Review Summary

Kanepicerie feels like a small market that also serves food, delivering authentic West African flavors with plantain and biscuits that receive praise, and the dishes are generally delicious, well prepared, and not overly oily or spicy. The space has no seating and operates mainly for takeout, with limited staff that can make service slow; calling ahead is advised to avoid waiting. Goat with rice and plantain is flavorful with tender meat, the lamb plate offers decent value though portions could be larger, and beignets are cheap and tasty. Service varies from friendly and attentive to brisk or distracted, and some guests note lapses like food being left on the counter or not being notified when ready. Overall, Kanepicerie delivers solid, warming options for a quick West African fix and is best enjoyed as a takeout experience with reasonable prices and good flavors.

This is a small marketplace that also serves food which makes it really authentic. The plantain & biscuits are very good. It's hard to judge the service as it's not a restaurant but there are few employees which makes a lot of things take time. The best is to call in advance if you don't you might have to wait a bit.
There are no seatings so everything has to be to go. It's worth a try if you're looking for some west African food but expect to call in advance & go there only for pickups.

goat with rice & plantain is a perfectly sized meal with flavourful, tender meat - would recommend!

From my experience, when you find a takeout place in a small market like this, it's usually super authentic & this was no exception. I went for the lamb plate. For the price it was decent value, could have been a couple more chunks of meat but wouldn't call the meat portion stingy either. The meat was very nicely seasoned & well-textured. Went very nice with the plantain & the rice. I tried the beignets too which are delicious & pretty cheap at 50 cents each. A little bit of salad would have completed the plate I feel. There is no seating here so no points for atmosphere. Service didn't really win me over either. I was waiting outside as the food was being made. I figured the girl would let me know once the food was ready. But instead she just left it on the counter & started using her phone until I came in to check on my own. It probably wasn't long but the polite thing to have done would have been to notify me. Other than that she was not particularly rude, just lacked care in her service.
