Brought my son, were greeted warmly by the two lovely ladies who run the resto (& treat you like family in the best sense possible). If like us you appreciate & seek out an authentic setting & meals lovingly prepared, fresh, delicious, a cultural immersion, Kalabok is a must-visit. We were so full we had to bring home dessert, & also a cabbage pastry, warmed up in the oven that was so delicious we regretted not buying more. Thank you for a truly memorable evening!
Hands down the best meal I had in a long time. Everything was fresh & super tasty!
What a hidden gem! This place serves amazing homestyle slavic foods that taste the love from a grandma. Everything was super fresh & yummy! The small place has a takeout counter & 3 small tables. The place is run by 2 lovely ladies. Great hospitality!
The borscht soup definitely warms the soul on cold winter days. It has a good depth & fresh taste. The soup is packed with veggies with little bit of meat & beans. It was delicious! & the bread that comes with it was so good! A small garlic bread with a hint of sweetness. It has a sweet caramelized crust. I could eat that all day! The owner explained to me that they are baked freshly every morning in a limited amount to be served with the soup.
The other highlight was the honey cake. Moist, dense but it doesn't feel heavy at all. Little tangy with a beautiful taste of caramelized honey. They use local honey to make their cake. Heaven!
Can't wait to go back & to try more from their menu!
If you are looking for fresh food, you are at the right place . Portions are very generous & the ingredients are all natural. I will definitely be comming back with my friends!
This place is a gem, whether you're eating in or taking out! The food is not only incredibly tasty but also freshly prepared on-site with high-quality ingredients. What truly sets them apart is extremely comforting, almost homemade meals that throws you into'food nostalgia', I especially loved the Medovik cake. Not to mention, the owners (who are also the cooks) are amazing, making the whole experience a pleasure.
Super authentic & delicious. I had the borscht soup, it was decadent, filled with fresh vegetables fresh savory & sweet well balanced delicious soup. The pelmeni was perfectly crafted, filling was perfectly spiced & seasoned, the outer dumpling was thin thin chewy & soft at the same time.
I honestly can't believe a restaurant this delicious, with such fair prices! exists in Montreal. Every single dish tastes freshly prepared, authentic, & full of love. You can feel the care in the food & in the service. From the drinks to the main course to the dessert, everything was flawless. & the owners? Such warm, kindhearted people. It's rare to find a place that feels like home & deeply comforting. I'll absolutely be coming back & bringing everyone I know. The meat just melts in my mouth. The drinks not too sweet with hint of fresh fruit. Don't know how to better describe it. Try it!
Delicious food, amazing service, & extremely friendly people. Highly recommend their Samsa & Pelmeni, & don't forget to try their refreshing Compot drink. All their food is freshly handmade, even the dessert cakes.
Fresh, delicious food. Like home cooked meals. Gracious & welcoming hosts.
Very beautiful experience! This Russian style family restaurant in Montreal is really something special. We were four person & we shared many different dishes & desserts. Everything was fresh, warm, & so tasty, like homemade food from family kitchen. Portions are good & the flavors are rich & comforting.
Staff was very nice & friendly, always smiling & checking on us, but not pushing. They explained the menu with patience & made us feel welcome from first minute. The place is small & cozy with a family feeling. You sit & relax like at home, enjoying tea & dessert.
I highly recommend this restaurant for family & friends, epecially ones looking for halal food. We will come back for sure!
The food is absolutely delicious, fresh, homemade, & full of flavor. It honestly tastes like something you'd have at home, made with love. The two owners are incredibly kind & welcoming.I'm so glad I found this place, & I'll definitely be coming back! ☺?
Delicious comfort food that feels like home - Kalabok is a gem!
We ordered a spread from Kalabok & everything was absolutely amazing. The plov was fragrant & perfectly cooked, with tender meat & sweet carrots. The manty were juicy with a soft, delicate dough - just like homemade. The samsa had a crispy golden crust & flavorful filling.
The salads were super fresh - the vinegret was bright & tangy, & the Olivier was creamy & full of flavor. Loved the savory pastries & those fried dough rolls - warm, soft, & nostalgic. We finished with a traditional dessert that was crunchy & lightly sweet - the perfect ending.
If you're craving real comfort food with a Slavic/Central Asian twist, Kalabok is the place to go. Can't wait to try more from their menu!
