Afficher toutsoup(9) qualite(8) prix(8) thai(7) dishes(5) legume(5) sauce(5) recommande fortement(4) fried rice(4) pad thai(4) spring roll(4) beef(4)I have been to this restaurant several times before & after the change of the owner. The dishes I have ordered had always been hot & tasty. Restaurant itself is welcoming & has lot of place to seat. Whenever I go there, the tables are almost empty. Prices are reasonable & affordable. Kids are welcomed since they have few high chairs. I also ordered there twice for few big dishes for partys & all my guests liked their taste. Service is quick & chatting with the owner for my big orders are quick & easy. Since there is no many asian restaurant in Laval, Khmer Express is a convenient restaurant to go either to dine in, take out or order for partys. Only advice I would recommend to that place is to put some ambiance music to make it less calm, but overall, I would recommend that restaurant for people who wants to try asian dishes.
We've been going to Khmer Express for a few years & were very happy to see that they finally reopened.
They now take credit cards which is very convenient.
The staff is as usual very friendly.
However, since the change in owners, the taste on most dishes we used to order is not as good. The fried chicken pieces are smaller, use less batter, & less seasoning than before.
The fried rice had almost no seasoning.
The imperial rolls are now with chicken & the texture is mushy instead.
The ke tirv phnom penh is almost as good as before - but the soup lacks the distinct old school Khmer Express flavor.
& lastly the prices have gone up significantly since before the reopening; this combined with the less pleasing food makes us more reticent to come back as often as we did.
We're going to probably try it again in a few months once they get their footing; as they just reopened.
Little gem in Laval!! Kind staff, affordable prices & amazing food. You can't go wrong with the Loc Lac, fried rice, soups, spring rolls, chicken wings... Go try!
***Update since new owner***
Don't expect the same culinary experience. They are just not quite there yet. The fried vegetable spring is the same, the taro one is definitely less good than before. The 2 meat dishes I took, the meat is just very dry. Cut too small. The meats had some sauce before after coming off the grill. Now just under seasoned & dry. Also never got the lime sauce with the Lok Lak. Going with 4 stars because maybe with some time, they will get better...
10/10 would recommend. I've been several times & have always been pleased. The restaurant is clean, & the staff polite & efficient. The food is fresh & not overly seasoned....they let the food stand on its own merit! The portions are big & fair for the price. I recommend perhaps asking for take-out even if you plan to dine-in as the portions are large & they will charge you a small fee for takeout packaging. The Cha Loc Lac, Pad Thai, & beef soup are my go-to's snd they never disappoint. *****Edit: I've been twice since originally reviewing & I can say I will not be returning after the last time! The food is inconsistent in quality, flavour, & quantity. The shrimp pad Thai was overcooked including the noodles, the FIVE pieces of shrimp were bone dry & low-quality. For $17, a dish of mostly rice noodles should have more than five low-budget shrimp & you shouldn't have to Where's Waldo for the egg neither. There clearly is no passion for the food & it's evident after going several times as the dishes are hit or miss. Personally, they can miss me with that as I don't give my hard-earned money to establishments that don't appreciate my patronage, & don't seem to comprehend that in a business transaction the outcome needs to be satisfactory for both parties!*****
