Review Summary

La Bête À Pain is widely recognized for its high-quality pastries, fresh bread, and delicious breakfast options, often highlighted as a standout destination in Griffintown. While many customers appreciate the cozy atmosphere and the taste of their signature items like avocado toast and croissants, there is a recurring inconsistency regarding the service. Numerous reviews point to long wait times, inefficient processes, and unfriendly interactions with staff, which frequently contrast with the positive culinary experiences. Although some visitors describe it as a perfect spot for a coffee break, others express frustration with declining service standards, temperature issues, and a lack of accommodating attitudes, suggesting that the experience can vary significantly depending on the timing and the team on duty.

Some servers were polite while others were a tad rude. French & English spoken throughout. Wonderful space with an amazing selection of baked goods. Everything we ordered was outstanding. I would recommend changing out the cashier ... She was not so welcoming

Products are good but the staff seems to be in a bad mood all the time. They do not offer to slide your bread

I don't understand good review of this place.. Almond Croissants were like from yesterday, not fresh, almost no almond but too much syrup ... Hot chocolate taste was good but so small & served cold.. Serving was very slow & staff was not nice.

We were so cold of whole 2 hours.. couldn't take off jacket. The location is also wired.. I don't understand of whole point of this place.

I was really looking forward to visiting after seeing so many positive reviews, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing.

The service was slow from the start. We specifically asked if our croissants could be warmed, but they came back burnt instead. The avocado toast was also underwhelming-the bread was cold, the avocado was cold, & it felt like very little care had gone into preparing it. My flat white had an unusual taste & wasn't what I'd expect from a bakery & café with such a strong reputation.

To add to the experience, we asked to dine in but were still served our drinks in disposable to-go cups, which made the experience feel impersonal, especially given the premium prices.

I don't mind paying higher prices when the quality & service justify them, but in this case neither did. There seems to be a disconnect between the reputation & the execution.

I hope management takes this feedback seriously. Small improvements-paying closer attention to food preparation, serving customers as requested, improving quality control on drinks, & being more attentive to the overall customer experience-could make a significant difference. I genuinely hope my visit was an exception, because the café has the potential to be much better.

Weird spot imo. They said croissants were sold out even tho there's quite literally a dozen of them i can see, & a cortado should not take more than 15 minutes to make lol.

& they're all just plainly rude. Wouldn't be surprised that this spot closes soon

Le service est médiocre, sans courtoisie & il y a toujours des mouches ce qui est fort désagréable.

I want to love this place. I used to go there all the time, but they removed their only vegan viennoiserie option, & you never quite feel welcome.
