Review Summary

Kanepicerie is widely regarded for its authentic and flavorful West African cuisine, with many customers praising dishes like the thiep bou yap, goat with rice, and beef samosas for their quality and seasoning. While the food is consistently described as delicious and well-prepared, the establishment operates primarily as a takeout counter in a small marketplace, meaning there is no seating available and wait times can sometimes be lengthy. Experiences with staff vary significantly, as some diners receive friendly and helpful service while others report instances of inattentiveness or abrupt communication, suggesting that calling ahead for pickups is the best approach to manage expectations.

This is a small marketplace that also serves food which makes it really authentic. The plantain & biscuits are very good. It's hard to judge the service as it's not a restaurant but there are few employees which makes a lot of things take time. The best is to call in advance if you don't you might have to wait a bit.
There are no seatings so everything has to be to go. It's worth a try if you're looking for some west African food but expect to call in advance & go there only for pickups.

goat with rice & plantain is a perfectly sized meal with flavourful, tender meat - would recommend!

From my experience, when you find a takeout place in a small market like this, it's usually super authentic & this was no exception. I went for the lamb plate. For the price it was decent value, could have been a couple more chunks of meat but wouldn't call the meat portion stingy either. The meat was very nicely seasoned & well-textured. Went very nice with the plantain & the rice. I tried the beignets too which are delicious & pretty cheap at 50 cents each. A little bit of salad would have completed the plate I feel. There is no seating here so no points for atmosphere. Service didn't really win me over either. I was waiting outside as the food was being made. I figured the girl would let me know once the food was ready. But instead she just left it on the counter & started using her phone until I came in to check on my own. It probably wasn't long but the polite thing to have done would have been to notify me. Other than that she was not particularly rude, just lacked care in her service.
