Very disappointing overall. Unfortunately, the food did not taste fresh, & the quality fell well below what we expected, especially given the price.
The satay consisted of only three small pieces of chicken, which were tough, dry, & tasted stale. The yellow sauce accompanying it tasted artificial rather than freshly prepared. The hot & sour soup was acceptable, but the fried dumplings were also quite dry. We also ordered a dish with scallops that never came.
Our waiter noticed that we had ordered relatively little & had barely eaten our food, & kindly offered us a pork dish with deep-fried spinach. We appreciated the gesture & the service, but unfortunately, the dish itself did not improve our experience. The pork was overwhelmed by pepper & was far too spicy for our taste, while the sauce was excessively sweet & had an artificial quality.
More broadly, we were disappointed by the flavours & preparation throughout the meal. We were expecting authentic Sichuan cuisine with the complexity, depth, fragrance, & balance that characterize it, but that was not our experience here. Instead, many of the dishes had a similar overly sweet, processed taste, & several items seemed dry or not particularly fresh.
At close to $75 before tip, we did not feel that the quality or quantity justified the price. While the waiter was attentive & made an effort to address our dissatisfaction, the food itself was extremely disappointing. Based on this visit, we would not consider the cuisine authentically Chinese or Sichuan in either flavour or execution, & unfortunately, we regretted choosing this restaurant.
Lady on the phone was extremely rude & obnoxious, she shouldn't be the person representing this place. The food is great, but with her at the door, thats a bad idea.
The place doesnt look clean & the portion is so small & the food is average. & not sure the lady at the front is the owner but when asked if she can put some furtune cookies, the first sentence coming out of her was' but your order is so small we give 1 fortune cookies per 10$'...& then she realised my order was 90$...amd gave me 6 cookies...instead of 9 cookies. Never going back & she can keep all her fortune cookies.
BEST all you can eat in west island ! The peanut butter dumplings are unbeatable & shrimp toast is fantastic as well. No brainer you need to go here! :)
Great service! The waitress was amazing, she took much care of our large group, was attentive to our needs & quick. The food was good & fresh, especially the human dumplings. I wish all the food was as delicious!
Don't get me wrong, food was good, yet some not as much. The shrimps plates were disappointing (the sauce), the eggplant was too cooked, therefore mushy).
We were overall pleased with everything. & although it is all you can eat, most of us only had 2 plates & so 50$ plus tip is a bit much. Not knowing if they do, yet I'd prefer selecting 1 meal & pay less. I assume they might with their take out option.
The waiter convinced us to take the multiple trials plates. The food kept coming to the point that it was embarrassing. We were not permitted to take the leftovers home, I now know why. All the kitchen staff were being fed our leftovers including the waiter who recommended what to order. We haven't returned since, & it has been years. We will never go back to this embarrassing restaurant. Everybody we know have been told the story & we will never go here again. Too bad, but this restaurant does not deserve my patronage, we are lost customers for life. Shame on you la Perle & the staff. Very disrespectful, you loose. I have told so many people not to go to that restaurant! Shame on you!.
We went there for Mother's Day. It was a disaster.
We arrived at 4:30pm & the food (even the appetizers) didn't come at 6pm. When we asked the waitress, she told us the appetizers are coming (as if we should be happy with it). When we asked about the main dishes, she told us 30min more. ( 2h waiting time in total) When we were mad about it, the manager came & asked directly'do you want to cancel your order?' Without explaining anything.
So, lack of service, can't handle the crowd. It was not my best mother's day with 2 crying babies, 1 starving toddler in the table. Avoid going there for special occasions!
My husband made a reservation the Thursday before Mother's Day. We asked for 6 pm & they said how about 5:30 so we agreed. We arrive Mother's Day at 5:30 pm & they lost our reservation. The woman at the counter was very rude & was like wait outside. We don't know when we will be able to serve you. We left. I think they need a better system then loose pieces of paper. The food is always amazing but this left a very bad taste in our mouths.
I have eaten there many times I have to say it is the best food in its class however I had a horrible experience after making reservations in advance for Mother's Day when I showed up they did not have my name & the attitude was like it was my mistake there is no effort made to even apologize for the mix-up or to try to fix the problem. They need to get a modern system on computer, not their present paper with chicken scratch, that sends text message confirmations ;given what they charge for their food.
