We were visiting Montreal out of town & craving some good ol' South Indian comfort food. So we ordered from Lakshana's Chettinad South Indian Restaurant, expecting a flavour-packed dinner. What we got instead felt like a prank.
Let's start with the'Naan' - or should I say, pita in disguise. Imagine our faces when we opened the box & saw what looked like store-bought pita bread pretending to be naan. Nice try, but no, naan & pita are distant cousins at best, not identical twins.
The Paneer curry came next, looking promising... until we tasted it. It was sweet & bland, like someone dropped sugar into tomato soup & added paneer as an afterthought. We weren't sure if we were eating dinner or dessert.
The Channa curry was the only dish that somewhat showed up for work, edible, mildly decent, but still missing that warm, spicy aroma you'd expect. It was like the chef forgot to invite the spices to the party.
We really wanted to enjoy this meal, but the food just didn't hit the mark. If you're serious about Indian food, you might want to look elsewhere - or at least keep your naan expectations low!Voir plus
