On s'est offert une véritable dégustation de cafés de spécialité dans ce microtorréfacteur artisanal.
En dégustant notre premier café, je pose des questions à notre barista sur l'achalandage.
« Les gens nous cherchent. Ils ne nous trouvent pas par hasard en passant devant. »
& c'est vrai. KOHI est un repère presque clandestin. Aucune vitrine sur rue, aucun attrait tapageur. On entre dans un stationnement anodin, on serpente entre des bâtiments commerciaux sans charme, convaincus un instant de s'être trompés d'endroit. Puis, soudain, cette petite porte de garage industrielle. À l'intérieur, un contraste saisissant : chaleur du bois, verdure, ambiance intime. On comprend immédiatement qu'on vient d'entrer dans un lieu façonné avec intention.
Stéphanie nous a guidés à travers plusieurs profils de torréfaction. Rien à voir avec les cafés standardisés d'épicerie. Ici, chaque tasse révèle des arômes précis, des notes aromatiques complexes, parfois difficiles à nommer pour des amateurs comme nous : fruits tropicaux, cacao, fleurs blanches, sucre brun… On sent le soin derrière chaque lot. Sur leur carte, les propriétaires décrivent chaque café avec une précision presque poétique, ce qui aide vraiment à cibler ce qui correspond à nos préférences.
Même leurs décafs surprennent : corps généreux, saveurs franches, aucune impression d'un café'amoindri'.
Je demande à Stéphanie ce qu'elle aimerait que les gens sachent davantage à propos de KOHI. Elle me parle de leur abonnement mensuel, un envoi de grains de spécialité fraîchement torréfiés, pensé comme une expérience sensorielle complète. Le propriétaire glisse même un code QR menant à l'une de ses compositions pour accompagner la dégustation. Une façon d'ajouter une dimension artistique à chaque tasse.

KOHI est bien plus qu'un micro-torréfacteur, c'est une véritable rencontre entre le café, le coeur & l'humain. Leur approche en relation directe avec des familles de producteurs à travers le monde se ressent dans chaque tasse. Des cafés cultivés avec respect, passion & authenticité.
La micro-torréfaction, toujours juste & maîtrisée, met en valeur des cafés bruns d'une grande finesse, provenant de multiples pays, terroirs & altitudes. Que ce soit en V60, Bodum, espresso, cafetière italienne ou café filtre, chaque grain révèle une richesse aromatique remarquable, digne d'une dégustation.
& que dire de l'accueil… chaleureux, sincère, à l'image de leur amour du café.
KOHI, qui signifie café en japonais, porte parfaitement son nom.
Pour les amoureux de cafés fins & de dégustation, c'est tout simplement l'endroit de référence. ☕
Nous y sommes alle? aujourd'hui pour nous choisir un nouveau cafe? & Ste?phanie a pris tous son temps pour donner d'excellents conseils. Elle nous a fait de?guster 4 espresso différents, elle a tres bien de?crit les différences entre chacun des espressos de?guste?. Elle connait vraiment les cafe?s qu'elle vend. Je recommande cette boutique.

I wish I didn't have to write this review, but unfortunately I've had too many mixed experiences to just say nothing.
KOHI has been my favourite for a long time now. I first tried their coffee in an advent calendar several years ago, & it was the best of the bunch. But… what it comes down to is this:
Sometimes you will get the best coffee you've ever had in your life. & sometimes, you will get the worst coffee you've ever had in your life.
It seems to be a coin toss. I buy the biggest bags of beans available, & it's so good that it keeps me coming back. But I've had coffee shipped poorly many times now, in which the bags have exploded open everywhere. That's not a huge failing, but the bigger problem is the taste.
I've tried pretty much everything KOHI has to offer. But if you find a bean you like, be aware that about 40% of the time, it will suddenly be the most rancid tasting coffee of your life. I don't know why this is. I've gotten replacements several times due to entire bags being way too sour & gross to use. This problem only seems to be getting worse, too; I recently purchased several bags & all of them are essentially undrinkable, regardless of my extraction method. It's really unfortunate, & at this point I'm just not comfortable reaching out anymore because I've had to so many times.
On that front, the customer service is generally great! So there's that. But… do be prepared to have to engage frequently.
Today is a sad day because I am officially retiring KOHI from my life. I don't think I'll ever find a coffee quite as great as this one ever again. The search has been very long. But the 50/50 shot of it being great or awful is too much for me to handle anymore.
Stopped by this café for the first time today. I want to say it's the best coffee I've had in the Laurentians - truthfully it's one of the best I've had. period. Well done. I also appreciate their no-waste initiative with the to-go cup being a consignment jar. Looking forward to going back.

Café délicieux. Plusieurs choix de moutures & d'infusions. Arrêtez de chialer que votre café Tim goute l'eau de vaisselle & allez encourager la qualité locale. Je vais certainement revenir essayer le nitro cold brew.
One of the best surprises of our trip! When we got to Kohi, Stephanie suggested we tried'giko hill', an extravagant coffee from Rwanda. One word: amazing. Even more so, probably one of the best coffees we have ever had (& we had quite a few!). Don't miss this!
