We are a restaurant located in a 150 years old historical building at the heart of Old Montreal, opened since 1980 we have been serving our loyal customers for many years now! Our Swiss Chef's specialize in Fine French Cuisine and Wild Game. If you are looking for the exotic flavors this is the right place!
La Sauvagine is described as a beloved family run restaurant in Old Montreal with a warm intimate ambiance and a menu that blends Portuguese and French classics. Dishes range from seafood to game, with items like calamari, oysters, escargot, duck and pate, along with a notable wine list and attentive service that many find welcoming and thoughtful. The staff is frequently praised for friendliness and hospitality, and the overall experience is described as memorable and cozy, suitable for romantic evenings or family gatherings. Some reviews mention occasional service gaps during busy periods and a vibe that feels touristy at times, but the quality of the food, the atmosphere, and the value keep visitors coming back.
Had dinner on a snowy Thursday, during a little hockey game, so the restaurant was not busy, but we had a window seat & a lovely time. We had excellent service from Anthony, truly professional, very attentive without being intrusive. Had some excellent oysters, followed by seared foie gras ( which we both prefer over a terrine or parfait ) & lamb, all well cooked. We also felt it was good value for money in old Montreal, our Sancerre was $62, & the foie gras at $25 was excellent value. The half rack of lamb was 4 bones for $36, also very good value. Anthony prepared proper Irish coffees tableside. A lovely night, thank you so much!
We had a fantastic experience at "La Sauvagine"! The ambiance was warm & inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal.
Our waiter, Anthony, provided excellent service-he was incredibly welcoming & attentive, making sure we had everything we needed . We arrived from the cold, & he thoughtfully turned the heater on for us, making us feel instantly comfortable.
The food was just as impressive. The French onion soup was hands down the best in the city-rich, flavourful, & perfectly balanced.
I also loved escargots, which was perfectly cooked, seasoned & presented.
The ingredients tasted fresh, & the portion sizes were just right. Every detail, from the warm hospitality to the delicious meal, made our visit memorable.
I highly recommend La Sauvagine to anyone looking for great food & a wonderful dining experience. Can't wait to return! We will definitely be back!

Best French Onion Soup I've ever had. An excellent flavorful broth that was smooth & onion forward- not overwhelming, paired with an equally balanced cheese with excellent portions of broth, cheese, & bread. Wish I lived close by! I would order it again & again.
Came here for my birthday last year & came again this year! Staff was very professional & friendly. Felt like home. Food was impeccable, I could eat their lamb all day
This restaurant is "fabulous" It is a family run business - Dad, Mom, sister & brother - The food was great - the atmosphere excellent The prices are in line with all restaurants in Montreal I have eaton in many restaurants being a flight attendant & they do an impressive job. Hope to go back!!!

We are visiting the city & after a long day of activity & wandering around we stumbled across this restaurant. The atmosphere was cozy & warm. The service was warmer. We immediately felt welcomed & "part of the family." From the bread to the main course the food was delicious. If you have the pleasure of being served by Anthony consider yourself lucky! He regaled us with stories from his past while we sipped wine & looked out at the street in Old Montreal. Would definitely visit again!
The food is average. I ordered scallop appetizer & main course of seafood rice. The portion is large but not really tasty. The service is just ok. A bit disappointed.
Le restaurant est bien situé au coeur du vieux Montréal. La terrasse est très agréable ! J'ai pris des noisettines de porc au vinaigre d'érable qui étaient très bonnes. Les tarifs sont raisonnables.
I couldn't tell you whether the service or the food was better: it was that good. My evening at La Sauvagine was top notch. I had three wonderful game medallions, each in their own sauce, & had a great French merlot with it. The creme brulee at the end was superb. All in all, a very enjoyable evening.
The people were very nice & attentive! We got the calamari & escargot tapas & loved them! I wish we got more. It's a nice place to enjoy the scenery & good food.
Such a great restaurant! The food was noteworthy, our waitor was so kind & attentive, & we sat outside in the summer so the atmosphere was fantasic with a perfect view of old port.
