Review Summary

Lafayette appears as a beloved neighborhood spot with large portions and straightforward, unpretentious dining. Reviews highlight generous servings of Greek favorites alongside diner staples like poutine and subs, with many praising comforting, homey flavors and approachable prices. The atmosphere is described as warm and friendly, led by attentive staff who make guests feel welcome, though a few experiences mention uneven service. The menu and pacing are easygoing, and the place is noted for delivering solid, tasty meals that draw people back for casual meals with friends or family in the Montreal Village area near Papineau.

The attendance is not bad, but we have been waiting for the dishes for a long time. the portions are large. French fries could have been made more delicious. for the North American public, this is a good place with a good portion size. the pizza is quite tasty.

Lafayette is a gem hidden in plain sight. If you ever trudged out of the Papineau metro station toward your end goal, you might ignore this quaint small place parked right across the station on Ste-Catherine street.

Unassuming, without any frills keeping & the straightforward dinner look of the early 80's, Lafayette is nothing to be wowed at in an era of overly decorated experience based restaurants where food almost comes second to what you are living in the buidling.

The atmosphere is brought by one of the warmest waitstaff found in the business. They feel proud of working there & will proudly guide you through the plethora of items found on the menu. Here, the food is king & the experience? Having the pleasure to eat it.

Don't be lured by the French name of a well know American revolutionary, the specialties here are all about the Greek food. Whether you are salivating over a Greek kebab or delicious calamari, they have you covered with more than generous portions for the price of entry paid.

Being 3 beers in, after a rather fun work party, I settled on a Quebec classic with a poutine with cut hot dogs. While they tout their Greek food might be amazing, their poutine is an immaculate & intricate symphony of taste that would rival legends found on the side of rural highways of the province. A gravy made from scratch with a distinct taste of cinnamon & vegetable. Here nothing is used from a can & everything is made the same day. This amazing sauce is coating perfectly fried red potato fries with fresh cheese curds. The result erased any potential hangovers that was lurching over me & left me cleaning a plate without even feeling bad about the insane caloric intake I might've taken.

It's not complicated to understand why Lafayette has been an institution to Le Village borough for 50 years, it's food & wait staff & straigforward atmosphere are a cut above the loud & overly elaborate restaurant culture that has become pervasive in the Montreal landscape.

Wheter you are hankering for a quick bite between destinations or want to curb your need for delicious foods, Lafayette is the place you need to stop at.

As a matter of perspective this place is a quintessential greasy-spoon. I love these types of places because they are heart & soul restaurants that do a little bit of everything. Pizza, souvlaki, hotdogs, pasta. Something for everyone in the family.

This is my go to place after a day at LaRonde. I avoid buying the overprice slop on site & just take the scenic 769 across the bridge into Montreal. My grandson loves it here & eagerly orders in French'deux hotdogs'... s'il vous plait''&... can I have iced tea', only if you can order it in French.'Jus d'orange, svp'

He scarves down his hotdogs steals my french fries & is ready for dessert!

I don't think I've ever had a bill over $30 there & we've always had such great service.

I first came here in 2018, & now again in 2024, had a great experience both times! The Club Lafayette was super tasty, very decent portion with lots of chips. You can also get coffee with refills for cheap. The vibes are very nice, classic diner feel, with friendly staff. Drop in if you're nearby & have the club Lafayette!

I love this place. I have been coming here regularly over the last year, & I really enjoy both the service & the food. You can't go wrong with classics like the French onion soup, super burger, or gyros. The ladies are always so friendly & charming, & they work so hard to make sure you are happy. The potatoes are truly top notch here in all form, be it French fries, or Greek potatoes, or anything else for that matter. Prices are reasonable too.

Not the worst nor the best restaurant in town. The place has nice booths, wheelchair accessible although The waitress sounded rude & cranky about assisting customers with a visual impairment. I understand she was the only one going around taking orders & serving but gees!! Not to mention there was a piece of paper in my plate of food, specifically in the tzatziki sauce. Other than that, the chicken brochette, fries, rice & salad were delicious!
