Our friend recommended this place to us. He said the dishes reminded him of his grandmother's cooking.
Amazing discovery! The lady who served us was very friendly! The food was delicious!
We ordered two plov (rice with beef), two lagman (noodles with a little beef & veggies), two samsa with beef & two samsa with spinach. We also had a potato salad side dish (you stir in the dressing yourself).
Every dish was flavorful. We ended up with leftovers of the lagman noodles. It was even better tasting the next day! The noodles absorbed the juices. I would definitely have this dish again the next time & try some of their other dishes.
I really enjoyed discovering this place. The beef plov was delicious-the meat was tender, flavorful, & paired perfectly with the rice. The complimentary tea was also a nice touch.
The owners were very friendly & welcoming. We had a pleasant conversation about the cuisine & its origins. They explained that the menu is mainly inspired by Central Asian traditions, with influences from countries such as Uzbekistan & Tajikistan. It made the experience feel much more personal.
The prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes & quality. On my next visit, I'd like to try the samsa, pelmeni, & mant?, as they all looked excellent in the display.
If you enjoy discovering authentic homemade food from this region, Kalabak is definitely worth a visit.
The plov rice here was absolutely incredible, easily one of the best rice dishes I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, rich, comforting, & unforgettable.
The'Hareng sous manteau' salad was also excellent. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, & clearly made with care.
What made the experience even better was how welcoming & kind the staff were. You can really feel the warmth & passion behind this place.
On top of that, the prices are very affordable for the quality you get.
This place deserves much more attention. Highly recommended.
Absolutely amazing food! Everything we tried was full of flavor especially the Plov. The owners were really friendly & even gave us sample cakes, which was such a nice touch. Cozy atmosphere, affordable, & definitely worth the trip. I highly recommend!
I was looking for something to eat Sunday afternoon & decided to try Kalabok. Amazing food & very friendly staff! ?t's amazing to finally have Uzbek/ Tajik food in Montreal which is not only delicious but also very affordable & available. I had Plov & Somsa, & there are several other items on the menu to try, including Ukrainian dishes.
I will definitely be going back whenever I am in the area!
Rahmati kalon!
Absolutely delicious food, amazing service & so clean! Found this little gem on google maps & were pleasantly surprised at how close it was to us! The two ladies running it are doing a phenomenal job at cooking & serving authentic & flavourful Tajik & Ukraininian food. Every item we tried was bursting with flavour & nourishment & cooked from the heart! We had the spinach & feta samsa, Borscht soup (it was AMAZING!), Manty, Plov & Kazan Kebab & everything was so so yum! The meat just melted in the mouth & everything felt like a warm embrace after a hard day ❤? This place is definitely a keeper & I wish these two awesome ladies nothing but success! Definitely recommend 🌟
p.s. Read great reviews for their honey cake but it had run out when we went so definitely going to try that next time! p.p.s everything is Halal so yay! p.p.p.s it's a small place so consider that you might have to wait or do take-out/delivery.
The plov was absolutely delicious - tender chunks of meat, fluffy rice with lots of aromatic flavors given by onions, carrots garlic & cumin.
The borscht earthy beet flavor, a rich & savory broth, & a balance of sweet & sour notes i recommanded. Everything is made by two wonderful women who give their 100%
Delicious comfort food that feels like home - Kalabok is a gem!
We ordered a spread from Kalabok & everything was absolutely amazing. The plov was fragrant & perfectly cooked, with tender meat & sweet carrots. The manty were juicy with a soft, delicate dough - just like homemade. The samsa had a crispy golden crust & flavorful filling.
The salads were super fresh - the vinegret was bright & tangy, & the Olivier was creamy & full of flavor. Loved the savory pastries & those fried dough rolls - warm, soft, & nostalgic. We finished with a traditional dessert that was crunchy & lightly sweet - the perfect ending.
If you're craving real comfort food with a Slavic/Central Asian twist, Kalabok is the place to go. Can't wait to try more from their menu!
