Eaton de Montréal’s iconic 9th floor restaurant has been known by Montrealers as “le neuvième”.
With La Grande Salle’s high ceiling and elegant architectural lines, Le 9e was among the first Art Deco interiors in the Province of Quebec, and is classified as a historic monument by the Ministry of Culture.
Lying dormant for twenty four years, Le 9e’s reopening in 2024 honours the past and embraces the future.

It's an exquisite building! We also attended a Fever Candlelight event in the grand salon. A beautiful evening spent with my parents.
We hosted a corporate holiday event here & it was phenominal. From the decorations to the food, everything was amazing. Staff was super friendly as well.
We had a small 15 person corporate event in the Salon d'Agent right off the main dining room. The space was perfect for our group with a massive window looking out over the main dining room & subsequently outside, while also having direct access to the grand ballroom.
This art deco space was beautifully done & evoked a time gone by. We had the family style meal, which came with 4 appetizers & 3 entries plus dessert. All of it was fabulous, flavourful & everyone enjoyed it. The service was spot on & we never waited for anything, but also didn't feel rushed (we stayed for almost 4hrs). Also, the organization & planning for it was handled professionally by Angelique.
I came for lunch with my client. It's beautiful place for meeting & event. The food is delicious & tasty with well decoration. Wonderful experience in here
Unique space in the heart of downtown Montreal. Whether enjoying a delicious meal in the restaurant, grabbing a drink at the French Line bar area, or enjoying an event in the Grande Salle, Le 9e is an experience not to be missed.
This restaurant, seems to be aimed at hosting events. The biggest issue for casual outing is that although the menu is sophisticated, the execution was below what can be expected at this price point. In other words, better & cheaper food can be had in many other places in the city.
I enjoyed my evening here. I had heard about the 9th floor restaurant since I moved to Montreal 20 years ago. Eating here was a definite bucket list event. I'm not exactly sure how everything works, but unfortunately, the restaurant doesn't seem to be located in that huge, tall room we have all seen black & white photos of. The space was fine & had a nice view though. The food was all well prepared & tasty although we all thought the menu was a little boring. The star of the show was the service. For me, the service was absolutely perfect. We were kind of hard on service to begin with. Our original reservation made months ago was for ten. People canceled in 1's & 2's over time & we showed up as a party of four. Since they were booked solid we ended up at a large table next to the kitchen door. Not ideal, but 100% our fault. Our server was fun, knowledgeable & was always nearby without pestering us with American style "how's everything tasting here?" check-ins every 5 minutes. Honestly, I think I would have given this place 5 stars even if the food wasn't as good, just based on the service. The noise level was comfortable & we were easily able to hold a conversation at the table (so rare in Montreal!). I thought the price was reasonable. Not necessarily a bargain but certainly worth every penny.
Absolutely breathtaking! This icon from Montreal history has come back like a Fenix. The decor is incredible, art deco like in the days. A must do! I was there for a special private event for the second time. I can't wait to try the public restaurant.
WOW!!! From the moment you enter the lobby you will be impressed with the beautiful art deco theme. The restaurant is beautiful, the service & food are great. Don't forget to check out the event space before you leave, it's gorgeous.
Absolutely perfect evening. This was one of the things I did not want to miss on my trip to Montréal. I had read articles about the restoration, & a friend with excellent taste had said it was one of her favourites, so I was excited to be able to try it for myself on my final evening in the city. I made a reservation for one & was seated at the bar (this seems to be the norm for solo diners as the bar had several places set). While this sometimes means the service isn't going to be at the usual level, my experience was absolutely the opposite. I felt incredibly well taken care of the entire evening, & it was enjoyable to watch drinks being made & the oysters being prepared. Good restaurants should always recognize that a solo diner is often there specifically to appreciate the food & the service, & I felt this was the case at le 9e. From the moment I entered the elevator lobby on the main floor, every single staff member I encountered was friendly & welcoming. I was impressed by the service. My water glass was never empty, & when I accidentally dropped my phone when putting it away for my meal, it was immediately picked up & handed to me before I could even hop off my barstool. There was a slight hiccup in getting a wine list to order a glass with my meal, but it was quickly presented by the man I now realize was the operations manager who made some suggestions (also, he was on the floor the entire time & I saw him pitching in, which is a sign of someone who really cares about the service). Shortly after I was seated, the bartender took my order for a cocktail to begin. The cocktail menu features classics in keeping with the retro elegance of the restored restaurant, which adds to the charm, as well as some modern interpretations. Like the food (as I would experience) it was presented nicely but without a fuss, with a focus on the quality of the flavours not elaborate presentation. My meal was perfect. I started with the asparagus, which was beautifully done, ideal crispness & not overwhelmed by too much sauce. It is my favourite vegetable when it is in season, & I was pleased with the simple but appealing presentation. I followed that with the steak frites, which is accompanied by beurre Café de Paris. This is not often an option on menus at home in Alberta, so I was delighted to see it there. My request to have my steak saignant was met, & it was presented nicely sliced, again, simple but appealing. The fries were some of the best I've had, crisp exterior & very tender inside. There were masses of them so I couldn't finish, although I was tempted to try. I finished with a white chocolate dessert, which was perhaps the least exciting part of the meal. It was enjoyable but not spectacular, & the raspberry coulis in the middle was not distributed well, so it was only at the very center of the dome that I finally got some, & then it was overpowering the white chocolate. This is probably just an assembly issue, but it affected the balance of the dessert. I was also not expecting a cake (cookie?) base inside. I think this item could be improved, perhaps as a panna cotta with raspberry & lemon. It wasn't bad, per se, but it didn't meet the level of the rest of the meal, so it was a bit of a low note to end on. I followed this with an espresso, which was balanced & well made. The ambiance is enjoyable, with an elegant restoration that honours the art deco style of this historic venue without being campy (a difficult balance). It is not the quietest place, partly because there are so many hard surfaces, but it was not overwhelming. For a solo diner, a seat at the bar provides a perfect spot for people watching & to enjoy the energy of the evening dinner service. This sounds funny, but also don't miss the chance to see the bathrooms, which are also nicely renovated but keep the historic elements. Sadly, there was an event on in the old main dining room, so I couldn't take a look, but I'm hoping I can see that on my next visit.
First Candlelight event at this venue. Intimate, great acoustics. Nice to be back on 9th floor!
We hosted an event at this spectacular venue two weeks ago! The ambiance was gorgeous, the staff were incredibly helpful, ensuring that every detail of our event was taken care of, & the food was delicious. From setup to service, everything was top-notch. We'll definitely be returning for future events!
Super tasty super fun, amazing event space & dining area as well. Great view of downtown & a nice historical vibe.
Perched on the top floor, this restaurant offers a stunning backdrop for every meal. The beautifully restored space alone is worth the visit. However, the exquisite food, perfectly crafted cocktails, & the attention to service, are undoubtedly the main event. Not a detail missed.
Great space! They have done an amazing job renovating but preserving the heritage look & feel. What a great space to host an event. Thank you le 9iem team!
