Auberge Saint-Gabriel, North America's first inn and the country's first legal drinking establishment, was once home to the print shop that published the newspaper Le Patriote, and was even a fur-trading post before it became a highlight of Quebec's fine dining scene and a one of Montréal's hottest night spots. For 300 years, the Auberge has been a maker of memorable evenings, from cocktails on the patio and drinks at its intimate bars to meals in the opulent dining room and private events in its stunning halls.
Acquired in 1987 by the Bolay family, Auberge Saint-Gabriel has earned a sterling reputation. Its new owners, Marc Bolay, Garou and Guy Laliberté, turned it into a masterpiece, transforming this reminder of the past into a decidedly modern venue with playful nods to history. The Auberge was redesigned by Bruno Braën (Rufus Rockhead, Club Chasse et Pêche, Big in Japan), who had fun with the iconography associated with Quebec's history, honouring its heritage while remaining lighthearted. Born in Sweden, Ola Claesson starts his culinary career at a very young age. Born into a family of chef, his first love is cuisine, which he discovers through the exploration of flavors and rich traditions.
Ola leaves Sweden in 2005. After traveling the world to discover new flavors, he settles in Paris and works at world-renowned, Michelin-starred restaurants like Meurice and Le Pré Catelan. It is only during his time working at Spring Paris that he discovers his true passion for market cuisine and local products – a culinary philosophy that would stay with him forever and inspires him to this day.
Chef Claesson, after a few years in London, at the head of a private gastronomic restaurant, leaves Europe for the beautiful city of Montreal.

Excellent in every way. Steak perfect. All food excellent. Wine delicious. Great background music. Staff Friendly & efficient. Even the toilets are superb (that comment from my very fussy wife). One of the best places we have ever visited. Sylvia & Maurice from the UK
If there is one place to go in Montreal, go here. It has history but also an incredible atmosphere (world class). Their wine selection is renowned, but the beer & cocktails are great as well. Service is excellent. But what makes it truly special is the food. We are coming back as a group of friends in the fall or winter as the fireplaces are going & the roast the ducks, chickens, etc. In the dining room. V romantic, great for friends...just a definite place to go.

Je donne un 4.5 étoiles globalement. Le serveur était génial, la nourriture aussi était excellente. Petit bémol pour le service de valet qui nous a chargé 27$ (qu'il fallait payer en argent comptant pour aller parquer notre auto) sauf que l'auto.... Il l'a juste mis littéralement 1 m plus loin (& je pèse mes mots ça prenait 5 pas pour atteindre l'auto). 27$ seriously Pour des gens qui ont consommé pour 350$ de nourriture (& nous n'étions que 02).C'est un peu triste. P.S: la nourriture est excellente mais est vraiment très chère pour les portions du coup je me questionne sur l'efficacité du rapport quantité prix ...... Est-ce que j'ai aimé l'expérience culinaire ? Oui. Est-ce que j'y retournerais? Pas sûr....
The atmosphere was great! A very old building in old town Montreal. The menu was varied & the dishes we had were awesome. Try the stuffed eggplant. The calamari dish was awesome as well. Ask for Elysa, she was the best server. She made our dining experience even better. Highly recommend this restaurant!
J'avais commandé un gâteau d'anniversaire pour mon ami lors de la réservation, qu'ils ont oublié. Ils ont ensuite remplacé le gâteau par un autre dessert plus cher sur la carte qu'ils ont voulu me charger. La nourriture & le service ne valent pas le prix demandé.

Ambiance sympa mais les prix ne sont absolument pas en adéquation avec le contenu de l'assiette & du service... très cher & très peu copieux. Le service laisse également à désirer.. on ne nous a pas demandé la cuisson de la viande ni même notre choix pour la sauce, mon assiette chaude a été posée au milieux de la table & j'ai du la prendre moi même pour l'approcher au risque de me brûler ... vraiment très déçue, je ne le recommande pas du tout

Beau décor, belle ambiance. La fondue au fromage est excellente. Malheureusement, notre serveur a oublié 2 items que nous avons commander, nous avons dû nous servir notre vin toute la soirée, la plupart des plats & accompagnements manque cruellement d'assaisonnement, très fade. Vraiment trop dispendieux pour le résultat.
