Kyodai Izakaya delivers authentic Japanese pub dining with a warm, immersive atmosphere and a welcoming, energetic crowd. The menu spans ramen, curry, tempura, gyoza, takoyaki and sashimi, with crowd favorites like duck tataki, karaage and udon drawing frequent praise. Sake, cocktails and warm house sake complement the dishes, while the service is consistently friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The decor and vibe recall a traditional izakaya, making it a great option for groups, friends or a casual night out. Reservations are helpful on busy nights as the place can get lively, yet staff keep things moving smoothly. A few items may be smaller or pricier, but the overall quality, flavor and memorable experience leave guests eager to return.
We had a great experience at this Japanese restaurant. We were a group of five & the atmosphere was really nice. We enjoyed sake served in the traditional Japanese style, which made the experience feel even more authentic. We also ordered noodles & the classic curry, & everything was absolutely delicious.
The restaurant was quite busy, so service can take a little longer. Plan to spend at least two hours there. If you have another event afterward, make sure to schedule it at least three hours later so you can fully enjoy your meal without feeling rushed.
Aside from that, this place is a must-try. Highly recommended.

Good looking Japanese pub & amazing service. As for the food, Kyodai Izakaya is a jack of all trades but master of none; it's good, just not great. Everything you eat here is done better elsewhere in more specialized restaurants.
The chicken skewers are ok, the ramen is decent but needs more meat (you only get a single slice of chashu pork) & the curry rice is good but I've had much better.
Nothing really stands out here, unfortunately. It's just serviceable.
We were looking for Udon specifically & found this restaurant. The staff could not be more welcoming & friendly! The food was great (Udon soup, shrimp tempura & curry rice with pork). All very reasonably priced. They even offered some suggestions for places to visit while visiting Montreal. I would definitely go back!
Absolutely loved Kyodai Izakaya! The food was incredibly good - the fried tempura was light & crispy, the curry katsu was full of flavor, & the sashimi platter was chef's kiss! Their cocktails & mocktails were also so, so good. Our table was filled with endless delicious dishes, & everything was pure perfection. Amazing service & the sweetest hospitality, can't wait to go back!!!!
We love izakayas & Japanese food.
This one has fun ambiance, friendly service & excellent seat/table spacing.
We particularly enjoyed the takoyaki (octopus filled dough balls), the Gohanmono (eel rice bowl), & the Katsu dishes (kind of like Japanese schnitzel) - both the regular & curry version (my partner thought his was not hot enough, temp-wise).
We had a great time… fun place for an enjoyable night out. I thought it was well/accurately priced.
Definitely want to return for the Gohanmono & maybe some more tempura for starters, & we have yet to try the korroke (mashed potato croquettes), & the karaage (fried chicken)…
Lots of variety on the menu! 👍
The service was impeccable, food was fresh & served hot. My bf & I shared a curry to katsu that made us want more be we wanted to try their other dishs like their gyozas, takoyakis, yakitori, karaage, etc. They have a few varities for sake as well - we took the Momo Peach one! I'm really looking forward to going back & try their sashimis & okonomiyaki!
Food portions were small & expensive, but tasty (took the pork curry). Bathrooms were also small & uncomfortable. Only 1 stall per gender. The decor would be nice if I could see, the place is very dark. The staff made the lights dimmer when we came in.
J'y retournerai, encore & encore !
We ordered the yakitori (chicken skewers), karaage (fried chicken), & katsu curry rice.
The karaage was especially disappointing, the chicken was extremely hard, with tendons inside that made it difficult to eat. It broke apart oddly with the first bite, & not in a good way. The yakitori skewers were very tiny & lacked flavor; definitely not what I expected. As for the katsu curry, the sauce was very basic, & once again, the chicken was tough & overcooked.
Overall, the experience was underwhelming, especially considering the texture & quality of the chicken in every dish.
I'm only giving this restaurant 2 stars because the service was good. Otherwise, the food itself would have been a 1-star experience.
The server who took our ten top was super friendly & gave amazing service even though we came last minute. He suggested me to grab the shrimp tempura & it was very fresh with a refreshing sauce. Our table ordered a bunch curry dons. He's super knowledgeable about the GTA which was really funny & surprising & took good photos of us. The only small con is no potatoes in the curry & I kept biting into onion thinking it was potato. Honestly worth the 6 hour drive & the speeding ticket we got otw to MTL would go again!
The shrimp tempura was delicious, but that was the only menu item that I found to be excellent.
The Tako Wasabi was spicy, definitely cleared the sinuses with its strong wasabi flavor but I found it to be way too salty.
The Chicken Katsu was very disappointing. The chicken was somehow very dry & didn't taste like much, & the Japanese curry was mild as well.
The Angel's Tears cocktail was yummy. But it straight up just tasted like aloe vera juice with a dash of alcohol.
The cherry blossom decor in one part of the restaurant is beautiful.
Definitely bar-type lighting. I wouldn't recommend this place for a romantic dinner.
They didn't have physical menus available. Only QR code menus.
Went to kyodai Izakaya for the first time today, & what an amazing surprise!! We ate korokke, the curry katsu & a bowl of ramen. Everything was absolutely delicious! The korokke & Katsu were so wonderfully crispy, pork was juicy too! The rice was perfectly cooked & the ramen was simply delicious. The staff was friendly & polite & caring, always making sure we were fine without being abnoxious. We simply had a wonderful time.
