I came here with friends for brunch & was sadly very disappointed with both the service & the food. We ordered one smoked turkey sandwich, two avocado toasts, coffee, & one pain au chocolat aux amandes.
The bread was good, but the rest was quite basic, you can definitely find much better value for money in Montréal.
My friend & I wanted to order the smoked turkey sandwich, which comes with cheddar cheese. Since we're not big fans of cheddar, we asked if it could be replaced with ricotta, especially since the sandwiches are made fresh & ricotta is already offered in other sandwiches on the menu. The person at the counter told us it wasn't possible & didn't offer any alternative. She wasn't accommodating at all, so we ended up ordering the sandwich without the cheddar.
Later, we ordered a pain au chocolat aux amandes. Usually, staff ask whether you'd like it heated or not, but we weren't asked. It was served cold & very dry, which wasn't what we expected.
Overall, it was a pretty disappointing experience. I hope these comments will be taken into consideration & that the service can be improved.
La nourriture était bien meilleure, il y a quelques années. Je sais pas si c'est un changement de gestion, mais avec l'ancien gérant, c'était un choix sûr. Maintenant, je vais tester d'autres commerces avant de revenir.
Visiting from Toronto. The Coconut Chia Pudding is out of this world good. Flat White with oat milk is 10/10. Also got the chocolate-almond croissant, looks great, best-seller, but haven't tried it yet. Cool little spot in an industrial area of Montreal, recommended.
J'étais à la Bête à pain G à son ouverture il y a quelques années & j'adorais l'endroit. Deux visites récentes ont été quelque peu décevantes. Les proportions du cortado sont inexactes; le lait trop abondant est nullement micromoussé. Le café, quoique satisfaisant a un profil noir fortement torréfié sans nuances. Une toast de pain multigrains prometteuse est en fait pâteuse, la mie ayant manqué de poussée.
Le service est tiède. On doit nous même aller chercher nos couverts & nos verres d'eau alors qu'on a déjà précédemment payé le pourboire lors de la commande.

Très mauvaise expérience! Menu déjeuner affiché, mais non disponible avant 9h, car les cuisines ouvrent à 9h (le resto à 7h). Musique'heavy metal' insupportable & serveuse peut motivée par son travail. Bref, ça part mal la journée!
Me & my friend went to this store on weekend & this is a place that we loved the coffee, but this time it was so disappointing, when we want to make ordered coffee We saw a non-friendly & not nice behaviour but we said maybe she didn't have a good day, & we seated & wait , but it was another girl that start cleaning the floor & carpet & lots of dust everywhere, my friend had cold & made her coughing because of dust, we ask her to stop doing that, but she said she was told to do, even we explained we are sensitive but she didn't care, I asked the cashier that I want to see manager but she said there is no manager , & I explained what happened, but nothing changed , & other tables were uncomfortable & the table beside us changed their table, & the others were unhappy, but it turned that she did cleaning the carpet in 3 round & like she was doing by purpose.
Service was average (the guy told us three times to leave before closure time). Also, it was cold in the place. They don't heat enough & we were not really comfortable from start to finish. However, the coffee & pastries were great.
Les viennoiseries & sandwichs sont bons, contrairement à l'accueil & au service qui sont tous 2 déplorables.
Lorsque vous y allez ne compter pas recevoir de sourire, ou une quelconque formule de politesse. Vous aurez plutôt l'impression de les déranger.

Les viennoiseries sont bonnes, mais le service très moyen.. Le sourire semble être une option que les employés ne connaissent pas. Dommage & vraiment malaisant!
EDIT 2026 : En 2022 j'avais mis 2 étoiles car les viennoiseries semblaient dater de la veille. & bien j'y suis retournée plusieurs fois & elles sont maintenant très bonnes & le service sympathique !
2022 : J'ai voulu tester une autre boulangerie, mon choix s'est porté sur la Bête à Pain qu'on m'avait recommandé, & bien j'ai été déçue par les viennoiseries. Vraiment.
