Kyodai Izakaya delivers authentic Japanese pub dining with a warm, immersive atmosphere and a welcoming, energetic crowd. The menu spans ramen, curry, tempura, gyoza, takoyaki and sashimi, with crowd favorites like duck tataki, karaage and udon drawing frequent praise. Sake, cocktails and warm house sake complement the dishes, while the service is consistently friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The decor and vibe recall a traditional izakaya, making it a great option for groups, friends or a casual night out. Reservations are helpful on busy nights as the place can get lively, yet staff keep things moving smoothly. A few items may be smaller or pricier, but the overall quality, flavor and memorable experience leave guests eager to return.
Good looking Japanese pub & amazing service. As for the food, Kyodai Izakaya is a jack of all trades but master of none; it's good, just not great. Everything you eat here is done better elsewhere in more specialized restaurants.
The chicken skewers are ok, the ramen is decent but needs more meat (you only get a single slice of chashu pork) & the curry rice is good but I've had much better.
Nothing really stands out here, unfortunately. It's just serviceable.
The atmosphere here is so immersive & cool! Our server Eddie was so knowledgeable, personable, & kind! The food was so good & authentic too! We had the okonomiyaki, karagge, & unagi rice bowl. Cocktails looked so amazing & were so hard to choose from! Would definitely come back

The food was mid & the portions were a bit too small for the price, especially the tataki. I've had the eel rice & it was pretty bland, the green onions weren't fresh at all & the BBQ eel hadn't been seared, it was just unfrozen & reheated. The worst part was the table service though, our waitress kept bringing us plates we had not ordered & was even gaslighting us into thinking that we had in fact ordered them. After eating our meal, I wanted to order dessert but it took so long to get a waiter's attention & then even longer to get the plate that I had to leave before receiving it. At least they didn't charge me for it but this was honestly some of the worst table service I've ever experienced. I loved the decoration & the fact that they played a lot of City Pop in their playlist but that's about the best I could say about this place.
We were looking for Udon specifically & found this restaurant. The staff could not be more welcoming & friendly! The food was great (Udon soup, shrimp tempura & curry rice with pork). All very reasonably priced. They even offered some suggestions for places to visit while visiting Montreal. I would definitely go back!
Food is not good, we took the the eel with rice, salad in the plate was older then my 74 year old mom. Really dry pieces that we had to take out from the plate. Sashimi were so-so , but with such attention to the freshness of salad I was afraid to eat it.
We love izakayas & Japanese food.
This one has fun ambiance, friendly service & excellent seat/table spacing.
We particularly enjoyed the takoyaki (octopus filled dough balls), the Gohanmono (eel rice bowl), & the Katsu dishes (kind of like Japanese schnitzel) - both the regular & curry version (my partner thought his was not hot enough, temp-wise).
We had a great time… fun place for an enjoyable night out. I thought it was well/accurately priced.
Definitely want to return for the Gohanmono & maybe some more tempura for starters, & we have yet to try the korroke (mashed potato croquettes), & the karaage (fried chicken)…
Lots of variety on the menu! 👍
First, the waitresses were amazing! Very friendly & patient. Couldn't get my darn scanner to work & the girls were a big help. The food? Well, just perfect as far as I'm concerned. I know ramens, & the Tonkotsu ramen I had was ON POINT. I couldn't get enough of the broth. Chapeau au chef! My son had the beef tataki with rice on the side. Can you say'tender'! Simply melts in your mouth. & that sauce...Yeah, I had to try some. It was worth every penny spent. Loved it & will definitely go back. Spread the word, baby!

Very disappointed. I took the tonkatsu & it was a super thin slice of pork that got overcooked to dryness with thin fluffless breading. It had no flavors & the sauce was probably a commercial tonkatsu sauce or so basic it tasted like it. The slaw was drenched in excessive amount of not great mayo sauce. The service was barely acceptable nothing more. The best thing on the plate was the white rice & even then it was fine, nothing more. So disappointed, won't be back.
We ordered the yakitori (chicken skewers), karaage (fried chicken), & katsu curry rice.
The karaage was especially disappointing, the chicken was extremely hard, with tendons inside that made it difficult to eat. It broke apart oddly with the first bite, & not in a good way. The yakitori skewers were very tiny & lacked flavor; definitely not what I expected. As for the katsu curry, the sauce was very basic, & once again, the chicken was tough & overcooked.
Overall, the experience was underwhelming, especially considering the texture & quality of the chicken in every dish.
I'm only giving this restaurant 2 stars because the service was good. Otherwise, the food itself would have been a 1-star experience.
Went to kyodai Izakaya for the first time today, & what an amazing surprise!! We ate korokke, the curry katsu & a bowl of ramen. Everything was absolutely delicious! The korokke & Katsu were so wonderfully crispy, pork was juicy too! The rice was perfectly cooked & the ramen was simply delicious. The staff was friendly & polite & caring, always making sure we were fine without being abnoxious. We simply had a wonderful time.
What a great find! Food was delicious. We were a large group & they were so accommodating. Highlights of the evening was the duck tataki & the unagi rice bowl! We hadn't had eel this good since our trip to Japan! & they have actual dango! We will definitely be back! Thank you 💕
So good my husband got the eel fried rice & I got the curry so yummy! Just visiting from NS & you can't get food like this there next time we are back to Montreal we will definitely go again. The atmosphere is fantastic & the cocktails are yummy!
Kyodai Izakaya exceeded all my expectations with its impeccable service & mouthwatering dishes! A special shoutout to Eddy, who went above & beyond by accommodating us with a custom drink change. His attention to detail & warm hospitality truly stood out. The katsu chicken with curry rice was nothing short of divine. Every bite was pure ecstasy, perfectly cooked, & bursting with flavor. To top it off, they surprised me with a delightful green tea cake to celebrate my birthday, which was both thoughtful & utterly delicious. Kyodai Izakaya is a must-visit for anyone looking for exceptional Japanese cuisine paired with outstanding service. I'll definitely be back!
Great hangout spot with amazing vibes! The service is amazing, & the decor resembles the japanese izakaya alleys. The food is good & affordable, & the menu has a ton of variety so there's something for everyone. I recommend the engawa tataki, the kitsune udon, & the curry rice bowls. Disclaimer: my meal was comped, all opinions are my own.

Absolutely delighted with Kyodai Izakaya. What a fabulous & inventive meal. Worked our way through the appetizers & one of the mains, the Unagi on Rice, was beyond delicious. Highly recommend. Service was spectacular. Didn't even bother with the menu.Eddie was the perfect host & went with what he loved. He was right. Everything was simply grand.
Incredible food, & tremendously kind service. We will definitely return. Thank you! (Will not recommend the Ramens , strongly recommend the Curry rices)
Their Chicken Curry Rice & Tako Wasabi are absolute delights! The chicken curry is rich & flavorful, while the Tako Wasabi offers a refreshing kick. The scallops are ok A must-try for Japanese food lovers!
As mentioned before, I like to come here mainly for the alcohol. The best food would be their fried selections. It has fried chicken, shrimps, veges, etc. They also offer healthier food for those days where I came in hungry. Mostly known for their curry rice or their noodles. Although sometimes I feel quite stuffed, I never felt uncomfortable after pigging out unlike other places. It feels healthy I guess?
